  1. Apart from the one service in 3 years and 18k miles I didn't put in any oil.
  2. Hi Andy, Thanks for providing your experience since delivery of your Kodiaq. As always you provide a genuine report of both the good and bad and for my benefit the engine performance. Have you posted any pics like you did 3 years ago in dimly lit supermarket covered car parks ? Since communicating with you earlier I have taken a major decision with regard to my next car. Until recently my first choice was the 2.0TSi KODIAQ as you have purchased but with very little discount being offered either direct with dealerships and the likes of CARWOW I have decided to buy a VW TIGUAN (shock horror !). The best discount through CARWOW for the KODIAQ was less than £1,000 so still about £32,000 with a few added options. I was surprised to find out that CARWOW were able to obtain a good discount on the current VW TIGUAN SEL 2.0TSi DSG AWD so that with an additional £1,500 manufacturer deposit contribution for PCP a total discount of £4,500 has been achieved for a net cost of £29,300 which calculates to a 13.3% discount. The specs for the two cars are similar but the only compromise of significance I have made is that the TIGUAN is about 9 inches shorter so less boot space but very similar bells and whistles. The good thing is that performance should be similar to your car with the 2.0TSi DSG petrol engine so I will have to see how that compares with my Octavia which had the 1.8TSI DSG petrol engine. I am now at the same stage as three years ago with my car placed with the factory and waiting for a build date and a hopeful end of November delivery. After two SKODA cars I can say that I have been very happy apart from the DPF problems on my Superb. The Octavia has been a dream to drive and unexpectedly I have sold it already privately through Autotrader at a price 28% higher than the VW dealer trade in price. Only downside is I have to be kind to my wife to borrow her JUKE for the next couple of months.
  3. Just to respond to MrGrump and TheRobinK my current car is an Oct3 L&K with a 1.8 TSI engine so not a Vrs and that is the reason for requiring to compare the two engines. Also as advised by TheRobinK I do not want a 7 seater so very pleased when SKODA added the 5 seat versions. In terms of the 5 seat SEL and Edition does anybody know why it is not possible to have a raised floor whereas it is available in the 7 seat versions.
  4. Hello once again ! I seem to have got into the habit of changing my cars every three years so no surprise that I'm looking for the next adventure over the next 4/5 months. I have found it hard to fault the O3 L&K version (plus a few tasty extras) so with a mileage of only 17000 miles it is hardly run in ! Like you I had to wait a long while for delivery so I will need to make a decision pretty soon as to what make and model of car I will order. The Kodiaq has always been on my mind since the concept car was first seen and now in the flesh it is a hard car to beat and is my benchmark for other contenders. My requirements are very simple in that it must be a 5 seat petrol driven SUV with a good turn of speed and a boot to match the O3 estate so that our golf clubs fit easily across the back without the need for rear seats down. Oh, and it must have all of the current goodies just like the O3 L&K and fit into the garage. I don't think that is too much to ask for do you !! I have already eliminated the VW Tiguan, Audi Q3 and Rav4 Hybrid due to lack of boot space and price. Others I have looked at only have a diesel engine or very poor performance and these are the Ford Kuga , Ford Edge, Mitsubishi Outlander and Vovo XC60 (too expensive). I have not tried a Seat Alteca but there is no dealer close to us and I think it would fall down on the space criteria. I must say that the Karoq could be a contender as well but once again looks a similar size to Tiguan and Alteca. I will look forward to your postings by which time I might need to make a decision once I know current delivery times so good luck with your adventure.
  5. Thinking of changing my Octavia Estate L&K for the Kodiaq Edition so wonder what I can expect from the 2.0 TSI in the Kodiaq compared with the 1.8 TSI in my Octavia which is such a willing engine and so quiet. All advice and tips will be gratefully received.
  6. Hi glosrich, Prior to having my current Octavia estate I did have the Superb hatch version with which I was very pleased. Age is now becoming something of a consideration so a Kodiak being higher is easier to get in and out. Also, the higher seating position provides a better view of traffic. In terms of size there is very little to choose between the vehicles which are very similar in length and width but the Kodiaq does have that extra height.
  7. Hi Tanneman, I understand the reason for the Octavia having the raised floor which to me is good design and provides the additional almost secret space described. In the Kodiak I would not be able to store my golf clubs and other loose items out of sight and also without fear of damage.
  8. Just been to a launch view of the Kodiaq at my local Skoda dealer. Why is it that even now dealers cannot provide a UK spec right hand drive vehicle to display ? Sales staff didn't have a clue what might be different for the Edition model shown to invitees. There is not even a full Kodiaq brochure so we have to make do with the flyer. Apart from the above moan the car was very impressive apart from one area which I think is disappointing unless anybody knows differently and that is there is no additional storage space under the boot floor. My Octavia estate has a very useful underboot which is about 4 inches deep and covers the entire area of the main boot floor from behind the rear seats. It is large enough for me to lay two full sets of golf clubs, obviously without the bags, and loads of other items you may want hidden from prying eyes. The Kodiaq on view was the 7 seat Edition which when all seats were up there was very little boot space in general. On the other hand when in a 2 seat configuration you could get the proverbial bus inside. I took a look at what was under the boot floor and as expected it was the well holding a space saver wheel and tools. I asked the guy who was taking the car around the country if the 5 seat version did have an underboot to which he advised that there was not one so this would be a big disappointment for me. The 5 seat configuration is only available in the S and SE specification so a load of extras would be required to bring it up to an Edition level even if that is possible. Does anybody have any different information on this topic which may be of interest. Note for moderator - Can this posting be included in the Kodiaq listings as well as the Octavia.
