  1. Give it a blimmin good tug and it does pop off. I recently did this to cure a rattle i was getting between the cover gaitor and the lower console. Dave
  2. Throwing a spanner in, but does the grille really look better painted body colour rather than chrome? suppose its a taste thing but seems a fair expense to not necessarily improve the looks over standard..............yep........maybe iam finally getting old!! :-)
  3. Think its been mentioned already, but in truth it does sound like the crank position sensor as heat affects them when they are on the way out. (cold all ok, warm hot: running issues + non start) hope this helps.
  4. Kwik Fit quoted our admin girl £400 to replace the rear shoes on her Peugeot 306!!!! as apparently they were in sufficient.....turned out they needed adjusting up and the handbrake cable tightening....cost from my students....naff all.
  5. The new grille is far better than the old one(looked a bit naff to me). A nicely executed job with the carbon fibre.
  6. unfortunately it is that old saying of how long is a piece of string! It will vary on the quality of the parts fitted and the labour cost of the fitting centre. Maybe at a guess, between £250 and £500ish......best to get a couple of quotes.

  8. The discs HAVE to be replaced as axle pairs, along with new pads so that they can bed in as an entity.
  9. I would be absolutely certain that it is the sensor as you could be wasting your money. A cheap (free) tip to try first (may or may not work but being free whats the harm!) Disconnect and remove the battery negative terminal (make sure you know your radio code etc) Unbolt the other end of the negative terminal where it meets the bulkhead (it should only be a few inches long) Clean/sandpaper or whatever the metal terminal ends and the battery negative post itself. Clean the positive battery terminal and post as well whilst you are at it. Refit, and see if the power steering light goes out. (some people buy a new earth lead to the battery for about £10) but being tight I did the above and now the electric steering pump gets the full current it requires!.

Thanks, Irony is I teach (and currently am on this topic) motor vehicle students how to diagnose faults and to look at the obvious things first like fuses, but even I missed the hairline fracture. The brand new equipment we have just had delivered is from a company called called TEXA and that was the code it spat out. I think it should have been 00301. Interestingly the steering angle sensor fault it picked up turned out to be a dodgy earth lead, mind you, it's been a great car for the students to practice on, Different fault every week!
  12. Well knock me down with a feather!!!! Thankyou so much for you inadvertant help. I tapped in the error code 301 thinking it strange that you were unaware of the code and it led me back to this forum and a thread about a blown ABS feed fuse on top of the battery box. Using my phone torchey thingey in the dark I check my fuse 6 and it has a hairline crack in it ! . Off to the dealer tomorrow to get a replacement and hope it is a corroded weak fuse and not soething more sinister that blew it in first place. could be a few hundred quid saved though so thankyou once again. Thread reposted below Same fault code read using VAG-COM, same solution for Fabia 1.4 16V 2000 W reg! Awesome tips. Had been quoted ~�500 for ABS Hydraulic Pump and ~�500 for Control Unit and ~�150 for labour by two Skoda dealers. Also this has possibly resolved a problem with the alarm going off at random - fingers crossed! (When I reconnected the battery with this new fuse in place it triggered the alarm but since then (<1 day) it has not given a false alarm, whereas usually this would be several times a day.) Got the replacement 40A strip fuse (for position 6 in battery fuse / junction box) from VW dealer (as used on Mk IV Golf) - cost = �2.50! Pics below.   14. Hi, Does anyone know a good place to get a replacement (used or refirb) ABS unit as my Recovery pump is Kaput! Do the codes (pump and ecu) have to be exact or can later models be used? i.e 6Q0 614 417D ....E.....F....ETC ETC
