  1. Rwbaldwin-I hear you. But discs are brand new, it's one of the reasons the wheel was off at the time! When it came loose I looked for something like that: dirt etc.. Nothing there.......
  2. Hi guys. This is getting interesting! No lubricant on the bolts, torqued to 120 with a calibrated wrench. Actually my original reason for posting was not how to tighten wheel bolts, I've managed that successfully since the mid eighties! My question was after 1400 miles has anyone suddenly had a wheel loosen? How can it be fine for such a high mileage and amount of varied driving and then loosen?! No reason to suspect anything malicious, plastic covers still in place etc..
  3. Why the nearside felicia16v? Standard alloy and bolts, defo torqued and check torqued all wheels after fitting and then a few miles. A smear of copper slip between wheel and disc surface to stop sticking. No locktite anywhere near them!
  4. I'm a mechanic to trade and yet never had anything like this. Major work on the VRS last month including brakes, suspension and four new tyres. All great, no problems, finished as I would normally do including torquing the wheels as specified. 1400 miles later, after all sorts of driving - commute, around town, motorway, fast countryside. The wheel bolts on the left front have loosened off! WTF? Anyone else had this? Everything on that corner seems completely normal, nothing hinted at a problem until this happened.
  5. 157k miles total only PD75 so at the moment trebormint is winning!
  6. Never done this in a car before but my VRS takes it in it's stride. Truly fantastic little car that I still love. Especially a couple of weeks ago on the deserted roads of the Highlands, awesome 600 mile weekend (being chased by three Aston Martins-they didn't keep up!) It's still good enough for the Missus to get a speeding ticket this morning and riding beautifully on a new set of Uniroyal Rainmaster 3s: recommended. Here's to the next 100,000!
  7. A final update. Went back out to her after it had sat for some time. Some more time turning over and then it caught and ran perfectly. Must have bled out and all is well. Many thanks to all those that posted for expanding my education and calming me down! Thanks guys.
  8. Fabia_19; You're absolutely right! Thanks guys, makes sense. Previously I've done half a dozen filter changes on VRS and have just disconnected old, connected new and driven away. It seems this time I'm not getting away with that. New filter went on dry. After the car had stopped I took it off, it had fuel in it. The old filter was still upright from removal and hadn't been emptied so was full of fuel, it's now back on the car and had made no difference. Seems my problem is further up the line now. I had the feed pipe to the tandem pump off, when I turn ignition on fuel came out of it so the 1 second prime is pushing fuel through the filter and up to that pump, I must have air after that. Any special process for bleeding or just turn it over until it sorts itself out?! Thanks for all your quick replies.
  9. Hi, Hope you can help as I have had the mother of all mornings. Car was low on diesel this morning, ok ultra low - trip showed 0 miles left (I know, I know, I shouldn't but I did) so filled up wth Asda fuel and all was well. Drove the eight miles to my parents house and all remains well. There I changed the air filter and fuel filter, no biggie as I have done them often before and all was fine. I thought. The missus jumped in it to go down town and it died after 40 metres. Will not restart. So far I have checked the air filter, changed back to the original fuel filter, checked the timing belt is still turning the cam, bled some fuel out of the inlet pipe to the filter from the tank and checked there is fuel into the tamdem pump. All is well and the diesel looks like diesel, not water! In tank pump is running ok, fuel flows into the filter ok I think (what pressure does it run at?). I took the plug off the air meter and it looks clean and dry, gave it and the wiring a good wiggle too. The only thing I did notice was that when I took off the twin pipe fitting at thefront of the filter when I went to change it to the original there was a puff from it as if it were drawing air in/under pressure. Dunno if it was the case for sure but I'm sure I did hear something..... The only thing I can think of is that I have got dirt in the system yet there was nothing out of the ordinary during the filter changes and everything is clean enough in my engine bay - not lumps of crud everywhere or excessively dusty, just ordinary working car. So what can I check next? Electrical maybe? Any way to check the fuel system / tandem pump / PDs? Help! Thanks, Peter
  10. Thanks guys, I am going outside to; Look around the interior light Look at the B pillar Look at the manual Have a long hard word with myself for taking the easy way out and posting to you guys In that order....
  11. Hi all, I had the dog in the car when I nipped into the shops for a five minute milk run during the latest cold snap (so no need to have a window open, - yes, am aware of having dogs in a parked car etc. so please, no lectures!), came back to the alarm going off. So I tried it again at home and same thing happened. Dog is in a crate in car so doesn't jump about, actually it falls asleep as soon as it gets in the car usually. So I was wondering how the standard alarm works? Have never noticed any movement sensors inside and can't imagine it rocked the car much if it has a gyro type sensor. Or is it just faulty and this is the first it's manifested itself?! Peter
  12. Cheers guys, will check the red lights at the back then go to my friendly garage man.
  13. Hi, My '06 Furby has had a dash warning light come on, the handbook says "Control system for exhaust gases", is this just a fancy name for the Lambda sensor or could it be something worse? Or should I be getting a VAG COM download? Lastly, can I still drive it?! Thanks, Peter
  14. Hi, With the imminent arrival of my first born I'm now regretting not getting a car with the passenger air bag deactivation switch. Has anyone every fitted one of these to a VRS which left the factory without? I'm hoping that the loom is already there and I just need to invest in switch and housing. But then life is like that isn't it; nice and easy...... Cheers, Peter
