  1. Yes my mistake. It is the 4th block bit 6 that needs changing.. Although my description was wrong the point I coded was correct, not that it helped. I have got it working now though. I changed my VCDS software from 14.10.2 back to 12.12.3 and the stereo is changing now. There is nothing to see that is different, it always said coding accepted but today it really is accepted. Hopefully now things should start to work.......
  2. Hi I am trying to code my 2013 Amundsen+ non DABS headunit to accept a reversing camera. It from a Skode Superb 2 pre FL car. I have VCDS and upto now have never had any issues making coding changes. What I am seeing here is when I change anything in coding that the change is accepted according to VCDS but is then not present in the Stereo. I have added in the reversing camera option several times in bit 4, accepted it into the system only to find that the code goes back to how it was before. I have tried removing power to the unit after making the change but it makes no difference. Has anyone else had issues changes codes in an Amundsen+, this is driving me crazy now. I even disconnected the battery for 5 minutes only to face warning lights for steering assist staring at me until I started driving the car, it shouldn't be this hard.... Any help or thoughts greatly appreciated. Steve
  3. I have an 02 Comfort with 6sp manual box. The car has been incredible. No faults or failures in 97k miles. On a gentle run I got 50 mpg at 90 on a motorway it gets around 42 mpg. I run it with a chip and in terms of performance not much comes close. The only gripe I would have is 1st gear which is just far to under geared to be of use. I have just been forced into a Passat estate with a 130 PD engine which I took to 163 bhp with a remap. Performance is not in the same league and fuel economy is about 3-5 mpg better at best. For me there is no comparison. Go V6 every time, the engine impresses anyone who drives the car. Sadly I have to sell the car and that is not easy...... Would be easier to sell almost anything else compared to this which is such a shame...

  5. Thanks.... I feared that would be the cost involved... Need to save up quickly I think...
  6. Anyone know how much it costs to have the cambelt replaced on the 2.5 TDI? Mines due and I am starting to have nightmares about the cost already.....
  7. I drive a 3 1/2 year old 2.5V6 TDI and have done for 5 months. Its done 53K and is chipped to run at just under 200BHP. I drive the car hard and its not perfect. The suspension is far too soft and as a result the underside of my car spends a lot of time removing chunks of tarmac from country lanes as I hurtle down them at suicidal speed in the middle of the night. Given the way I drive it I have to say the cars are good. Very good. So far its needed new pads all round and a main dipped headlamp bulb. Nothing else at all.. Before the Skoda I had a Peugeot and that vsisted the dealer once or twice a month. The only thing that hadn't been replaced or repaired after 30 months of my driving was the gearbox. In this I include more or less everything from the radio through to the engine. Comparing the 2 makes you appreciate how good the cars are compared to the competition, especially given the prices. OK the dealers are awful in general. Have you been to other dealers though? I still have a Peugeot dealer chasing me for
  8. I've got a digital box on my 2.5V6 TDI. I love it. Performance is way up on the standard car and in normal driving I get slightly more fuel economy too (2-3 mpg). Cost a bit but really was worth it too me. After 14k miles in 5 months I have no problems at all....
