  1. I've had it in a few weeks now and it is crazy how different it has made the car feel would recommend it to anyone
  2. Could be a number of things mate the next thing I would change is brake discs people say its only when u put your foot on the brake they vibrate but I've had it a few times while driving. Is the car lowered?
  3. Hi all I'm not after any help just thought I would give out some information on doing a 6 speed conversion as I could not find in 1 place everything I needed to know and after hours of searching and now having done the swap I can now put in 1 place everything that is needed if anyone wanted to do the swap. I have a 1.8t octavia 2004 that was going through drive shafts and gearboxes and Im only running a shark performance stage 2 map. So everyone said do the swap to the 02m speed and I'm so glad I did!! So what do u need if u want to swap? 1: gearbox I got a FML from a 1.8t make sure u get the mount added bit. 2: starter motor it has a longer shaft u also need need starter bolts they are 180mm long. 3: drive shafts they are alot bigger then the 5 speed. Make sure u get the earlier shafts as they are the nut type they changed it to bolt later on. 4. Depending of the year of your car u don't need to change the linkage cables but u do need the backet that holds them to the gearbox it's a different shape u also need a bolt that holds the gearbox to the engine for this bracket as it has a thread on the end of it to bolt the plate too. 5. The power steering pipe has a different mounting point I just added 2 nuts to the bolt to move it off the gearbox it didn't need bending. 6. The clutch slave cylinder is different its built into the gearbox I had to bend my pipework to get it to the location but this was easy enough to do. 7. Clutch and flywheel I made the mistake of buy a paddle clutch cheap second hand don't get me wrong they are good but its a hard pedal judders and has an instant bitting point. The flywheel bolts are also different too if your going for a single mass or dual they are different. 8. The gearbox sandwich plate was the same as mine too so didn't need to change that. 9. There is another bolt off the 5 speed that bolts the gearbox to the engine that's to short so thats 2 in total that u need off the donor car I've left the longer bolt out atm as I didn't know about I and haven't got it. 10. 6 speed gearknob I think that is pretty much it I must say I'm so pleased with the difference the 6 speed is so much better built just looking at it, the drive shafts are bigger and better made I'm not a mechanic and I had it change in 7 hours. I must say it went so well I got my parts off different cars but the easiest way is to use the cupra r I'm sure u need before 2003 driveshafts. I just wanted to share as much info as possible to help anyone else doing this swap and my advice if u have the 5 speed is think about doing the swap it makes it feel like a better car. If anyone needs any part numbers let me know I'll try help as best I can
  4. Hi mate Im breaking the gearbox end every time and its about every 6 months ive been looking into engine spacers to raise it up hoping to put less stress on them? But i cant find an answer as to if this will solve it or not? Thanks Daniel
  5. Morning all, Im having some issuses with my octavia breaking driveshafts its on coilovers KW variant 1s and its set at the height they are shipped im not sure on the height in a measurement but its not to low and goes over humps fine. The problem i got it i keep breaking passenger side driveshafts and now im reading its because its too low?? Has anyone else had this issue? Im wondering is it best to raise the car or get engine spacers? 15mm? I would prefer not to raise the car because i like the ride height but just wanted to know if anyone else had the same issues and what you did to solve them. Loads of people do write up on issues but then never write up what they do to solve it. Thanks Daniel
  6. thanks that is the information I'm after!! money really isn't an issue the annoying thing is ive spent nearly 3 grand on 02J gearboxes I'm a bit worried to spend any more and having more problems so I'm guessing the 02M is the way to go! I don't suppose you have a reg I could use to get all the parts I need as I would rather buy most of it all brand new and the first thing they ask for is a reg for parts thanks Daniel
  7. Hi all im after some help I have a 1.8t with a shark performance stage 2 remap running about 250bhp! the problem I am having is I seem to keep breaking 02J gearboxes it is never the same problem either first time I lost 1st gear the second time I lost 3rd gear the third time the shaft come out the side of the gearbox so I got a second hand gearbox had that reconditioned and not even a 1000 miles later it started knocking really bad.. so I bought another second hand gearbox and fitted it without being reconditioned and now something around the diff area has exploded out the side.. after speaking to a few people I'm being told to fit a 02M gearbox has anyone ever done this and is it really worth me doing or is there not anything I can do to an 02J to uprate it in anyway!!!! or is the 02M is the way to go?? if it is the only option can anyone point me in the direction of where to start please!!! thanks guys Daniel
  8. Ive downloaded about 30 pics off google search but im strugling to work it out some pics look straight some look at an angle so im not sure whats right or wrong! Would you have time to measure yours from a certain point please tom so i can compare? Thanks Daniel
  9. Hi mate What do u mean looks twisted? Thanks Daniel
  10. Hi all i was wondering if anyone can help me i have vibratechniques engine mounts but my engine is starting to look like its dropped on the gearbox side. Can anyone show me a pic of there engine bay or clarify if this angle is normal. Thanks Daniel
  11. It was down to a mechanic not putting enough oil in the gearbox the bearings over heated an come out the side NOT HAPPY £2500 later and it's still not fixed I've noticed the exhaust is causing the problem it's hitting the steering rack so I went and got 2 brand new engine mounts vibratech ones and no change it never hit the steering rack before so what else could be causing it?? The dogbone it's going down at an angel and when I undo it the exhaust moves away from the steering rack. Why could this be? I've turn the dog mount round an it's even worse. I'm out of ideas and don't wanna spend any more money until someone can tell me 100% what is wrong. I was told engine spacers but why should it need spacing if it never hit in the first place?? Please help
  12. Yeah the company I got the clutch off has said there is no was your could warp there flywheel and the bit of blue is normal I've checked drive shafts exhaust the gearbox was sent to another company who have said its all fine. I'm running out of ideas I'm tempted to put the dual mass back and see what happens but it's a lot more money for it not to cure my problem
  13. Yeah I used the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch kit from darkside no the slave cylinder wasn't changed did it need to be? Thanks
  14. Thanks for your reply it's had no abuse at all it's only done about 40 miles but it's gone a bit blue which doesn't make sense because it hasn't been driven hard. What are the symptoms of a warped flywheel? It vibrates really bad in all gears except reverse?
  15. Hi everyone I could really do with some help I've been to 2 different garages and I'm still getting nowhere but spending to much money!! I fitted a recon gearbox and single mass flywheel convertion to my 1.8T Octavia because the layshaft came out the side of my gearbox. I got it all fitted an wasn't to happy with the gearbox it sounded really bad so I got it taken out an sent to a different gearbox specialist who changed the shimes and bearings. The clutch had only been in for 3 days after we took the gearbox back off but the flywheel was blue I've now got a very bad vibrations through all the gears except reverse I'm guessing it's the flywheel but I'm reluctant to spend any more money as its only a week old!!! The car wasn't driven hard so how could it go blue? Has anyone had the same problem? And is it possible for a flywheel to warp?? Is there anything I can do to test it without taking the gearbox off?
