  1. Camouflage-free.....moving.......final styling? Let's see in a few weeks: http://www.auto.cz/video-nova-skoda-octavia-kamuflaze-ceske-dalnici-70445
  2. Ever wondered which TSI engine in Octavia has the best fuel economy? There's been a nicely planned and well-executed comparison done by a Czech magazine World of Engines (Svet motoru), revealing that.......you may read it yourselves : http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=cs&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.auto.cz%2Fserial-o-spotrebe-srovnani-motoru-1-2-tsi-1-4-tsi-a-1-8-tsi-budiz-turbo-67413&act=url Translation is a bit "robotic", but anyway, the message is clear. Show the middle finger to the down-sizing!
  3. You aaaare not alooone! Had exactly the problem 3-4 weeks ago. Car sounded more like a tram or steam train at low speeds. Turned out to be a little stone stuck between the braking elements. Charged 85 EUR to remove. I carry the stone in my walet as a souvenir. Fortunately, no permanent damage, despite ~500 km of driving since the problem occured. Tomas
  4. Maybe it was already discussed here, so I apologize for a duplicity in advance. On my recent short trip to Prague, as an Octavia owner, I couldn't help but notice all those Skodas being driven with pride in their country of origin. One Octavia really stood out, since it was painted in absolutely stunning metallic colour- as I found out on Czech Skoda website, it is called Marrone Brown or Amber Brown.Pure class. Anyway, my point is, Skoda in CZ is offering 50 (fifty!!!) additional/special paints for all their models, including RS range. Anyone fancies OctaviaRS in Baby Pink? Check it out here: http://www.skoda-auto.cz/cze/model/newoctavia/gallery/coours_fleet/Pages/colours_fleet.aspx Skoda charges an extra 25% for this Special Paint (15.000 CZK). Does anyone have any info if UK or Irish dealers are offering those colours at the moments? For those lucky enough to be in the process of choosing their new Skoda, don't be shy to ask your dealer about those options.
  5. Quote: "My only 'issue' is a faint metallic/mechanical tinkling when I am moving off, the old car may have done this but the engine was so noisy I wouldn't have noticed it! I would be interested if you have noticed the same? " I remember that sound pretty well, was present in my car well. The sound disappeared after certain mileage (can't recall when exactly, 3-4k kms?). And it's not that I started to ignore the noise, I actually listened to hear it the other day. Matter of history.
  6. To everybody that's reading this topic. So now, after 5000+ kms driven in my still lovely (dare I say still new) Octavia 1.4TSI DSG, I may want to question its thirst for petrol. Could be my (or my wife's) driving style, but long-term MPG, mostly driven in the Fair City (of Dublin and its suburbs, and motorway as well), was during winter months: 28.2mpg (or 10 litres per 100km), and now has improved significantly (just joking) to 31.4 mpg (9 l/100km)!!! Anybody with a similar experience? I'm trying to drive it in a sensible and responsible manner (suffice to say, usually with two small kids at the back, and a vigilant wife in the passenger's seat), so: no hard acceleration, using engine to break, in one word: an EASY driving. But still, short-range driving: I never managed to get over 530 km on a full tank (e.g. 440 km driven and 90 km range displayed on Maxidot when orange low-fuel light goes on). DSG always in D position, and while it always keeps revs very low, in what they call economic range, my experience with high petrol consumption suggests otherwise. Also, I quite don't understand why after a longish drive (when mpg stats on Maxidot should be settled and calibrated), when car is stationary for with engine idling (waiting for 2-5 minutes at a railway crossing) the AVERAGE consumption on maxidot is INCREASING. Immediate consumption in this situation is shown to be 0.7 l per hour, which is roughly 10-12 times less than what engine would be burning when driven for the same amount of time (i.e. 1 hour) at constant speed (e.g.100 kmh), in which case you would end up with roughly 7 liters per 100 kms per hour (I say YOU, because I personally would end up with 10 liters/100 kmh, sad face). So shouldn't the consumption be improving/dropping during this time when engine is running but idle? Anyway, this topic was written just to: 1. moan about, 2. warn people intending to buy 1.4TSI DSG and believing manufacturer and salesmen it's higly economical to run, 3. get some advice on how to possibly improve mpg 4. have your pity.....
