  1. Rear end was changed from trailing arm 105 setup to a rapid rear end when I had it .
  2. Love the new look on my old estelle-its looking very good is it bike carbs you are using and if so what other mods-Jon?
  3. since towing my caravan amonth ago i have an intermittent fault on my tdi estate-a clicking relay type noise somewhere in centre of dash which seems to be around hazard switch area. It seems to start after using the indicators and then a few seconds later it will click on anf off for a few seconds but not illuminating either the dashboard indicator lights or the external indicators-has anyone experienced this before and know what the fault is?
  4. Be wary on 28/36 dcd carbs now because they are probably over 40 years old. The 32/36dgav is great it you get the one with I think 26/27mm venturis-the 32gdav had 23/24 venturis but with both carbs they suffer with spindal wear due to use and mileage. The dgav carbs were used as replacements in weber kits to replace gm varajet and solex carbs in the late eighties so ther will be some old stock kicking around in weber dealers if you look -these can be adapted and re-calibrated to suit
  5. I ran 1289cc 136 with twin dcoms and sk8 it didnt have any economy only thirst ut good fun in a narrow rpm power band
  6. I run kleber quadraxer all season tyres on my tdi in 205/55/16 and they are an excellent all rounder and excellent for wear as well
  7. changed clutch on sat afternoon fitting luk 3 piece kit on original dmf coz dmf seemed ok -clutch nice and light took 2.5 hours start to end 105 quid for kit -result
  8. een quoted by euro car parts for a transmech solid flywheel conversion kit for 133 + vat -has anyone used one of these coz heard some reports of them being crap and another causing camshaft fault/failure? Planning on doing it tomorrow evening so appreciate any comments on these clutches thanks again Jon
  9. Cn anyone confirm whether or not this model is fitted with a dual mass flywheel. My clutch is starting to slip and pricing around for a 3 piece kit is giving me conflicting info on whether it has or not-do not want to order a standard kit to find out it has a dmf once gearbox removed and everywhere is shut . one supplier has offered a solid conversion kit at realistic price-can anyone help?
  10. update on the occy -I contacted the supplier of my cambelt kit I fitted in april which was t.p.s (vw parts supplier) who instructed me I would have to take car to skoda dealer for any warranty claim on the damaged tensioner although the receipt states if you have knowledge and equipment to diagnose the fault they would cover the parts.I instructed them that it was all stripped and faulty tensioner was in bits but they were not having it but were prepared to supply me a new tensioner at cost £42+vat.I asked them if every warranty claim regardless of what it is would have to go to agent to which they replied yes unless part was under £50 and diagnostic costs would probably be down to me!.Needless to say I kicked off big time and managed to get them to supply new tensioner foc to ascertain if any valve damage had been caused and if there was I would have to take to dealer.I fitted new belt tensioner timed it up and thank heavens it started perfectly off the button. The moral of the story is that in future Its elsewhere-has anyone else had these problems with vw warranties-it seems like its their license to print money with diagnostic checks!?
  11. just found the old cambelt tensioner in my garage from its last timing belt kit change and on close inspection the rear of this tensioner has a crack in it in the same place where the present one has-strange or is this a common fault or crap quality part?
  12. after driving my occy around 10 miles and then turning her off with no problems ,I returned started her up and had eml light on and glow plug light flashing.I have had this once before which just required resetting on diagnostic so I drove home dropped someone off then went to work(at local garage) and connected it up to our snap on scanner which registered a p1562 fault code referring to fuelling upper limit reached(intermittent) I cleared the code no problem but vehicle refused to start,I surfed the web and it advised to check various things including cambelt timing.I decided to remove upper cambelt cover and was shocked to find belt so slack I could almost get my finger between idler upper wheel and belt when slackness taken up.This was a serious concern so I decided to start removal of belt etc .When I removed crankshaft pulley and lower cover I found a bent piece of metal just under crank pulley wheel. further inspection showed movement in tensioner wheel and when tensioner removed it was obvious where the metal was from-The metal was frpm the block/inside of the tensioner which ment the tensioner spring had made a bid for freedom causing the slackness in the belt.I changed the timing belt with a full genuine vag belt kit only this april and have done approx 10k miles since then so will be putting a warranty claim into the dealer supplier on monday-hopefully there will not have been no valve to piston damage -so fingers crossed -has anyone else had problems with the tensioners?thanks -Jon
  13. Hi Pete thanks for the info regarding my old rapid-it has changed a lot with wheels and bodykit removed from when I built it but still good its going strong /Has it still got the avo springs and shockers on it?.If you need any info on spec please let me know thanks -Jon
  14. avo do a good range of uprated lowered springs and adjustable shockers which I found excellent on both my estelle and rapid.I cant remember exactly how much they were a few years ago -I think the shockers were around 45 each and the springs around 80 -I got a hefty discount with a letterheaded trade order .apart from that -cutting springs down and wider /lower profile tyres such a s185/60/13 as fitted to xr2 fiestas improves it.Also adjusting the camber by the adjusters of the lower trunnion bolts to maximum negative transforms the steering and turn in on bends
  15. some pics would be nice if possible Kenton-is Phil aka northern monkey still messing with skodas then?
