Does this shock need replacing ?
Hi all. Got car serviced today. Mechanic advised that front offside shock needs replacing due to a leak so recommending both fronts be replaced. I took a look myself. It seems bone dry with the exception of what's in the pics below. Would this fail an MOT/NCT? It looks as if it's only a few small marks - I was expecting an oil stained mess. Any advice/opinions? Front Wiper Arm Torque Spec?
Hi all. Just after replacing windscreen and had to adjust the front wiper arms as one was smacking off the a pillar. Does anyone have the torque spec for the front arm nuts? The workshop manual has the rear wiper arm spec as 12nm but doesn't show the front arm spec. Im worried I'll overtighten them so hoping you can help.

AutoGlass repaired Windscreen chip on Insurance - Repair Failed - Warranty?
Hi all. As above really. Got a chip on my windscreen a few months back and AutoGlass filled the chip. I went for this as I wanted to keep the OEM Skoda heated windscreen. Came back from a week long holiday to find the chip has expanded into three smaller cracks about 4 inches long each. Has anyone had to go back to AutoGlass before about this? Their website says they warranty the work done for as long as you have the car. Considering it probably means a new screen - will I give my insurance company a heads up so it isn't treated as a new claim? Gutted as wanted to keep the Skoda screen and doubt they'll provide an actual manufacturer's one.

Help needed with updating the Sat-Nav maps on Columbus system
I have an MIB1 Columbus system (MIB1 High) - I think last year was the final year updates were released for this model but I'll leave it to my learned colleagues here at Briskoda to clarify. Wouldn't mind being able to update the maps again. Previously I've only ever updated the entire EU pack as I didn't want to disturb anything but I do agree that we should have the ability to update specific countries alone for ease of use.

2ltr TDI - any way to extend glow plug warmup when starting with kessy?
Hi all, My 2015 RS TDI, ever since about 6 months old, had a tendency to not charge the glow plugs long enough before starting up - causing it to turn over excessively. After my dealer was ever helpful with the 'we can't find anything wrong' line while the car was during warranty I just learned to press the start button, wait for the plugs to warm up, give an extra second before clutching and pressing the button again to start. I tend to forget this every now and again and the cars chugs like crazy. I thought it might have been the battery so bought a new one - coded it and although it's a fraction of a second quicker it still isn't enough to let me just sit into the car, clutch and press the start button once. Does anyone know if there's a solution in OBDeleven or VCDS to add a second to the glowplug time when I clutch and press the start button? The system does wait for the glowplug light to go out, but it needs just a little bit more to allow for an easy start. Thanks all.

Columbus mib1 0409 firmware
Hi all, Just wondering if it's possible to downgrade my firmware - I updated to 411 on my MIB1 Columbus and Canton but now there's an active static or analogue hiss when the radio is muted. I'm concerned the update could have done it - and whether downgrading might fix it. Thanks!

Static or 'Hiss' coming from Columbus/Canton when radio low/muted
So I don't think I'm out of the woods yet. I did not mention this to the other half whatsoever only for her to ask 'What is that noise?' when I had the radio muted. The fan wasn't going on the amp at the time - and she described it to me as what an open AUX sounds like on a stereo. Very analogue. The mib helper site says that upgrading the firmware on my columbus I might need a dataset as I have an external amp - albeit OEM. On OBDEleven byte11 is set to Sound_System_External_MOST - which I believe is the correct setting for the Canton. Anyone any suggestions? Reckon I might need someone with ODIS to load a dataset? Thanks again for your time and help.

Columbus Map Update 2024 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
I think I've embarrassingly gotten to the root of this problem. I started snooping around today only to notice that the Canton AMP, under the passenger seat, had its fan on and was making the exact noise I was hearing. Will need to check more later - if this is the case I'm very happy. That said I'm wondering if the amp is starting to show its age by being so loud. Thank you all for your help.

Looking at a few sites I've noticed the comment 'External amplifier (Bose, Bang&Olufsen) might need dataset after update' on the mib helper page - is this the 'reparameterization' I've heard about and would it apply? Any way to do this via OBDeleven - or is it a case of disconnecting the battery for a period and reconnecting?

Static or 'Hiss' coming from Columbus/Canton when radio low/muted
Hi all, I hope I haven't dug myself into an expensive hole so I'm hoping you can help - Earlier today I took it upon myself to install the latest firmware 0411 on my Columbus MIB1 with Canton. When returning to the car this evening I couldn't help but notice that, when muted or on a low volume, I can hear a static like 'hiss' sound. I don't know if it's related to the firmware; but after hearing this issue I scanned with OBDeleven and got the error 'B201A00: Checking software version management' which apparently relates to the Canton AMP - I followed the process on mib-helper and cleared it via OBDeleven and unfortunately, even though the car no longer reports any errors/issues on rescan, the hiss is still there. Is there something I need to do to readjust the Canton system given that I've updated the firmware? Can I even revert it back to what it was previously on? I literally have to turn off the radio to get the noise to stop. Thanks for your help as always guys - I'm pretty annoyed at myself and should not have gone near the system as errors/glitches were rare on it before this. @pab567 @varooom - would you have heard about this?

Columbus Map Update 2024 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Another question to Tell and others in the know - Having installed 0411 on my Columbus MIB1 with Canton I couldn't help but notice this evening that, when muted, I can hear a static like 'hiss' sound. I don't know if it's related to the firmware; but after hearing this issue I went about fixing the B201A error and cleared it via OBDeleven and unfortunately, even though the car no longer reports any errors/issues on rescan, the hiss is still there. Is there something I need to do to readjust the Canton system given that I've updated the firmware? I literally have to turn off the radio to get the noise to stop.

Columbus Map Update 2024 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Thank you for the update, Tell! Much appreciated. For my MIB 1 Columbus - are the maps shown on Skoda's update portal the most up to date or should I be getting them from mib-helper.com? Looking at the file names they both mention P350, so I'm hoping that means they're both the most up to date. On the firmware side I've updated my system to 411 and fortunately no errors; I was concerned as I especially had CANTON and apparently there can be issues regarding the external amp. I'm pleasantly surprised re: the maps. I thought VAG just stopped updating MIB1 platforms altogether a few years back. My street might actually be on the map now as opposed to a random field. Is there an ability to update the gracenote database on MIB1 High?