  7. This may help (as it helped me to even realize that there ARE quite tyres on the market). Besides, those quite tyres performed even better in certain conditions and certain tests. There's a few more recent tests and recommendation there (and elsewhere).... Octavias seems to suffer from an unfortunate combination of noisy tyres, allegedly misaligned wheels from production and not-so-well interior sound insulation. We need to live with it. OR listen to the radio/mp3 in the car at high volume
  8. Hey, tried your link. Didn't work. Perhaps will need to set the viewing policy of your album to public rather than private?
  9. Ordered Octavia hatch 1.4TSI DSG from a Belfast dealer (Mervyn Stewart). Placed on 16th of Feb, build week 15, already in Emden, waiting for a cargo ship on 27th of April. I wouldn't object if the car was on one of the 2 ships arriving to Grimsby from Emden today. But don't want to be overexcited. Still a bit of a journey to go (Belfast, few days at the dealer's, bringing it to Dublin.....). Still, it will be within 12 weeks.
  10. Does anybody know what's the usual journey for the Skoda Octavias sold in Northern Ireland? Czech Republic > Emden> and then? Are they shipped to Grimsby or is it another UK port? Tyne or Sheerness? Waiting there for a few days and loaded on another cargo ship to Belfast? Is my thinking anywhere close to reality? Thanks.
  11. Hmmmmm, it must be your personal charm then. I ordered mine (1.4TSI DSG hatch) more than a month ago, 16 of Feb to be exact, and was also given wk15 (or 16) for a build. INTERESTING. I either don't understand how the spots are allocated or you were lucky and your car was placed in the system instead of somebody else's order that was cancelled. Which i don't think is true and fair, because if an order is cancelled, other cars already in waiting line should be shifted and built earlier. Explanation, anyone? Anyway, I;m not jealous and I wish you "meet and greet" your new shiny car as soon as possible. It's the system Czech factory runs that concerns me.
  12. If contacting them by email expect ridiculous respond times. From my own experience, i got an email today (15/03/10) as a response to my inquiry from 3/3/10 !!! So you either call, or wait. Maybe Skoda CC is just flooded with the questions about missing power folding mirrors from Elegance spec Either way, do not expect much (especially for general questions)- I asked about possibility of adding an extra (3-spoke steering wheel in my case) to my order, and Skoda CC said it cannot be done after order went through the system. And here I come, my dealer easily pushed this option 2 1/2 weeks after the order took place.
  13. I forgot to ask about the following : If updating the order is possible, will it change the build week? As in the car will be re-ordered and ,here I come, back to the end of waiting list.......
  14. I was just wondering what's other people's experience with adding or leaving out optional extras after car has been ordered (with a known build week) but still waiting to be built (6 weeks to go, to be exact)? How willing and flexible are the dealers, Skoda UK, factory in Czech republic? It was only yesterday that I realized that in order to have controls for the radio on your steering wheel you need to go for an extra option!!! Oh boy, once again I fell prey to marketing hyenas - flicking through the brochure pictures leaves you with a feeling that everything is standard or added for free to make drivers of Skoda as HAPPY as possible. Anyway, I asked my dealer to add 3-spoke wheel with radio controls and paddles for DSG to my order, and he said he's gonna contact Skoda about it and will see what and if it can be done. Sounded mysterious, didn't really put my mind at ease. Also, Briskodians!!! Half of the UK is driving new Skodas since 1st of March, after they waited for 10 reg plates. Where are the posts describing your experience? Or are you eyes still filled with the tears of ecstasy so you cannot write??? PS: If there's been a similar thread posted I apologize for a duplicity
  15. Nearly nobody here seems to mention ordering Maxi-Dot as an extra for Elegance octavias. Is it standard, then? I found among extras in the brochure. My order is TSI DSG Elegance, and my dealer happily let me pay 100£ for it. Hopefully, i'm not being ripped off. Or, am I.......?
