I too had the same problem. I so loved the 1.8tsi that I had from new. But was disappointed when the mk3 arrived without a 1.8 engine (in the UK). However, when the 1.8 went in for its 2nd service, I was given a 1.4tsi as a loan car for the day. It was a manual, my cars have been autos, but OK. From hitting the motorway I was blown away by the performance. I would say that it is as quick as a 2.0tdi, but quieter and silky smooth. At tickover you cannot hear the engine. So, take a 1.4tsi for a spin and I think you will not be disappointed. PS. Its also cheaper to tax and insure. Cheers.

Hello and welcome to the Skoda family. Hope you like your Octy as much as I like mine. Dunworkin

Hi HM, I too have a diesel Octavia which also takes it time to warm up. Previously owned diesel Polos are the same. I think its the very fuel efficient engines that use less fuel. Less fuel, less waste heat. -
Octavia II roof bars.

Nope, sorry I should have said a hatchback Octavia. Thanks. -
Could somebody with Skoda roof bars for the OctyII please measure the slot gap. I have bike bars from previous car which fitted similar style of roof bars. Hoping I only have to buy new roof bars. Thanks.

I have just taken delivery of a 2.0L TDI DSG Octavia (well, a couple of weeks ago) and this is my first post. I have to say, I have been blown away by the Octavia. I have done 2300 miles at about 50mpg, since delivery (20 miles on the clock), with most of the mileage long distance. Its the performance which impresses me the most, particularly the acceleration. I have one question to ask concerning the Skoda roof bars. I will be buying roof bars in the Spring for carrying 2 mountain bikes. I am hoping that my old bike carriers will fit the new roof bars. They are the T-slot type. So, my question is what is the slot gap size on the Skoda roof bars? Cheers, Dunworkin.
