  1. I should add that all the dash lights up as usual and I was getting relay clicks from under the bonnet, but the starter wasn't turning Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
  2. Would the 110amp fuse on top of the battery affect the operation of the starter motor? I believe it is for the alternator but I've just started having issues starting my 51 110 tdi. On first turn of the key the starter didn't turn over. Thought it was odd, tried again and it started fine. Stopped later and tried to start but again no starter. This time didn't restart. Called the breakdown people after 30 mins, and the another 10 mins later tried again and she restarted. Has since restarted fine but am worried. Thought I'd check and clean the battery terminals etc to see if there was a some issue and I found the terminal the 110 amp connects to was cracked and dirty. Looks like it had been arcing across as there is white residue on the fuse box casing. Either way I need a new 110 amp fuse (are these dealer only?) but would really like to find out if this is the cause if the starting issue and it's not the starter on its way out. Really need to trust the car will start so I can get to and from work. Any advice appreciated Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
  3. Sorry if I'm repeating previous questions but my searches came up a bit short. Basically I have a 51 reg ASV 110 Tdi with no service history(!) so don't know if it was on fixed or variable servicing. Last year I had picked up some of Halfords VW 504/507 oil when it was on offer and used it when the service indicator came on after 9k or so miles. (I have also learnt today that by reseting the indicator on the dash I will have switched it to fixed anyway). Fast forward another 9k miles and she wants another service, but do I need the posher 504/507 oil or would the 505 oil be fine? ECP seem to steer me towards the posher stuff and I know you get what you pay but I also like a bargain. Any advice greatly appreciated. Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
  4. Hi, I am considering buying a Octy TDI 110. I have been warned that the gearboxes are weak, is this true? Looking through this informative forum, it appears to be the SDI gearboxes which are more trouble. Is this right, or have I grabbed the wrong end of the stick? Also, if the TDI 'boxes are weak, then at what sort of age/mileage do they start to cause problems? I have my eye on a couple of cars, one is a 51 plate with approx 78k and another is an 02 with 56k. I really would like to avoid too many huge bills, as money is always tight (like me!)
