  1. Will I need to get a gasket and the gasket sealant at the same time. I was going to let the garage who does the MOT replace it but not sure if I need to supply them with the gasket and gasket sealant as well as the actual sump.
  2. The car needs an MOT on 1st of September and on the last service I was advised that the sump plug had been stripped and they had managed to get it to seal but used a sump pump to do the oil change (not ideal). Replacement sumps seem to be a fair price on eBay (£25 ish). However I can't remember if I need one with or without an oil sensor hole. It is a 57 plate estate 1.9 TDI Elegance. Would anybody be able to advise if that would have a sensor hole? Thanks Jim
  3. Hi Everyone, I need to replace the passenger side rear light cluster on my 57 plate estate. It looks like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Lamp-Light-Cluster-Passenger-Side-Skoda-Fabia-6Y5-6Y3-1999-2007-/331114960634?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda%7CModel%3AFabia%7CPlat_Gen%3A6Y5&hash=item4d17fd56fa Is there anything I need to watch out for when doing the swap? Does anyone have a spare they want rid off (maybe after doing a light upgrade or something similar). I need to get it done in time for an MOT due on 1st September. Thanks Jim
  4. Thanks for all the help everyone. Very much appreciated. I have my eye on a couple of 1.9 TDI's. One with 46k and one with 56k on the clock. Will have to stretch my budget to around 4k but that is not impossible. Might be going to see one in Manchester tomorrow if I can get off work with enough time to spare. Any pointers on what to watch out for on the 1.9TDI's with approx 50k on the clock. They are both the top Elegance versions and a little concerned that all the extra gadgets might just be more things to go wrong. Is all the traction control, cruise control, parking sensors etc reliable kit? I would happily drop to a less well equipped 1.9TDI but right now I can't find one for the right price / mileage. Thanks once again. Jim
  5. Thanks Day, Are those engines still worth going for even with the low mileage we do (less than 6000 a year)? I only ask as I was under the impression that diesels are better if you do quite a lot of miles (in terms of cost to run). In case anyone knows of a good Fabia estate that fits the bill I am in the Leeds (West Yorkshire) area. Jim
  6. Hi Everyone, I've been a lurker for a while on Briskoda but I am need of a replacement Fabia Estate so thought I would make a post. Unfortunately SWMBO had a minor ding in ours today and I suspect the insurance company will declare it a write off. Our (written off) car is a 52 plate fabia 1.4mpi estate. Not a huge fan of the engine as it seems quite noisy and still has a £200 tax band on it. Also the head gasket went on it twice (I believe this is quite common on that engine). What is the best Fabia estate to go for. Don't need it to be particularly quick (although don't want a slouch either). Low tax band and reliable please. We only do about 5000 to 6000 miles a year. I usually spend no more than £4000 and to be honest the budget is ideally £2500 or less. I realise that everyone's views are different but just looking for a sturdy, reliable, family car that is cheap to run. Thanks Jim
