In Topic: New headlight bulbs for my Fabia

11 December 2012 - 20:46

I looked on this link   http://www.autoexpre...ed-over-50-cent

The Philips was the top performer. At £20 they are not cheap, so just replaced the main dip and left the high beam as standard, because my main concern was to improve the quality of light from the bulbs that get most use in my part of suburban Britain. I believe that Bosch's Pure Light standard replacement H7s are also very good. They are around £12 each on Amazon.

H7 in both. I recently had Philips 12972-XVS2 H7 X-Treme Vision put in my new Fabia for the main dip lights and even the salesman commented on how much better they were than the originals. On Amazon in the UK they sell for around £20 a pair.

In Topic: Invalidate your warranty - for changing the light bulbs?

Success! I visited the garage again this morning and spoke the salesman. His original response was the same as last time - the warranty would be void if Philips bulbs were installed instead of oem bulbs, because that's what the service people were telling him - even though he personally was sympathetic to my request. I made the point that the only difference between the two bulbs was the price - oems would probably cost £1 on Amazon, whereas the Philips were £19.99 a pair from Amazon, and that's cheap for this type of bulb. Their specification was identical. To his credit, the salesman then went off and found a director to discuss it with. The director's view was the same as a number of your helpful comments on this forum - there is no warranty issue. So the bulbs will be installed as part of the car's preparation, with next Saturday afternoon booked for collection. Thank you all for your support in getting what I expected to be such a simple and sensible upgrade carried out.

In Topic: £1200 to replace ABS ECU

They can take down the CAN-Bus, so the ECU can't communicate with the dash insert.

This means the immo check fails and the car will stop after 3 seconds. When you unplug the ABS ECU the bus is back up so the car will start. The dash can't see the ABS unit so the light comes on

That is exactly what happened. Thank you for explaining it so succinctly. I'm now off to follow the link that you kindly sent me.

In Topic: Beadles Skoda - Maidstone..

I’ll update you about Beadles soon. I have used them to buy parts and found them to be fine. I then bought an Octavia from them last year and found the experience to be relatively painless. It was an 11 reg nearly new car but quickly developed a rattle around the passenger side front pillar. I reported it, they took it in quickly and gave me a courtesy car with only 15 miles on the clock to take me home while they fixed it. It has been fine and rattle-free since then.

I have an older Octavia, Mark 1, 53 reg, which has 117,000 on the clock, has been fully serviced since new and ultra reliable, until now. Two weeks ago I parked at the supermarket and it failed to start when I returned. My local independent has had it in for repair but can’t fix the electronics, so they are taking it on a transporter to Beadles to be looked at tomorrow. More in due course.
