  1. Hello! Back to the Skoda fold having purchased a new Karoq over the summer, having sold my yeti in 2017. I live rurally in North East Scotland and the factory fitted tyres just aren't cutting it in wet, greasy or icy conditions, so frustratingly after 3500 miles am looking to change the tyres. Have looked at different options, but see little point in a 'summer'/winter mix, with wet conditions in the 'warmer' months still being a struggle. So a set of all seasons it is, and see if I can recoup a little from the OEM tyres. I had vector 4seasons on the yeti, but cross climate 2s are getting very well reviewed. Now just a question of the pain of purchase
  2. An interesting project, I've slept in my Yeti several times whilst on long European trips and due to the awkward levels of the floor with seats removed and spare wheel housing end up just reclining the front passenger seat. As far as mattresses are concerned it's worth going to a local upholsterers with the required measurements and getting some foam cut to shape and a cover made that you can remove to wash. A fitted solution that won't probably cost much more than cutting another mattress down to shape. I've known people to of done this before with bespoke seating and had really good results.
  3. I agree with gnut, some stunning roads on the west coast, went round from where I live in thurso all down the scenic coastal routes along the west coast across to skye and down to Fort William. Didn't go to Applecross, but the A832 and 896 where pretty stunning in parts. Strangely I did stay in Scourie for a night on route. For scenery the pass at GLencoe is amazing, but most of the roads up here are, I'm sure the A9 would be if you took away the trucks/ caravans and I didn't have to go on it to get anywhere...
  4. I am 6'4 and cannot sleep in the back of my Yeti, my old x-trail was perfect for this, floors folding completely, with enough room for an air bed to fit in. This days the occasional night spent in the car(usually at a rest area in Germany somewhere) involves a slighty reclined front passenger seat and lots of items covering the windows for a little privacy. The main problem in my yeti for someone shorter would be the spare wheel, when all the seats are out, perhaps with a more level surface area and folded front seats it could be done. It all depends how much comfort you want, all these add on products would have to be used an awful lot to make them value for money.
  5. I was having a conversation in my local dealers yesterday about how the facelift would effect the Yeti, it was agreed that the fogs were what made the yeti look work. The did have a rather nice Octavia 3 VRS estate in black out the front.... couldn't go back to low cars though, it would make mobility in my middle 30's more difficult!
  6. Touareg, along with the CC and Phaetons that were built there could be picked up from the VW glass factory in Dresden in a grand unveiling ceremony with covers being removed and lights and music, a true occasion. Perhaps we should petition Marie's dealers to give a similar experience on hand over(grand unveiling) in honour of her service to this forum whilst waiting!
  7. I have taken door cards off my old corsa and several older fords, but wouldn't even consider it on my Yeti! Once again the The Plumber sets a shining example of all things of Yeti mechanics. good job sir (and thanks for the advice on my friends Monte Carlo order, it has arrived in the UK this week!)
  8. I saw a red Yeti with hazard lights on at the side of the A/M20 near Folkestone on Thursday, I wanted to go to their aid, but realized I would be unable to do anything but cause an extra danger! As far as cars breaking down and not being a great advert for the type, even the best maintained car will have issues, whether due to not following manufacturers care instructions, or general user error. Motorsport go to show even a car which is cared for 24/7 will still have mechanical issues. It's only if you only see them broken down that it should affect confidence.
