They actually wanted to name it Lauretta, but the bashing it got through Internet and Media made them change their mind at the last moment. Octavia is called Laura in India.

dkaile, Nice to see you here. Indian Rapid is slightly different looking version of VW Vento, which actually is a VW Polo with a boot and longer wheelbase. So Rapid = VW Polo with a boot.

Hi, my regards to all the members of this wonderful forum! I am Anshuman Bishnoi from India. I have been following this wonderful forum for years now, i registered years back but i never posted, finally i am ready to join you guys in discussion. I drive a Skoda Laura(that's what your Octavia is called here) in India. I have the facelifted version with 2.0 CR TDI engine mated to DSG 'box. I have done close to 30,000kms in a little more than a year. This is one of the best cars i have owned till date.
