I see that Lidl are offering a dashcam for £39.99 this Thursday. It looks different to the one that was on sale last year. Was thinking of getting one for the rear. Anyone know anything about them please? Cheers. Denis

I miss the torque of the diesel but I prefer the way the petrol drives round bends. You do have to change the way you drive depending on the engine but I do like the wider rev range of the petrol. The diesel is more forgiving when pulling away, the petrol is easier to stall! When idling, I could hear the engine in the diesel, the petrol is quieter. All things considered I think I prefer the petrol. Denis

I agree. They do drive differently, the diesel is 30kg heavier and I notice it mostly when driving round bends. All things considered I think I prefer the petrol as it has a wider rev range but I do miss the torque of the diesel engine. Denis

If it hadn't been for the DPF issues I wouldn't have considered getting rid of the diesel. But I had to bite-the-bullet and change it. I have the original DPF assembly taken off the car. I've not taken it apart but I can see that the actuator rod has some carbon (I think) adhering to it, so I suppose this must stop it moving as it should. Yes, we were fortunate that we had the money available to do the exchange, I do miss the Climatronic though! Denis

Having had this car for a couple of months now I thought I'd give a quick update to say how pleased I am with it. I'm amazed at the poke it has from its 1.2 litre engine, it goes really well and it feels better than the diesel did. It doesn't skip round irregular-surfaced bends, I don't know if that's down to the tyres or not. Another thing that is better is that the panoramic roof blinds now have a positive stop to hold them in place when closed, the other ones used to slowly open when the car was being driven. I'm glad I've changed! Denis

I've just traded in our 2010 SE 1.6 TDi CR 105Ps for a 2014 SE 1.2 TSi 105Ps because my wife was not doing the miles required of a diesel. I think they're great cars in all respects. Performance, handling, comfort and load carrying capability are brilliant! Great value for money too! Denis

I specifically requested not to have my windscreen washer fluid topped up at the last service as I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself and there's always fluid in the reservoir. I was then told why I should use Skoda washer fluid by the Skoda lady, eg one of our customer's ended up with fluid in his boot because he continued to operate the switch when nothing was coming out. The fluid had frozen in the pipe it blew at a joint. I said that he probably had the incorrect mix of fluid in the reservoir. When I said I used Halfords windscreen washer fluid she was quite sniffy about it! I use oil that meets the VW spec but I don't think there's any need to worry about washer fluid! Denis

I had Climatronic on the previous Roomster, standard A/C on the new one. Just got to put up with it and think how much money I've saved buying a 5 month-old, ex-demo petrol with under 70 miles on the clock. Denis

EGR/DPF replaced and I've traded it in for a 1.2 TSi 105PS which I picked up today. It's an ex-demonstrator, first registered in July with 70 miles on the clock now. Different engine, same power, but I have to say the petrol drives better than the diesel. I've been over one particular piece of road which has a gentle bend with a slight downhill gradient and an uneven surface. The backend of the diesel used to noticeably skip sideways over this part, the petrol doesn't. Whether it's the tyres I don't know. IIRC the diesel had Hankooks the Petrol has Continentals. Denis

I said EGR Sensor when I should have said EGR. The whole thing was replaced, £654 in total. I had a look at their demonstration 1.2 TSi 105PS petrol while I was at the garage. It was registered in July and has done under 60 miles. It's Jungle Green! Took it out for a drive yesterday and have chopped our diesel in for it. We got £6000 for ours and have to pay £6700. Virtually the same spec as the diesel apart from not having Climatronic a/c and no front fog lights. However it has got ESC and silver roofbars. If I'd got a similar specification new one they would have given me £500 less for ours and it would have cost us an additional £2100 and 12 weeks wait. I pick it up on Wednesday. The reason I got the diesel in the first place was because I was getting 55mpg from my '99 Octavia. I didn't realize what a difference the DPF would make! Still you learn by your mistakes! Cheers. If I'd known about DPFs and EGRs I would have bought a petrol Roomster in 2010 when we got ours. It's now in the garage having a replacement EGR valve fitted circa £700. It's only done 17000 in 4 years. Now I'm umming and ahhing whether to chop it in for a petrol Roomster. Denis

I've got no enthusiasm for working on modern cars ChrisTids, too complicated for my liking. Working on my 1963 Triumph Vitesse 6 Convertible is a different thing altogether! Denis

I've started another post regarding the flashing glow-plug light and it's not the DPF light that's flashing, it's the engine managment and the car was in limp mode! The garage have told me I need the EGR Sensor replacing at a cost of arond £700! That is going to be done and then I'm going to get rid of it and get a petrol engined car. Amazing how quickly you can go off something isn't it! I just need to find out if it's going to be worth the effort to sell it privately or trade it in. Denis
