  1. They do look utterly lovely. But looking at the first pic, and the profile of the wheels to tyres, my Mrs would utterly ruin those rims in a New York minute.
  2. Might not need it? Can you go straight to 308?
  3. Yep. Passenger side in front of the front wheel arch.
  4. @Cairus I love it mate - the enthusiasm, dedication and attention to detail is fantastic. The exterior work is subtle which I like too. On a side note, sorry that you have an incurable condition, and while it’s always good to have your distractions (us blokes tend to prefer that), family time is unparalleled. Your daughter’s smile is magic - make it happen whenever you can buddy.
  5. Bar-Tek seems to be a decent (if generic) source of info from a Google search. States: "Injection: Direct injection; in later Gen.3 versions in certain markets, partly combined with intake manifold injection". However, further asking Google "when did the Gen3 receive dual injection" throws up 2013 so it looks like the Superb 280's always had it; and engine code CJXA (what you're looking at) is confirmed as Dual too. Interesting side note I always thought that later DNUA engine (272bhp version with GPF) was Gen3b but it isn't. Must have just had GPF added and updated software to manage it. There doesn't seem to have been a high power version of the 3b.
  6. Are you any more specific? They basically came in a low power 220bhp FWD and high power 280bhp version AWD. The high power has had 3 different engines, the original 280 Gen3 engine without GPF, the 272 Gen3 engine with GPF, the 280 Gen4 engine with GPF. I don’t know about the FWD engine but guessing the mirror as the architecture is based around the same block. The Gen3 versions (probably what you’re looking at) had 6-speed DSGs, the DQ250, but they changed the DQ381 7speed later on; better gear ratios but a bit flakier. Then there’s hatchback or estate. Never ready anything on here about cam chain tensioners so fairly certain they’re not something to look out for. Preventive maintenance is the name of the game. The 6speed gearbox was required by Skoda for service every 40k; they changed that to 80k for the 7speed. No sense and any 7speed owner on here with fully functioning faculties has agreed they’d prefer to stick to the 40k. If AWD then the Haldex is paramount too. It needs to have oil change and the gauze inside cleaned. Should be every 2 years although it may have been 3 earlier on. Rear pads tend to wear first, as they’re used for the radar cruise control. Brake discs on the 280/272 are 340mm vented front and 310mm vented rear. All other models have 312mm vented front and 300mm solid rear.
  7. Sorry to read it was unsuccessful. Fingers crossed the garage sorts it all out for you!
  8. That's a good sign at least. Sounds like previous owner didn't service it well, but didn't drive it that hard either to compensate.
  9. Is that the clicked on installed bit? What about the Clean air Gen 3 - was that tickable? Give that a try?
  10. This is what I found; everyone bangs on about A and F, I had L. B looks just like F from the underside I think so it might be different above...or it could be different spec rubber perhaps to be tuned to the engine vibration (ie diesel v petrol etc) - check your part number to engine code to make sure you have the right one: Dogbone Mount Part Numbers
  11. My Indy said that to change the mount itself is a subframe off job to press it out and the new one in. I don't know whether they choose to and it can be done in situ though. Again that was when looking at dogbone mount inserts. And yes the part numberings are a bast. Everyone bangs on about 2 different versions, when there are technically 4 (albeit 2 look identical) so 3 different designs. I found out the hard way that I have the version that doesn't get mentioned at all. Either way, I assumed that it was all to do with the internal design and not the size/shape of the casing, seeing as they didn't appear to be engine or drivetrain specific that I could see - practically random. Even tuners just tell you to look under the car rather than advise on part number or model. For me, cracking the casing feels potentially more like technique; in that case, it would be more about Youtube and finding how-to guides with all the tricks and tips being narrated.
  12. Or is there a long-coding option to tick to state that the associated hardware is there?
  13. Thanks @Cairus - really interesting. So far it was serviced at 18months at 12k miles, then 2 years later which has amounted to another 12k miles. It’s due again this September and the mileage will be about 37k by then so just over 12k miles. Autoscan - I can get a VCDS scan of it to you? I’m not absolutely dead set on doing it, if it can’t be done then I’m ok with that. I just sometimes get a little front wheel slip pulling away more enthusiastically and if I could dial that out it would be great. I like the idea of switchable modes so it’s not working all the time (and I appreciate it can’t be more than 50:50 anyway) but it’s great to know more about it anyway!
  14. Hey @Cairus - its March 2021. Road Rage Performance do a well known plug-in software but when it plugged in and I spoke to them, he said it was a 5WA part number instead of 0CQ and that that was a Gen6 and couldn't be tuned yet. I was looking at being able to switch to a more rear-bias or have different modes depending on the driving etc.
  15. Is it that difficult to get the steering wheel straight? Tracking/alignment is about getting the wheels to point in the same direction...which means they are both adjustable. So, (oversimplifying technical terminology) if the steering wheel is 2 degrees off to the left, adjusting both front wheels to the left by 2 degrees means they're pointing in the same direction as the steering wheel right? Am I missing something by oversimplifying it? Or is it something that's as much art as science? That aside, there is definitely association between radar and steering alignment so its not a complete oversell. Best bet is get a second opinion - maybe another dealer but also a decent VAG independent with a positive reputation. Don't tell them what you've been told, just explain the situation and see if they come up with the same thing unprompted.
