I've had two leaky radiators on mine, you could see water running out onto the floor, might be worth looking under the car to see if there's any signs of water dripping.

Having a pair of Hankook Ventus fitted to the front of my 170 Elegance 4x4 on Friday. The Hankooks that are on the front now have done 31k miles and are still legal. Not bad I reckon, I hope the new ones perform as well as that.

Another vote for Bosch wipers here!

I agree, don't believe everything you read about the V6 TDi. I had a Mk1 V6 TDi for 6 years and ~80k miles and I was sorry to part ex it for my Mk2 170 CR 4x4 TDi. The Mk1 with the V6 in my experience is a very nice car indeed, smooth, torquey and comfortable. The Mk1's suffer from a few design faults but they are easily attended to and don't relate to the V6 engine. The engine to avoid in a Mk1 is the 2.0 PD TDi. My V6 used to do a genuine 48 to 50 mpg on the motorway and at 70 to 80 mph the V6 was very smooth and quiet. I'd have no hesitation advising you to go for one, I still miss mine.

3.5 litres will have the engine under tray dripping with oil, that amount of oil will go a long, long way around an engine bay. If there's no sign of a leak there should be a fair bit of blue smoke from unburned oil from the exhaust. That much oil will likely kill off the DPF and the exhaust catalyst too. It'll also carbonise in the turbo, it really is bad news all round, IMHO.

I'd be more worried about the oil consumption, using 3.5 litres in a week is definitely not normal.

Last Friday, for the first time ever, the maxidot display showed more than 60mpg on my Superb (a 170bhp 4x4), 60.8 to be exact. But when I filled it up it was doing a true 47 to 48mpg. Still, not bad, but the elusive genuine 50mpg is yet to be achieved!

Myself, I think I'd prefer the Superb to be a hatch. The present arrangement just adds complexity and weight for no real purpose, IMO.

I notice the OP is in Sandbach. That makes Robert Eardley in Crewe his local dealer. I've used Eardleys for about the last 15 years or so since I first got a Skoda. They're a very good dealership and as a bonus the sales team are very laid back, you can safely enter the showroom without fear of thumb screws being forced on you to buy.

My 170 TDCR 4x4 uses about 1/3 of a Litre per 10k miles.

A useful review, I have a similar age 170 4x4 Elegance that's done 42k miles. Apart from 2x leaky radiators it has been fault free. By far the biggest cost of owning one of these cars is depreciation and you can't do anything about that.

Thanks, time will tell, I'm just a bit nervous that the car is out of warranty in six months time. As a matter of interest, do Skoda parts fitted by a Skoda dealer carry a seperate warranty?

Simply a leak from the bottom of the radiator where the radiator core ends in both cases. No sign of any external damage in either case. I put it down to poor manufacturing quality.

On my 170 CRTDi 4x4 I swapped from the original Contis to the Hankook Ventus at 22k miles. I've now done another 18k miles and am very happy with the Hankooks. I guess there's about another 10k miles left in the front tyres and more still on the rears. Very happy with them.

Six months ago I had a leaky radiator in my Superb, new radiator was fitted under warranty. Last week, the new radiator sprang a leak so I'm now on my third radiator! I'm concious that the car will be out of warranty in another six months time. Have I just been unlucky or is this a known weakness on the Superb MkII?
