  1. Thanks for all the feedback.... ... The columbus comment about connectivity is interesting.... having spoken to my local dealer there seems a huge amount of confusion about what is supported by what..... i currently have the ipod connectivity in my mkl2 and it works great but i have read that this IS and ISNT required with the columbus.... anyone actually know which is the case?? I currently have a old ipod tucked away in the glove box which i only ever take out to update whats on it, the rest of the time it just sits there connected up ready to be selected from using the touch screen.... yes it was an expensive option for what it does... but actually really worth the money
  2. Good Afternoon All. Looking to get peoples opinions as I'm having a nightmare deciding which way to go with possible VRS purchase. I have now had a mk2 FL petrol hatch for 4 years and have loved every minute of ownership but it may be time for a change. The mrs was keen to look at other cars, very much of the.... you dont want the same car again do you, but tbh i have looked around and there just isnt much around in terms of competition if you need space, performance and decent build quality. So likely to be another vrs, the boss is starting to come round to the idea..... .but then we get to choosing the right options etc, somehow much easier last time, this is where i hope you can help. - Hatch or estate.... this time round i have two little girls (growing up fast) and thinking maybe the estate is going to help with moving bikes around etc, i think the girls will love the panoramic roof too ....... but is there any disadvantages i havent thought of??? (more wind / road noise, or is this a thing of the past?) - Sat nav.... historically i always thought built in ones were a waste of money but, maybe with old age, i am starting to warm to the idea..... is the columbus worth the extra money? Thanks for your help / views...
  3. Anyway....... Two great looking cars... Have to admit i nearly fell off my chair when i read the monthly costs of the S3.......... BARGAIN. Not sure it would be big enough for me, but certainly intrigued.
  4. Don't suppose you could send me the details too.... very close to ordering a VRS, but if thsi deal or similar is still available it could be very tempting for a couple of years. Thanks
  5. My list below, Peugeot 106 Peugeot 206gti Renault Clio rs 182 Lotus Elise s Renault megane rs r26 Skoda octavia vrs mk2 Just trying to work out what comes next, leon cupra or vrs mk3 or alfa giulietta cloverleaf .... Hmm
  6. It really is the space thing that is a huge positive for the octavia, plus it has been a nice experience owning one, similar people own them... dealers generally very good etc etc Re finance... 3 years 0% on the seat at the min....
  7. I was assuming, maybe incorrectly that as still largely vw running gear it would be similar for reliability.
  8. We'll I was all but ready to order a new vrs to replace my much loved mk2 but one I am starting to doubt myself. After reading about delivery issues and struggling to find discounts ( shows how popular it is ) I started to think about other options, not helped by the plan b thread :-) And all of a sudden I am thinking about a leon cupra instead, there is some discount to be had, adaptive dampers as std, extra 60bhp, std sat nav. In all honesty if u add sat nav take into account discount they the same price. With two little ones I would really miss the massive boot though HELP.... Confused.
  9. I bought through DTD and had no problems at all, delivery was about 13 weeks, quoted 12 - 16. and that was while other on here were waiting 20 + weeks. ( a petrol vrs with a fair few optiosn on it) Once ordered you deal with a skoda dealer anyway, picked up the car, no probs, very friendly. (my local dealer didnt even respond to my request for a quote) TBH i'm a convert, obviously i can only speak from my own experience, but excellent.
  10. There is about 3 or 4 different ones so shop around. I used a similar site and was very happy got about 1k more than anyone offered trade in, prob 500 less than would have got privately. If u go into it expecting them to find a few bits and bobs and knock a little off it works well. Oh and be honest. No hassle and a quick sale. Estimate for mine was 10k got 9.6 but it did need new pads and a service in 8 weeks. Best I got offered trade in was 8.4 P.s was a webuyalike not actually them.
  11. I have to say (also in the had my car a few weeks club) the speedo thing is very odd..... I have no idea how i didnt notice it on the test drive but i dont think i have ever had a car with a non linear scale... ok in the r26 the numbers used to get bigger in font, but there just seems so many numbers on the thing.
  12. Maybe its all part of VWs push to put a gap between skoda and VW? :'( But i agree, i would certainly have gone for the upgrade
  13. Upgraded 12 speaker system...?? Did I miss a option on my vrs?
  14. I hope they don't shoot themselves in the foot. I have to admit historically I wouldn't have bought a skoda (or a vw for that matter) but I'm a true convert. Love my new vrs. Fun, fast, practical.... What more could I want. But skoda in my eyes compete with Renault, ford, etc etc.... Not the Korean brands. Their last md gave us the Superd and yeti, there is a reason sales are improving, there great cars. Don't change, just continue to do what your doing.
  15. I'm also 3 weeks into ownership and the car is great.. but i like you find point 5 very annoying. Interestingly i even contacted skoda about it askign if it was a known problem and if there was wany solution. Interestingly there response was: Thank you for your email dated 01 November 2010, regarding the issue with your vehicle. I can confirm that we do not have any records of an issue on the Octavia range of vehicles relating to your problem. I would therefore suggest that you contact your nearest Skoda retailer to get them to check that there is no fault with the vehicle that might be causing the rain to enter the interior. Which is odd because i'm sure other peeps on here have said they have mentioned it to skoda too. Not yet had chance to take it to a dealer, but in all honesty i think its a design issue. Just hope it doesnt wreck my rear headrests.
