  1. Where did the OP suggestt any differently? In fact it emphatically emphasised not babying the engine and giving it some stick across the speed and load range once warm. The only thing wrong with the 'motorway treatment' is it's far too gentle and tends to veer between steady speed and gear, and stop start (depening on your location in the country). Much better to take the back roads and give it some oomph.
  2. Thank you for that verbose, insightful and excellently executed rebuttal. I'm convinced.
  3. I'm not sure we can blame glass area or size. My wife's new S-Max has much more glass (and volume) than my Superb but her air con makes the car cold enough to hurt my (arthritic) hands within a couple of minutes. Meanwhile in the Superb I'm still sweating and wishing the bloody thing worked better. It does get there in the end, but efficient and very cold are two things it isn't.
  4. Oh dear. :( Hopefully we get something that works soon. It's a bit pathetic we have to rely on a hacked VW site anyway to be fair. Skoda refuse to even admit that their POI site is broken.
  5. I went @Magget but we only got there around 2pm. I didn't see an Octy but I did see a silver TSI Superb (the famous >500hp one perhaps?).
  6. Not as far as I'm aware, Tiago. Sorry. Also, apologies for the delay in replying to you. I've been rather busy and haven't been on the forum lately.
  7. Hi Laura. Thanks for pointing that out - I've no idea how that happened! I'll blame OcUK for changing the date, but really heaven only knows. I've already spoken with you on OcUK's thread - it'll be good to see you and any other Briskodans there for the next one.
  8. Absolutely. Sorry, I was trying to be brief and ended up making it confusing. In actual fact 80mph in 6th is a hair over 2,000 but nothing you can measure. As such 100mph will be just over 2,500rpm or perhaps nudging 2,750rpm.
  9. I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. I do know 80mph is 2,000rpm; 100mph is somewhere in the region between 2,500 and 3,000rpm, so hardly excessive. Many petrols will pull that or more at 70 and still be perfectly refined. @freelunch will be able to give you a more accurate number tomorrow, as he'll be driving sooner than I.
  10. Yes the Superb has XDS. The car will feel much more responsive and less wallowy if you leave it in manual mode when pressing on, especially on bendy back roads. It makes a huge difference! DCC will also be your friend here, no doubt. When you say 'rev too high' at high speeds in Europe, what exactly do you mean? The 220 revs rather lower than the 280 and several owners on here regularly go well into 3 figures in Germany in theirs without complaint. I've seen 130mph in my 220 without issues, the car is nicely mid power band and still returns mid 30s or so. Phenomenal really.
  11. Do you have the new Columbus with the on-screen touch sensitive 'buttons', or the older Columbus with physical buttons? You should be able to just go into the map settings, select POI categories, and select the cameras. They do take a while to show up on the map (usually an engine restart or two) but once they're there, they stay. I have no experience of the newer Columbus, however. Be aware also, you can only select a limited number of POIs to display on the map. It's around 8, iirc. As such you'll need to only select UK cameras or EU cameras, for example. Assuming, that is, you have cameras separated by category (i.e. gatso, red light etc).
  12. Welcome to the forum, @Nuttymonk The text file you need is the only one linked (as far as I recall) in the OP. Here it is, highlighted with an arrow for clarity: The guy you quoted fixed his issue in the end by trying a different USB stick and/or reformatting the stick again. As per the guide in the OP, try re-formatting the stick (i.e. wiping it completely) to FAT32, NTFS or exFAT (and try the others if one fails). Try a different stick altogether also. It sounds like your issue is the metainfo2.txt file being either missing or incorrect, however; so try fixing that first. As said, you can download the correct file in the OP (and replace the one provided by the VW site when you follow the guide). Alternatively, the contents of the correct file are enclosed in the following code tags, should you wish to make a file called metainfo2.txt of your own. As you can see, there's nothing about French or Swiss in it, so it would appear you've not got the correct files on the drive. That would explain the failure to update. ################################################################################# # # This is the description file for the Software Update of Volkswagen components # ################################################################################# [common] Vendor = "Volkswagen" Variant = "FM?