  1. I have an unusual problem with my electric boot lid (2010 Superb Elegance Estate): Boot opens fine using the handle above the licence plate in the lid Boot opens fine using the centre console button Boot opens fine from the key remote What I can't do is close the lid using the button on the bottom edge of the boot lid when the lid is at the highest position. I have tried manually closing the lid and have discovered that once it gets to about 2/3 closed I can then press the button to complete closing, this is very hit and miss so I normally close the lid manually which is much more of a faff than it would be on a car without this feature. I have tried to set a new opening height by pressing and holding the button for 3 seconds. Unfortunately this only works at a height where the boot isn't open enough to be useful; there is no response (audible confirmation). The car had this option already fitted when I bought it unfortunately. I believe the electronics can be programmed so that the centre button and console buttons also close the lid, (probably a real improvement!) but wondered if anyone has experienced this problem and knows of a fix?
  2. The headlamp (xenon) is working perfectly, so puzzling. Canbus gremlin?
  3. I'm having a similar problem. The light and a warning message first appeared about 4 weeks ago. The first message I got however referred to the side light. The bulb was not working, but after fiddling with the wires it came back on and has been on ever since. The message then changed to check the front right dipped beam, and appears a few seconds after turning on the ignition. This happens every time...puzzling!
  4. Does anyone know who manufactures the official bars? The key barrels are certainly the same as the Thule ones, but the profile doesn't match any in Thules range as far as I can see. The reason I ask is that I want to find out if I can buy new T section rubber strips. Thanks!
  5. An independent garage near me uses the machine that flushes the gearbox, but they quoted £100 for the use of the machine plus the oil, filters etc. I figured that I should be able to sell the tool on if that's what I decide, and feel that the ordinary technique does a good enough job(?)
  6. Many thanks for the reply. I decided to buy the tool although it can be done without. I bought it on eBay for just under £80: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400629093550?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I will give to my garage for the job. It saves me the aggro of taking the car elsewhere, as the car is due a service and MOT and I trust them having used them for the last few years. I will then probably sell it on again unless I can persuade them to buy it from me!
  7. I have my 2.0 Tdi Elegance estate booked in for a service at my trusted local independent garage next week. I had asked them to do the DSG oil change/service but they think that the work requires a special tool which they don't have. (They sent my Mk 1 Superb to a specialist for the gearbox oil when that was needed). Two questions really if someone can help - is this correct, and as the car has now done 83k miles should it definitely be carried out again? (Gearbox had oil/filters changed at 36k) Many thanks!
  8. I have ordered some paint, as the housing is cracked, but may be able to swap over if my painting is disastrous! I imagine the elecrical connections are all inside the door? I guess the door card has to be removed?
  9. Many thanks for your replies. Having accepted that a repair was impractical or impossible I then had the shock of discovering that a new mirror was £350! By very good fortune however I then found a breakers on eBay had one for £95 which I have bought. I just have the job of spraying it, because my luck ran out when it came down to the colour! I then have to decide whether to have a go at fitting it (easy /hard?) or taking it to my local garage and let them do it.
  10. The part in the mirror section has sheared from the arrowed component. The two parts should be attached. Sorry it wasn't very obvious but I hope this helps!
  11. Last night a large bird like a pheasant collided with my door mirror and the metal fixing that you can see in the photo snapped/sheared (it's some sort of alloy). Does anyone know if this component is available separately, or do I need to buy a whole new unit? I could have a go at glueing it, but don't know what's involved, and doubt it would work anyway. It was quite a thump, but the painted plastic housing only cracked slightly which I can live with. No sign of the unfortunate bird! Thanks in anticipation.
  12. If travelling via the tunnel and you are directed to the upper deck on the train, be very careful of the metal kerb on the nearside. As you drive up the ramp, you lose sight of the front of the car and it's really easy to catch the front wheel with possible damage to the wheel and tyre. If you do, then report it to a member of staff as I think you have recourse. I have twice caught the kerb and caused minor damage on both occasions!
  13. I have some silicone grease so I'll take all the bulbs out and apply some to all the seals and see if that works! Many thanks for your replies and advice.
  14. I seem to have quite a lot of what I think must be rainwater in the offside rear light of my 2011 Superb Estate. It gathers like condensation, so don't know if it is that rather than rain. I have taken the light out, removed all the bulbs and had a good look generally, but can see no obvious damage. The nearside rear light is fine. Has anyone come across this before? Thanks in advance!
  15. Mine was due to a leaking water pump; there was no sign of a leak. My car has a high mileage though.