  9. I went for a PSI chip from east coast racing. Only reason being that I had a chip from them on my old Peugeot and I got good service from them and help when I had troubles that turned out to be a transfer pump fault not the chip. I would say it wasn't easy to fit though. Its only 5 wires but 2 of them are into the wiring loom from the Engine ECU and its tucked underneath the bulk head in front of the driver. 2 more are for power and the last is to the pump. The box intercepts the canbus signal and then passes the adapted signal to the pump. As a result the mpg figures are still acurate because the ECU is told about the signal. I wasn't convined about that and checked it out on a long run. My calculations (based on the fuel I put back in) were within 0.5 mpg so I am not going to argue with what it says. The manual box is so high geared economy is no worse on a motorway and I am not convinced it hasn't improved but I don't see how that would have happened. I travelled 75 miles each way to work today and got 44.3 mpg this morning and 43.1 tonight. So far (and I admit its early days yet) I can not fault the car. It feels too soft at times but if you drive harder and faster the suspension tightens ups, just the initial travel is a bit soft me. Build quality of the car is fine and much better than an early Octavia I had. The only poor point about the car is the stereo..... Mine had a Symphony with 6 cd in the boot and I hated it. Sounded like a stereo out of a Metro. I replaced it with a Blaupunkt satnav unit and now I love it. Was going to change the speakers but they are actually pretty good but were let down by the head unit. The only scary point to the car is oil and its the same as any VW / Audi and uses their dosed oil with a property to allow the soot sensor to work. Skoda will ask nicely for
  10. I have just chipped my 2.5 TDI. Chip has been on 2 weeks now and no problems so far. Performance is very good and it feels extremely fast in any gear but especially the 1st four.... I've covered 1200 miles in it since fitting and averaged just over 40 mpg in it. Today I went to Edinburgh and back towing a trailer which was loaded with a car engine and parts on the way up but empty on the way back. Drove a 50/50 split between motorway and A roads at speeds of 70+ mph most of the time, averaged 41 mpg for the trip. I would definitely look at the 2.5 if you drive on motorways a lot. The 1.9 has not got the same character, grunt or flexibility of the bigger diesel. To get fuel economy below 37 mpg you need to drive only in town OR only use 1st to 4th and ignore the last 2 cogs in the box.
  11. I recently bought a 2.5. I don't think that there is a comparison between it and a 130PD. So much more relaxed and much smoother. I comute 40 miles each way to and from work and get between 41 and 43 mpg on each trip. It is mostly motorway but it sits between 80 and 90 mph all of the time. On a run from Manchester to Edinburgh and back it averaged 46 mpg. That was going up the A1 at between 80 and 90 mph and coming back down the A7 and M6 at much higher speeds. I know the 1.9's are more economical but they are not the same to drive. Also, as a thought.... I just fitted a diesel chip to mine. Fuel economy is down about 3-4 mpg but thats down to me driving it harder at the moment. When I've done a few business trips in it I will know better the true cost. The car however is transformed again onto a different level though. Torque at 1400rpm is incredible and you can now drive through town in 6th at 1000rpm and just accelerate away. The engine revs upto its limit at 5000rpm(ish) but does not loose any power after 3800rpm like it did. The car is now a hooligan dressed as a vicar!!! The response and power to overtake is there and its instant, if you drive a chipped one you wouldn't even look at the 1.9's or even the 2.8 petrol. The only bad thing about the chip was the fitting. Not that hard but slightly confusing instructions didn't help, it was worth the hour it took though.
  12. Thanks for the info. I don't have or particularly want sat nav in my Superb. Thought that a standard radio would fit but thought you needed an adapter to drive the ariel amplifier. Did the Sony make the car sound any better?
  13. That is disappointing to say the least... What about the stereo controls on the wheel. Anything still use them?
  14. Just bought a Superb and as much as I love the car and the way the 2.5TDI goes, I just can not bring myself to like the stereo. Its the Symphony in an 02 car. I have to admit it does what it says. It makes a noise, plays CD's etc but the sound quality is dire compared to all cars I've had in the last 5 years (my old Octavia excluded) and it just has to go. This is my problem though... What if any stereos will fit the car and hook up to the dash display and steering controls? I don't especially want to spend a mass of cash, I just want music that doesn't sound like a cushion has been put on the speaker all the time... At the moment the only way to get anything like the right sound from it is to remove loads of bass and add lots of top end, it just has no mid range to it at all. So can it be done and if so could I afford it? I have tried looking but most posts are about Fabia and Octavia's not Superbs. Help!!!
  15. Hi, just bought a Superb 2.5 TDI and have to say that I am a total convert to Skoda now. The car is incredble to drive. Soft on a motorway but firms up nicely when thrown into corners and just flies on the straight thanks to the big diesel engine. Shame about the stereo though, it sounds like it belongs in an old Fiesta... Any suggestions on replacing it?
