  1. My 2001 ATD Fabia is defo a SMF Ive seen it when box was off
  2. Yes by-passed the troublesome plugs next to gearbox altogether, simply ran wire straight to ecu. Just remember disconnect battery and wait 15 minutes before unplugging ecu plugs I cannot remember which pin for DMF but it was easy to find the correct colour wire as I recall.
  3. Hi engine cranks but will not fire, Last TUES car jerky if throttle pressed to overtake (like a miss fire on a petrol engine) WED car would not start, after lots of cranking with key held on crank position it eventually fired but on two cylinders seriously banging and clanking let go of key and died instantly from then nothing zilch I got a guy I know to have a look he plugged his computer in and said no 3 injector fault shown but that was on the Tuesday when it was running on 4 pots but with just the stutter if throttle pressed hard how do you tell if injectors blocked Cheers col
  4. dont suppose you got any 100 130 injectors pls
  5. Yes it was parts and labour. Two young lads who know there stuff and have good reputation locally. I recall it was an extra £35 for MOT plus they replaced a broken rear spring (MOT fail). From memory total cost was £280 or £290 cannot be sure now... old age you know! Simplest thing is to give them a ring for a quote and take it from there.
  6. Hi all Car will not start. Struggling to get access to VCDs Just read on V Dub forum that a dodgy brake light switch can send a cut off signal to ECU, what does the ECU do in this regard: cut off fuel to head gallery via some sort of valve or does it stop sending impulse signals to the injectors, Also where does the ECU collect firing info from, is it the crankshaft sensor? furthermore, does the tandem pump continually feed the gallery or does it have a shut off valve that can recirculate derv back through filter to tank thus not filling head gallery. Thanks
  7. I have finally solved my NO battery light, Bought 2 yards of speaker wire, cut the two wires off alternator load plug spliced in speaker wires with terminal block ran one wire to ecu plug, again cutting original wire about 2 inches out of ecu plug and joining new wire into it. Then took off wipers and black plastic cover exposing the loom and wiper mechanism carefully peeled loom covering found blue wire and cut it about 2 inches from where loom disapears under wiper motor and spliced the other speaker wire into it wrapping with electricians tape and gaffer tape for good measure and bingo.. battery light working on dash for first time in 9 months.
  8. Hello Its a little way from you but you could always combine with a cinema or shopping trip to Centretainment / Murderhall and collect car afterwards. Adam charged me £200 all in last year for a waterpump and gates timing belt. 9. HI GUYS. Driving up A1 from Stanstead to Barnsley yesterday engine would shudder if throttle pushed quickly also poor acceleration like no turbo. Pulled into fuel station and in neutral engine was happy to rev to 4.5krpm (no load). So today checked if VNT accutater was free, it was (dont know if it works in normal operation though.) Took MAF senor off air filter body sprayed it with switch cleaner assembled everything and tried starting and the engine was jumping and shuddering all over the place next to no throttle response misfiring very badly possibly only two cylinders, after cranking, it would run for a second or two on 2 pots and then die. The wiring on this car has alway been problematic ABS TCS SPEEDO BATTERY LIGHT dont work. I have a S/H loom to fit but I dont want to waste 3 days fitting if cars starting issues are terminal (injectors eg). Another point to note is yesterday I noticed the outside temperature on the multifunction display was stuck on 4c* Any tips GREATLY APPRECIATED Thanks Col
  10. Mid life crisis... returned to the real world of points condensers and plugs - the good old days and bought a 1963 BOND MINICAR MK G 250 Villiers twin Estate. 2 stroke engine with reversible dynastart so 4 forward and 4 reverse gears! Long shot..if any ones got any bits for one buried in shed let me know
  11. I would never never use a high profile national company, remember Kwik Fit getting bad press a few years back, I use a small indy garage run by two young lads who know there onions. When my MOT was due last year it failed on a broken osr spring the tyres were just legal and the rear discs were thin they said. Had a cambelt (Gates) + water pump, spring fitted plus a new MOT for £230.00 all in with the tyres discs an advisory. I shudder to think what Halfords would have charged ... 3 or 4 times that amount ? I got new wellies two weeks after and fitted mint discs (£10) from local scrap yard.
  12. Hi I have a 1.9 combi with roof bars as standard the manuals state roof load across the range is 75kg which in old money is just under 12 stone. I want to move a sofa I have no idea how heavy it is Has anyone experience of exceeding the limits set
  13. I fixed mine with two new wires (cycle gear cables) and a couple of screw on nipples - soldered on for good measure and smothered oil and grease on cables and runners it was a bit of a faff but heyho but fix only cost me £5 all in
  14. Hi all I have the usual asr and abs eml's lit up, battery 40amp fuse blown tried changing 3 times it blows these within a minute of re-starting (I also have no batt light and have re run two alternator wires from alt direct to the loom under battery tray thus bypassing the troublesome connectors where wires snap and still no light on dash so issue either on alt or further up loom) but what is causing the 40 amp fuse to continuously blow?
