  1. Suddenly cannot open the driver side door from the inside Only way of getting out is by opening and closing window / using outside door handle I'm assuming a mechanical part has failed inside the door itself but would be grateful for any advice if someone has encountered this
  2. Battery changed, no difference. Red light on fob flashes but squat in terms of locking/unlocking car
  3. That's not bad advice. So what your saying is the red light on fob could still flash but not enough juice in battery to unlock/lock the car?
  4. Would be grateful for any advice: Remote key fob flashes when pressed but doesn't lock the car. I'm assuming the battery is ok if its making the red led flash? I've tried 'pairing' the fob as per the simple procedure in owner manual but doesn't make any difference Car has to be locked/unlocked manually by inserting key in door lock. When locked a small red light starts flashing at the top of the door I don't want to have to pay Skoda £69 to find out what the issue is. I'd rather try and narrow down the problem if I can so I can make a call on whether it's worth the outlay to get it sorted or we just go on locking and unlock the car manually!
  5. Thanks for the replies. I did bugger about with a jubilee clip for some time but just couldn't get it on tight enough to make any difference I've gone with wrapping enough insulation tape around the stick so that when you put the gear knob on, the plastic four pronged attachment is pushed over the 'lump' of the insulation tape so it holds better Next up is trying to sort my remote locking. Remote key fob flashes when pressed but doesn't lock the car. I'm assuming the battery is ok if its making the led flash and I've tried pairing as per the owner manual but no success. 6. This post is just what I've been looking for My gear knob is slightly loose and I can't tighten it up as it appears the jubilee type clip holding the knob to the 'toothed' section of the lever has just loosened over time What is my best option - try to get a genuine replacement clip or tie wrap it? The objective is not to have the gear knob move at all from side to side when you are changing gear
  7. I'm grateful for all the replies. The consensus seems to be that £2K is having a giraffe though I do note classic's comment that £2k is reasonable? I've basically said advertise for two grand and watch those taxi drivers forming an orderly down the cul-de-sac or take my cash offer of £1200 which is market value and a little on top for goodwill
  8. Thanks, could you tell me what major problems could manifest? The car I'm considering has had replacement turbo, cam belt, and the last repair bill was about £800. I was kind of hoping the worst was out of the way If I went ahead and bought this I'd have to accept I wouldn't be able to sell it on. Although I've been told the L&K is a limited edition I don't expect it command some kind of collectors premium anytime soon!
  9. Agreed, the value of £2k is derived from sentiment and money spent on maintenance in the recent past. I'd dare say the car would probably go on to 300K mile without any problem, it has been well looked after, no doubts there However, If the Octavia did croak £2k would leave a very sour taste. I also need to view the purchase as non-sellable so need to mitigate risk
  10. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated FF, you are very right, business conducted between family members can often result in friction and fall-outs and normally I wouldn't touch with a barge pole I've had to do a soft shoe shuffle on this one after reading all of the above and have made out I've now gone lukewarm on the idea of taking it I'd always thought £1000 was a fair price so I'll offer that next time it is discussed and if it happens it happens Cheers Gents
  11. Dear All I appreciate the high mileage question has been raised before so please bear with me! A close family member is buying a new car and has offered me their 53 plate Octavia L&K 1.9 TDI Estate, details of which are as follows: 200K miles but has been owned by them from new, driven sensibly, well looked after etc In addition to being serviced properly it has had a few major repairs such as replacement turbo, timing belt etc but this doesn't overly concern as these are items that shouldn't be on my 'horizon'. I know for fact that they recently spent around £800 If I buy it, the mileage incurred going forward will be very low, literally a second utility car for missus to nip to shops etc They are asking £2000 for the car which is rigid. I know this price is way above market value but can't really go hard ball, negotiation wise due to it being a family member! I've tried to explain that the valuation of the car should be based on what the market will offer, not on money spent servicing the car etc. Their view is that 'taxi drivers would be queueing down the road to buy it if they advertised it' !!! Anyhow, it's like this, £2k and the car is mine. Is this a no-brainer ?!?! PS apologies - reposted this here as was originally posted in wrong sub-forum

  13. Hi, do you still have the alloys for sale?

If so, please contact me at [email protected] or send me a text: 07811276523. Thanks, Anthony

  14. DITTO - LOL! Remember being a little annoyed thinking why the hell has the dealer left this on! Stopped trying to yanking it off thinking i may cause myself unnecessary grief. Later found it in handbook by chance - not obvious though
  15. I can vouch for www.eurocarparts.co.uk, just bought a Bosch rear wiper for £9.84 inc shipping based on the recommendation here (much appreciated). The wiper box itself came within a large cardboard box containing small inflated plastic bags for protection
