  1. I think it may be due to the nature of my commute and the fact I regularly set the cruise control at 60 instead of 70+. Its nearly all motorway and its 27 miles each way. You see the numbers tumble when you run it at 70+ though! drops to 500-550 miles per tank. But yeh for a petrol its mighty impressive!!!!
  2. I'm still getting amazing mileage on my 1.2 tsi!!! Ambient temp of around 16 REALLY helps mine!! Range after topping up now says 720miles and im consistently seeing 65mpg on a long motorway run now!
  3. Ive not really experienced any of the problems in the OP but I do agree last gen Skodas wer far superior in terms of build Quality! My dad had an octy VRS 08 plate one and it was just so solid! And it included little things like puddle lights for the doors and all the little features that manufacturers dont even advertise that the rapid actually doesnt have! It's a shame really they've decided to go this way as I dont think I would realistically buy another Skoda. Theres nothing wrong with my rapid and its been 100% reliable in the 4 years i've had it. Its just a little disappointing to see you can buy a brand new car that is already a long way behind the game/competition in terms of tech, features and build quality.
  4. As long as they wer careful putting it all back together you should be ok :-). I always worry when they do such work on a turbo driven car that you end up with a boost leak as usually it involves taking off all the hoses for the turbo/intercooler!
  5. That's rather embarrassing but not unheard of. Mine was very rattley to start off with but they didnt have to replace the chain on mine they just tightened the tensioners which seems to have fixed the issue.
  6. Oh geez that sounds a nightmare! Hope you get it fixed!
  7. Yep same with mine I actually wondered if it was the wire running to the rear light? Ive still got a rattle in the seatbelt adjuster on the driver side and the rear left speaker too!! Not brilliant but I guess my car is over 3 years old now so I should expect a few rattles here and there.
  8. Another thing that HACKS me off about the VW/AUDI group! Lets get people to pay extra money to switch technology on you already had in your car!!!!! It's like with all the stuff i've switched on on mine like teardrop wipe etc... I guess a VW/Audi dealer would claim thats why the vw/audis are more money as you get extra amazing features like teardrop wipe... so.... yeh i just switched it on on my skoda for free?
  9. Oh yeh the performance is def a little better.... But fuel consumption gets worse :-(
  10. You sure its not just cas its got cold? I've lost 10-15mpg when it started getting cold? Well i've also found having the climate on 22+ kills yer economy too... and high winds.... These are all disadvantages of having a small petrol engine... For example -142 mile trip to grimsby @12 degs c with no wind = 56.6mpg - 142 mile trip back to preston @ 5 degs c and STUPID winds = 39.9mpg (Might as well buy a V8 if conditions are like this all the time) Its unlikely its your tyres if your pressures are ok.
  11. tbh the 1.2tsi is bad at starting in the cold at the best of times. it only needs a slightly weak battery not to start at all. Mine is sometimes very rough on startup and sometimes takes longer to start than usual. Ive also started getting the old loose timing chain rattle on startup for the first second or so. It's a great engine..... But it HATES the cold.
  12. Its wierd tho aint it! Cas I thought the whole ethos for the Rapid/Toledo was a car with a big boot. A lot of us will look past the cheap interior quality and rattles knowing that youve ended up with a cheap to run modern car thats also cheap to buy with a fricking huge boot! I got a wardrobe in mine the other day without having to dismantle it and it reminded me why I went for the rapid! The spaceback would certainly not have been up to the job and I would have been sat in the garage still hacking the thing to bits... And yet the spaceback gets car of the year? I dont think either of them are up to car of the year tbh!
  13. Post up some pics if you can, I know theres already some pics above but the more the better as I want to have a go but i'm still not 100% of every step! The soldering of the bar seems like a step that needed a little more flesh on it?
