  1. I was surprised to be handed a quart of engine oil at my routine service today. I was told it was for my weekly oil checks. I have had quite a few new cars but I have never before been told to do this. Are weekly checks necessary on cars that do only about 6000 miles a year?
  2. I have had a couple of letters from my agent telling me that my routine service is overdue. Not according to my car's read out, which says that a service is not due for another 3000 miles. I sent them an email pointing this out but their reply insisted their records showed a service was due, as they would if they were based on the time since my last service. Does my read out base its warning on elapsed time, or there a more sophisticated calculation, like oil usage or condition, for instance? I don't suppose it matters a damn but I am curious. Billhum
  3. I would not have bought my Superb Estate without the Hill Hold and the Park Assist. The latter is likely to be unused other than for demonstration but the front and rear sensors are a must for a car of this size. I would hate to park it without their help. Bill
  4. I am 81. I drove over 200 miles this morning in my new Estate. I cannot remember a drive which I have enjoyed more. This is my third Superb. I have had a succession of Mercedes and BMWs but I consider this car the best A few days ago I met another owner and stopped to chat as there are not too many around. . His said his last car was a Mercedes S class but he preferred his Skoda. That it was half the price did not seem relevant..
  5. You might like to know that Lidl have roof bars which fit the Superb Estate @ £27.00. I got a pair and they seem well made. Billhum
  6. It stays on indefinitely when the tailgate is closed and the car locked. I'm sure it is not meant to.
  7. This one is on the passenger side, near the tailgate. I have tried the switch in all positions when demounted and it switches off as it should. As soon as I put it in its mounting, it lights up and stays on, whatever the switch position.
  8. The handbook for my new Superb Estate says if I leave the tailgate open, the detachable LED flash light will go out after 10 minutes. It does not and actually stays on indefinitely, whether the gate is open or closed. Can anyone tell me how to switch it off when in its mounting? billhum
  9. Picked up my Superb Estate 170 DSG today. Extras: Hill Hold and Park Assist Cappochinno with Ivory leather. 66 days from order.
  10. I have always felt that buying a Skoda is mildly eccentric, like voting Lib Dem or sporting a beard. So finding that the dealers are a little strange should not be a surprise. When I bought my last Superb, three years ago, I phoned to complain about the various false delivery promises I had been given. The salesman embarked on his well used liturgy of reasons why the latest date had been missed. Someone was passing his desk and heard what he was saying to me. They interrupted him to say the car had been delivered the previous day and was in their workshop. I had an email from a different dealer two days ago to say my new car was awaiting shipment in Emden and would be available in a couple of weeks. I replied to thank them for their good service and relatively quick delivery. A salesman phoned yesterday and told me that he could not understand my mail as they had no delivery information but were working on it. When I told him of my mail, he immediately apologised and said he had not been told. None of the desks in these two dealers are more than five meters from each other. What sort of outfits are they? Don't their people speak to each other? I have bought lots of new cars but I have never run into this level of incompetence before.
  11. I heard yesterday that my car is built and waiting delivery, which is promised for mid month. That will be 60 days from order to delivery. Bill
  12. Superb Estate Elegance 170TDI DSG in Cappochinno and Ivory leather. Hill Hold and Park Assist. Ordered 16 Mar 12. Just been advised that car is awaiting shipment in Emden and delivery is promised in a couple of weeks. Seems pretty good service.
  13. I went over to the dealers today to sign the paperwork. On checking the delivery promise (June) I was told "It is very unlikely to be late" Bill
  14. My battle with a dealer is documented on Briskoda and it lasted a long time. I can't see how they can avoid the provisions of the Sale of Goods Act, either in your case or mine. But I met a barrage of abuse from my dealer. I don't know why he suddenly changed his mind but I like to think it was the adverse publicity it got from this site.; I know it was read because when I called his service "incompetent", he referred to it the next day.. And you should check your new car for the umbrella ,didn't I read somewhere that it is standard issue again? I found mine was missing after a few months but the dealer would not accept my claim. Needless to say my new car is from another dealer. Bill
  15. When I ordered my first Superb I asked the salesman if I needed a Hill Hold with DSG. He told me that it was integral, so I did not specify it. A few months later I found out the hard way as my car rolled back and almost hit a car behind me. There followed a long battle which only ended when I got a replacement new car. Bill
