  1. I know this is an old thread, but I'm tyre-shopping today & found this with a search. I've done 6300 miles since replacing my Conti 5s & they are on the wear bars in the center of both tyres. I wouldn't have noticed if the garage hadn't told me... I don't generally drive my car hard, though I do tend to pull away relatively quickly sometimes. Even so, just over 6k miles for a set of tyres is pretty crappy IMO. Interested to hear how the Eagle F1s or PS3s are performing for those with a CR vRS. I can't imagine they'd be any worse than the Contis!
  2. I have a wifi one which I bought from ebay to use with my iPhone 5. I've yet to manage to make it work though... It works fine with a laptop, but for some reason I can't manage to get the network connection to work on the phone. I've tried various family members' iPhone 4, 4S and my 5 with no luck so far.
  3. My vRS did this last weekend when I left my stereo on for a couple of hours while cleaning the cars. Wouldn't stop until I started the engine. I had no idea what it was for a while either, then eventually put 2 + 2 together! As to why your battery may be low, that's a different thing entirely...
  4. I find the S setting tends to way over-rev on the diesel, so I never use it. I'd rather change manually if I'm in that much of a hurry... I use the paddles when going in relatively straight lines, or the gearstick when the paddles are out of place when cornering.
  5. Seeing as this thread got resurrected anyway.... I've had the car for a month or so now and I think I'm a permanent covert to the DSG! As noted above, it's a bit unsure of itself when changing back down the gears, especially if it's in "manual" mode and you change down yourself. It really does make it pretty uncomfortable. I realised fairly quickly that it will change down automatically even when set to manual, once the car slows/revs go low enough. I presume there's no reason not to do that? I mainly change down to 3rd myself when approaching junctions then let it take over until I come to a standstill. I tend to set the cruise to a sensible speed while on a run & leave it on standby when going through roundabouts & junctions, then re-engage at whatever speed I'm doing & let the DSG change up as it goes. That's a handy bonus you don't get in a manual. Where I live there are a lot of steep hills with 30mph limits & I have found the auto mode doesn't do so well on those, especially in traffic. When going downhill it seems to want to either over-gear or engine brake randomly for no apparent reason, so I tend to swap to manual for those & sit in 3rd or 4th. Likewise going uphill it's very eager to change up & down with every tweak of the gas pedal, so I take over then too. Overall it's taken a bit of getting used to, but I'm definitely enjoying the car so far. I find the driving experience so much more relaxing with general poodling about & wish I'd changed to a DSG much sooner. I used to drive to work into Central London every day & I would have been far more relaxed if I had one less foot to worry about! I've been pretty disappointed with the MPG though. My first 2 brim to brim measurements have been 34.5 and 32mpg, which seems very low to me. Admittedly the majority of the driving I've done the last month or so has been town driving & school runs, but that still seems on the low side to me. My Fabia vRS got 41-44mpg with the same type of driving. With cruise set to 80mph on a run this weekend I got an average of just under 45mpg which again, seems on the low side.
  6. I must admit I've not been particularly impressed with the heat of the mirrors either. I used to turn the mirrors on in the Fabia in the rain to keep the mirrors clear on the motorway & they were warm enough to keep them almost bone dry. On the Octy they melt frost ok, but stay very wet...
  7. I thought mine was broken when I first got the car too, even to the point that I took it into the dealer & asked them about it... Apparently it's normal for it to be so "floppy". The one on my 2005 Fabia vRS was so much better!
  8. It's not, but I find I get terrible glare & reflection from the interior lights when I use the manual dip in my car. So much so, that I can't actually see anything in the mirror other than the reflection of the interior... I was considering getting a retrofit mainly for this reason, but it seems it's pretty complicated & costly!
  9. I'm certainly enjoying my DSG since I collected the car 2 weeks ago. I do find that it seems a little "unsure" when driving conservatively or in traffic, where it tends to change up & down unnecessarily quite a bit and sometimes hesitates between gears too. If driven a little harder the gear changes get much more smooth. Unfortunately for me, the school run for my 2 kids entails going up two very steep hills in traffic. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but it really feels like the DSG box is riding the clutch nearly all the time when going slowly uphill, where I would have sat in 2nd gear with no clutch in my manual Fabia vRS at the same speeds. Having said all that, I do agree that driving with the paddles away from a junction or on the twisties is great fun and surprisingly smooth
  10. I just picked up my blue vRS a couple of weeks ago, with 5600 miles on the clock. Sounds very similar to yours. The Skoda Assist stays with the car, so you'll get that, along with the balance of the warranty of course. I didn't ask them about extending the warranty though....
  11. I had my Fabia vRS for over 6 years before it got its first dink. Only it wasn't just a dink, it was a huge gouge in the driver's door from an eejit in a car park who must have reversed out of their space at full lock. Needless to say the bugger just drove off... No cameras in the car park of course! About 3 months after that was fixed I had a motorbike run into the back of me & ride off, who subsequently refused all knowledge when I tried to claim on the insurance, despite me having his reg number and full description. Then a holiday to France in the summer saw two big door-shaped chips & dents taken out of the paintwork in two different car parks... Needless to say, when I pick up my new Octavia vRS today, I'll be back to my former paranoid self!
  12. There will be no washing & polishing going on this weekend with this weather :( I must admit I'm more of a computer techie than a car one... I'm not good with removing & replacing trim! There's a car audio place just around the corner from me, I think I'll ask them how much they would charge to fit a BT kit if I manage to get one for a decent price. What's the best thing to use to seal the alloys with?
  13. The Blaupunkt DAB54 in my Fabia vRS does this too & has done for years. It is annoying but I never got around to having it looked at as it happens so infrequently (once every couple of months or so at a guess) & I tend to forget about it between times...
  14. I just bit the bullet and bought myself a new toy... a diesel DSG vRS. The car is a standard vRS spec & has just under 6k miles on it. It was previously registered to Skoda UK in Jan 12. Apparently it was a director's car at head office. I've been reading through a lot of the threads on here to pick up some pointers here & there. What would be the first things you do with a used vRS? What would you seasoned owners consider an absolute must? A few things on my list so far... I read on a couple of threads about resetting the adaptive auto? Get a boot net! Maybe get a set of boot LEDs. I recall seeing in a thread somewhere that some reprogramming may be needed? Can these ones just pop in without that? The car doesn't have integrated BT at the moment. I don't want an aftermarket, external solution but the dealer quoted £380 to install OEM. Is there a cheaper way to get it done properly? I'm not planning on doing anything major to the car myself, I mostly just don't have the spare time or inclination to fiddle too much.
  15. Unfortunately they don't come as standard with DSG. There are very few stock cars left with paddles apparently.
