  1. It's the time of year. Mine does the same some days. A low sun is not as bright and a blue sky is not as bright for the sensor as a white cloudy sky. My last car ( Vauxhall) pretty much the same. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
  2. I also paid £450 at Derby Towbars for an excellent job in May 2012. The Skoda towbar prep is a waste of money. It doesn't come with the fridge cabling so the fitter will have to put that wire in anyway and have the interior sill trims off. I got a very neat job and couldn't tell that any of the interior or boot trim had been off at all. All the electrics work as they should too. And please, please, please DO NOT let a Skoda dealer anywhere near it. Car dealers have difficulty recognising towbars, let alone knowing how to fit them. Take it to a reputable towbar fitting business. It's what they do all day long and they usually know best. There are no warranty isues either in case someone tries to run that line of BS. The EU type approval regs take care of all that.
  3. As per post #157 above can anyone advise or report experience with OBC resistors. Just wondering if any pitfalls before I go this route.
  4. I forgot to post this the other day when I first saw your request. Try Skoda's own marketing photos from post #3 in the topic link below. I saw one in the flesh also before ordering but after seeing all the pics and some video as well I was already sure. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/231524-amethyst-purple-estate/ It's a great combination but get the interior plastic sill covers changed from black to ivory. Skoda changed the spec on me between order and delivery and when I complained they covered the cost of my first service making the switch cost neutral. The job was done for around £170. Towards the end of this topic http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/220923-bad-news-if-youve-ordered-ivory-leather/page-2, you'll see the result and it's well worth a (relatively) small extra cost. Simon
  5. Slightly different situation I think. These are sold as canbus compatible (albeit with a disclaimer), and I believe only the side lights in your list are ECU monitored?
  6. It didn't take long, but within weeks of singing their praises I started to have problems. I've not been on the forum for a while but wanted to let others (especially artichoke273 and jpalo) know of my recent experience with the Alltronix LEDs I fitted in Sep12. I ordered these...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-Q5-382-1156-BA15S-LED-REVERSE-BULB-9-5W-450-LUMENS-BRIGHTEST-AVAILABLE-/330720882406?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160. Sorry if this get a little long but it may help others. And I need a bit of further advice as well. It was possibly the end of March, possibly when we had all that snow, 'cos I remember it being bleedin' cold, that I got my first bulb error warning. True enough, no reflection from the car in front's bumper, and my left DRL is not lit. This happened a number of times...some days it would work and others it wouldn't and then it stopped working for good (or so it seemed), and finally I got fed up looking like a berk with 1 light out so put the original incandescent bulbs back in. I emailed Alltronix in May but he replied he'd have to see the bulb to test before any further discussion. Fair enough and last week I was in the north Nottinghamshire area and made a small detour to Worksop to see Alltronix before the 12 month warranty on the bulbs expired. Imagine my surprise and frustration when he plugged it in to his test rig and it lit immediately. Well, that's annoying, reminding myself of all the times I'd taken a car to the garage with some vague intermittent fault that I couldn't demonstrate as the damned machine would not display the symptoms at the appropriate time. John, his name was, and I was annoyed but it’s not his fault. He can’t do anything if there’s no obvious fault and although he mixed up the good and ‘bad’ bulbs they both worked in his test apparatus. Before setting off I though I’d refit the LEDs to prove to myself that I wasn’t making stuff up. 5 minutes later with both fitted, switched the ignition on and Hey Presto, no errors. Funny? Ran around to the front of the car…both LEDs are lit. Now I’m confused. Ring any bells, Artichoke273? It was a short drive to the next stop waiting for bulb errors. No errors. Spent 2-3 hours in Bolsover. Then a 40 minute drive back to Ilkeston with no bulb errors. Stopped at Tesco and then it started again and the ‘bad’ bulb has not lit since. Not in the car, that is. It got me thinking. Perhaps these bulbs are not actually canbus compatible but sometimes they work anyway. Mine worked perfectly for 6 months before the first problem. One of them still works with no errors. I wondered if there was something in the bulb or the car electronics that actually prevented the bulb from lighting if the car THOUGHT there was a problem. £3.50 later, I have my own fused test rig that I can plug into the 12V supply in my caravan that’s still sitting on the drive. No fancy electronics…just a bog standard 12V DC supply. Plug it in and…BINGO, the bulb works. Take the bulb out and put it back in the car and it doesn’t work. Back into the van and it works. I left it the van today whilst doing some other things and a couple of hours later it was still lit. So the bulb appears to be ok but it won’t work anymore in the car. Whilst I was messing around I bunged a multi-meter in the circuit and it was drawing just 0.39A. So with my caravan battery meter showing 12.5V, the LED is taking just under 5W of power. It seems that artichoke273 and others may have a similar issue and maybe their bulbs are not completely dead but don’t always want to come back to life. It seems I may have to fit some resistors after all, but will this work? I’m certainly not going to start chopping or swapping wires so need a plug and play solution. I have seen some of these on ebay etc but can anyone advise what will work and what’s good value etc. I see Alltronix also have one at £6.99 each which seems like a good price. See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1156-382-OBC-RESISTOR-FIX-LEAD-LED-382-P21W-FITMENT-BULBS-/330984645671?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d1038e427#ht_2034wt_1141 Any advice, anyone? Cheers Simon
  7. Why bother re-mapping? The 170 has loads of power. I have a 170 DSG estate and tow a 1500kg Lunar and with 4 in the car (and none of us are lightweights), a full boot and 3 bikes on the roof. We are legal and within the gross train weight but there's not much left of the available total car weight. It pulls like a dream and is the best tow-car I've had. The DSG is just brilliant. Just done 3 weeks in Kent this August and got 26mpg both ways.
  8. I've had the Alltronix LEDs in and running since last Sept. No errors...no resistors...no messing about with wires etc. I just fitted the bulbs and they've worked perfectly since (MY12 Elegance estate). Of course I'll probably have a problem the next I go anywhere now I've said this?!
  9. I assume it's a brand new car? If so it's not your problem...the dealer screwed up. They registered the car so get them to fix it.
  10. How about an ipad or Android tablet with 3G mobile connection either direct or through your mobile personal hotspot. Stream TV off the iplayer or Sky Go or Virgin TV Anywhere or for freeview channels see http://www.tvcatchup.com/. ipad works great for all of these...not sure about Android.
  11. Not Spielberg...Hammer House of Horror I think? Definitely THE most revolting piece of car "design" I have ever seen...possibly from Detroit? They wouldn't get any of my money!
  12. You're all bonkers. Turn around and find anogther way. Do you really want to risk ruining your car for the sake of a detour?
  13. Sounds like the service interval display...check your manual. You should be able to check it on the menus in the MFD if fitted. Doesn't sound as though the car is old enough but can't think what else the spanner is for.
  14. Agree...it's the one thing on the Superb that doesn't make any sense to me. All my other cars that have head heated mirrors have had the switch integrated with the rear demist, which to me, makes perfect sense for rearward vision. Problem is if I want to demist the mirror because I'm reversing then the passenger door mirror will not tilt down 'cos it has to be in the 'L' position for that. Is it me?