-H-*-*-*" Variant2 = "17206" Variant3 = "17207" Variant4 = "37206" Variant5 = "37207" Variant6 = "47203" Variant7 = "47204" Variant8 = "17216" Variant9 = "17217" Variant10 = "37212" Variant11 = "37213" Variant12 = "47208" Variant13 = "47209" Variant14 = "17212" Variant15 = "37208" Variant16 = "47205" Variant17 = "17222" Variant18 = "47210" Variant19 = "17224" Variant20 = "37214" Variant21 = "17210" Variant22 = "17220" Variant23 = "17245" Variant24 = "17246" Variant25 = "17250" Variant26 = "17251" Region = "Europe" Region2 = "RoW" Region3 = "USA" MetafileChecksum = "b20f614100bc7a34e2c33426b500eaa3c45d2aa5" [common_Release_1] Name = "MIB 2 High Personal POI" Path = "./PersonalPOI/MIB2HIGH" Variant = "FM?-H-*-*-*" Region = "Europe" Region2 = "RoW" Region3 = "USA" [common_Release_2] Name = "MIB 2 Standard Delphi Personal POI" Path = "./PersonalPOI/MIB2DE" Variant = "17245" Variant2 = "17246" Variant3 = "17250" Variant4 = "17251" Region = "Europe" Region2 = "RoW" Region3 = "USA" [common_Release_3] Name = "MIB 2 Standard TechniSat Personal POI" Path = "./PersonalPOI/MIB2TSD" Variant = "17206" Variant2 = "17207" Variant3 = "37206" Variant4 = "37207" Variant5 = "47203" Variant6 = "47204" Variant7 = "17216" Variant8 = "17217" Variant9 = "37212" Variant10 = "37213" Variant11 = "47208" Variant12 = "47209" Variant13 = "17212" Variant14 = "37208" Variant15 = "47205" Variant16 = "17222" Variant17 = "47210" Variant18 = "17224" Variant19 = "37214" Variant20 = "17210" Variant21 = "17220" Region = "Europe" Region2 = "RoW" Region3 = "USA" [Signature] signature1 = "9880af1b5d5456de15affd708b3b74b2" signature2 = "3cf0dbe1d0baf902e43229a07cfb9281" signature3 = "3c76dea04775d174ac4f937445ae538b" signature4 = "84d056d12279144f13341a7ccec3a7a2" signature5 = "39120b41cbf137351aa6a08c732b3521" signature6 = "5a224666234d8700e6c46bf2a943452c" signature7 = "b06daa662fc8d9a1aee981c0a5df7c1a" signature8 = "4bcd566ead66604069d58ab0a9f77d14"
  13. @TonyTonic What car/engine are you coming from? Whether a car 'feels' thirsty is a matter of great subjectivity. I'd been used to diesels mostly, and the 220 was a bit of a culture shock. That said I soon adjusted and realised how remarkably economical it actually is, especially considering 'what' it is. @Sagalout has it exactly right. It's thirsty compared to a diesel until it warms up, but after that it will seemingly take all the heavy driving, overtaking, spirited back roads and whatnot that you can throw at it, and the MPG just stays where it is - or even goes up! Mid 30s overall, early to mid 40s on a run (more if you're very careful) and 20s on a cold engine with a short urban stop/start journey are about right. Everyone's driving (and driving conditions) are different but that's a good guideline I'd say, and broadly agrees with Sagalout's findings too. Drive it gently in D until the oil (not just the water) is warm, and then do as you please. You'll be fine. Even with predominantly local journeys on a cold engine, I still average 32mpg to a tank overall. When I'm driving more 'normally' (i.e. a few longer trips thrown in too) I get mid 30s or more to a tank easily and mid 40s on a motorway run. The car is smooth, refined and punch as heck when you want it to be - whether riding the low down torque for unobtrusive progress around others and taking sneaky low-key overtakes, or wringing its neck to the red line around the de-restricted country roads. Try one, and try a 280 too (if you can stretch to it the AWD is inarguably a massive advantage). I doubt you'd go back!
  14. Happy to hear you got the car and that you're enjoying it. The Columbus unit itself in the car will 'bong' on approach to cameras, if you tick the box (as per the guide I linked) for warning on approach. It's not something you can customise or change, unfortunately, but it is at least an option. The only downsides are that it will do so for cameras on both sides of the road, as Columbus doesn't support directional information (the PGPSW files have direction info in them), and the warning is a bit 'late' at faster speeds. Still time to slow down if needs be though, so don't worry too much. Just follow the guide and you'll be fine. Enjoy the car mate.
  15. For the size of the car I do agree with him, especially for us with larger petrols. My second car ever was a Peugeot 405 with a 90 litre tank, and that was a diesel! If you want to drive from Newcastle to the Nurburgring or Southern Italy, a Fiesta sized petrol tank isn’t really great. In practice though, Superbs are decent enough on fuel and certainly my bladder won’t go more than 500 miles without a pee. If it was returning 20mpg it’d be much more of an issue.
