I tried the electrical spray and it made it worse initially before settling back to being intermittent. I took the hazard fuse out and that made no difference but the noise stopped when I removed the indicator fuse. Looks like a new indicator stalk, £50 from skoda garage. What slightly puzzles me is that if there is a contact fault in the stalk, causing the clicker to sound, why aren't the indicator lights also flickering?

Forgot to add, if I change the oil myself will the car stop hassling me for a service when I switch on the ignition or does it need to be plugged into a computer diagnostic thing to be reset? Would like to keep it as variable if poss.

Just read through all the posts, phew! With variable service setup how does the car monitor this? Is there some sensor in the oil filter or does it just compare something like mileage and mpg (giving a crude indication of how hard the car has been driven). Also is there much difference between Halfords and Mobil oils? Got some Halfords 5W/30 fully synthetic 507.00 for my octavia VRS mk1 '05. Is this all good in the hood for variable service? Got the indicator relay replaced but it didn't fix the problem. Garage says that it's probably a connection fault on the indicator stalk. I'm going to get a quote for getting a new one fitted. If it's loads then I'll sort it out myself. Just to recap, the noise is exactly the same as that of the indicators, just sporadic. I'm guessing there's some kind of speaker to produce the clicking noise when you indicate. I think it's the signal to this that is dodgy as otherwise the indicator lights would be going on with the noise, which they aren't. I'll keep you updated on my progress...

Hi mate, I've got the same problem, sounds like an intermittent indicator noise when nothings on. Bloke in garage, and several google search results, seem to point towards a dodgy indicator relay. I'm getting mine replaced on Friday so will let you know if this fixes the problem.
