12 V 'Cigar Lighter' accessory socket
hashi replied to hashi's topic in Audio, Electronics and Security
One more question - is there any risk of setting off the airbags when prising off trim around the dashboard? I see a switch to deactivate the front passenger seat airbag. Hashi -
12 V 'Cigar Lighter' accessory socket

Thanks adamal and Kenny - those are great ideas. I'm thinking of using the female cig socket as that means I dont have to hack the original plug off the unit. Does anyone know: 1.if there are any unused (switched) fuse sockets in the Superb's fusebox and 2. is there enough room to stow the female socket plus miles of wire behind the dash? Thanks, Hashi -

Thanks Eyegr, I had thought about this, but apparently the plug on the dashcam steps down the voltage - they specifically tell you NOT to wire it in directly. Hashi -
Hi everyone, It seems that the 12 V socket in my 2010 Superb remains live even when the ignition is switched off and the car locked. This came to light when I plugged my new dashcam in - I noticed it was still recording once I'd parked up. Is it possible to rewire the socket so that it turns off with the key? Is it easy to do? All suggestions welcome. Hashi

Rusty - do you think they didn't know how (despite me telling them!?) or could they just not be bothered? Ian

So..... I paid £1459.19 for a service plus DSG oil & filter change, plus timing belt, tensioner change etc plus brake pads plus O/S/F/ bushing and they couldn't/wouldn't activate my hidden menu?? okay

Sorry, I was using 'VCDS' as a generic term, the same as I say 'Hoover' instead of vacuum cleaner! To rephrase, should the Skoda main dealer have been able to liberate my 'Hidden Menu' with the equipment available to them? Ian
-
My Superb II went in for a 'Big' service today to the Skoda dealer. I requested that they activate the Columbus 'Hidden Menu' whilst they had it connected to VCDS - even giving them the "37> Navigation > Adaptation > Test Menu > Change to value of 1" information. Disappointed when I picked it up that they said they couldn't do it as this was only possible with "VAG hardware" and couldn't be done on Skoda equipment. Is this true or Bull poo? Ian

Thanks very much for such a fast and helpful reply Rusty! One further question then - will I be able to install POIs if I dont upgrade the firmware? I had read that the newer maps needed a 3-partition hard drive and I assume mine will still be 2-partition? Thanks, Hashi

Thanks for all the great advice on here! I do not know what firmware I currently have (hidden menu remains hidden and I dont have access to VCDS in Northern Ireland) however my system is currently running V10 with 7 digit postcode. The car is 2011. From this information is it possible to advise: a) Am I likely to have to update the firmware to run V12 maps? and If so, am I likely to need firmware (eg 4020) for an earlier version - which I have seen reference to further up-thread? Thanks in advance for any advice. Hashi

Failed my MOT today - Bonnet wouldn't open!
hashi replied to hashi's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
LOL over here in Northern Ireland we get our first MOT on our fourth birthday. Having said that the procedure is a lot tougher (or at least it used to be) than on the mainland. You guys can take the car to a local (approved) garage, right? Over here it is done at a government-run facility which is much less lenient or forgiving! -

Sorted! Took it to the dealer. The cable had 'come loose'. It was a very fiddly job to fix, costing £100. -

Thanks Sherlock, If bryan's suggestion doesn't work I'm afraid its off to the dealer to sort it out - sounds too fiddly for me! -

Thanks Bryan - I will try this tomorrow if I can persuade SWMBO to help!