  9. I have a 2 year old 1.8 Tsi Octavia and due to a mistake of mine some time ago when I drained the battery flat and needed the specialist AA/VW service on recommendation I bought a RING AGM battery charger specifically needed for start/stop engines. It is a very versatile SMART charger with many functions perfect for my needs as we are currently in Spain for several weeks. Before we left home I fully charged the battery with the charger indicating 100% charge up from 60%. I then changed the setting to the long term maintenance mode where a very low charge maintains the battery to its highest level until we return. In view of your problem there is also a repair mode which may be of interest. I also bought mine from Halfords where it was priced at £82 but they price matched to an online price I obtained through Amazon so paid £72. Hope this helps.
  10. Just noticed that in the very first post by PMDC199 there is another link to the spec and pricing of the Kodiaq which does show the Kodiaq available in 2.0 TSi with 180 PS and with DSG and as well, the pricing is the same in both SKODA documents. http://www.skoda.co....default.aspx?TW Which one is correct !!!!
  11. Just looked at the flyer received from SKODA and when looking at the models available I was surprised to see that the 2.0 TSi 180 PS engine is only shown as available with 4x4 BUT no mention of DSG whereas other specs show where DSG is available. Does this mean that I would not be able to spec the 2.0 TSi with DSG ? I do not want to have a manual KODIAQ and certainly do not want a diesel with diesel particulate filter issues for low mileage driving as I had with a previous Superb. It seems that there is a 1.4 TSi with DSG with or without 4 x 4 but how does this engine with 150 PS compare with the current 1.8 TSi with 183PS which I have in my Octavia.
  12. The font of all knowledge on most topics and maps in particular is "andyvee" so search for him and you should find a direct link for the Amundsen system. It can be tricky to perform but well worth it !!
  13. Just to answer a couple of the observations I can comment as follows: It was the VW / AA technician who advised that if the KESSY key was NOT in the car it would have closed down after a while but with the key inside the vehicle it was continuing to undertake certain functions, but I know not. I am assuming whatever it was doing it eventually totally drained the battery. As mentioned in my initial post the car was not locked so I was able to unlock the bonnet using the lever on the passenger side. A further update is that following the recharge of the battery which increased to a 90% charge the battery is now showing an 80% charge after two days and just a few miles of local driving which is better than I had before. I will now use the new Stop/Start battery charger shortly to see how this works in relation to total charge.
  14. Thanks to all for the feedback and recommendations for a suitable battery charger. I have today purchased a RING RSC 612 Smart Charge battery charger which is suitable for AGM batteries and Stop/Start engines. I bought the charger from Halfords which had a shop price of £85 but with the benefit of price match I was able buy for £72.
  15. AA specialist VW Group service I had an occasion to call the AA specialist VW Group yesterday as I found my battery totally dead following a big mistake on my part. After heavy rain and a car full of very wet golf gear I put my Octavia in our garage and left it unlocked with the windows down so that the smell would not be too bad the next morning. In addition, by mistake,I also left my KESSY key inside the car but fortunately I did lock the garage. I did not realise that the battery was being discharged throughout the night, I think at the rate of 3amp per hour, mainly due to my KESSY key being inside the car. The car was totally immobilised so not even able put the car in neutral to push out of the garage and the boot lid was closed solid. I immediately put the battery on charge but the charger which was quite new was just cutting out and restarting about every 10 seconds. In view of this I called the Skoda AA service for assistance. I must say that it is a very impressive service with an experienced operator who had my car linked to a bespoke computer system for my model of car. The computer programme showed a graphical view of every part of my car which was draining power from my battery and this consisted of a series of boxes in red showing problem areas. Once the slave battery had pumped some power into my battery the engine was started and run for about an hour being monitored to see just how much power was going into my battery. The computer programme could be seen removing the red boxes as power increased. Once the battery was up to about 60% the slave equipment was disconnected with the engine still running. I was advised that the results of this process automatically go to SKODA in case a trend is found with other cars. Once the AA operator was satisfied that all was in order he had several jobs to undertake to make the car operational as before which included a process with the windows allowing them to auto close, as well as things like time, date etc settings. He also recommended that I leave the engine running for another hour and then trickle charging overnight. This morning the charge was showing 90% so well pleased. He advised that my battery charger was not really suitable for the type of battery required for the KESSY/Stop/Start operation with only a modest input of about 3 amp per hour when 13/14 amp per hour is required to bring the charge level up to near 100%. The best I ever saw for the charge was 70% before this problem. It seems that I need an AGM type of charger with the higher power input which will also allow trickle charging if the car is not used for a long period. The specialist VW group AA service is highly recommended so I did not mind having to wait a great deal longer rather than have the standard AA operator who may not have been able to undertake the thorough review specific to my car. Battery charger Can anybody recommend a battery charger which will perform well for my specific set up and at the same time able to charge a normal battery in my wife's car. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