  9. So having been back a week and spent hours trawling back through the multiple pages of thread on the Yeti forum I thought I would write a bit of a trip report for those interested. Just over 3 weeks, 1950miles, Calais to Dunkirk, straight through Belgium and Holland into Germany, where I headed for the Harz mountains, An area where I thought a few days R & R for travels ahead would be good. Not great locations for campsites near Bad Harzburg, and limited mountain bike trails on that side of the national park, so after a couple of spa visits I moved on to Leipzig. Quite affected by the floods meaning a pain to cycle in from the campsite, but a young lively city, where I enjoyed the musical connections-lovely Bach Motette at the church, took in the history from the Napoleonic connections and more recent darker history. Then on to Dresden, worse affected by flooding(putting nearly all the campsites near the river turns out to be not so good) A beautiful city, although some what quietened by the flooding affects, loads of residents helping out and massive loads of troops about. Picks of the attractions were the Dresden military History museum; A place that concentrates on the negativity of war, started with a view over a city whose destruction still raises questions, and also the 'Glaesernemanufaktur', for those that haven't heard of it, a VW factory in the heart of the city made of glass where the Phaeton is hand built on a moving production line, 5euros for an excellent tour and a chance to mess around with a very expensive car at the end. If you want to buy one, you can watch it built over a few days and have it presented in an unveiling ceromony on site( lots of cool features, but not an interesting car for the money I think) Then to take Kasper back to his homeland by heading onto Prague, what an amazing city, spent 7 days here, wandering around in temperatures in the mid 30's, really liked the national memorial on the Hill, and wandering round the castle and parks(although again flooding was an issue) My highlight was wondering around the streets at 5 in the morning, bringing an unharassed view to amazing buildings as the sun came up. I'm also not going to complain that in some places I could buy some delicious Czech lager for under a pound a pint, compared to over 3 for a small water... I then stayed a few days in Czech with an old friend before heading on to Nuremburg. A city I have always wanted to visit, the mad historic differences between the national hysteria that led to the dark days of the 30's and 40's, to the court where those that instigated it were put on trial. I was going to go to Frankfurt on the way back, but a nasty cold meant a couple of days camping near Rudesheim as a chill out, which meant some nice cycle rides and just generally watching the massive barges and cruise boats head up and now the river. Before heading back to Calais I visited the Nurburgring, I didn't take Kasper on the track, I decided a 110 2wd Yeti full of camping gear might ruin the day of some of the insaniacs tearing round. Loads of BMW's, Audi's and Merc's with disruptive pattern camo and tape tearing round I assume testing. Highlight of the day was an ungodly screaming noise coming from over the hill for several minutes until finally a Kia sportage came tearing round the corner, tyres in agony, fair play to the nut bar driving it! How did Kasper fare, well no problems, maxidot showing 57mpg despite having a bike and roofbars on from the first stop till the last, the newly purchased wind deflectors were awesome, I found myself opening the windows when washing the windows, just to gloat at not getting soaked! Once again the rear seat were removed to shove gear in the back, so loads of load space. I had to spend several hours cleaning out the inside when I got back, unfortunately I have noticed a couple of scratches on the interior, so will be looking at ways to hide them. It will take me quite a lot of claying to get my collection of flies from across Europe off the front. Plenty of Yeti's on the road, although not so many as I would expect in Czech, where I did see about as many Skoda 130's, killing time before for an evening ferry I was able to take a close up look at the crazy rally stall for Skoda in Ypres, for some kind of rally event going on there, so many shiny bits. Can't say I saw any models of car on the road this year that took my fancy either. A nice trip, perhaps not enough relaxation as I hoped, but some amazing places visited, possibly my last European driving adventure for a while at least, with work taking me a long way from cross channel routes!
  10. I feel you have never come across my parents when the are on their summer jaunt...
  11. How exciting this thread has become whilst I have been away, the 5 pages read like a thriller! I did see a train full of Skoda's whilst in Eastern Germany/Czech somewhere, and I pretty sure of the few Yeti's I spotted there was a white one on there, you never know Marie...! The flooding has been a bit mad over there, a nightmare getting from a to b with so many bridges closed. Fingers crossed you all get your Yeti's soon, my friends Monte Carlo was being built when I was over there, don't know if she's had any updates!
  12. This makes me unusually sad. I am unhappy about this, although the boat matches your personality more than the MGB does
  13. He's a little bigger than when I saw him last summer! ^ Bern is a beautiful city, nice and compact and with bears!
  14. Today I washed my windscreen with the windows open, and I can report that there was no water intake noticed. So happy with that!
  15. Why pay anymore than the agreed Deposit until the car is in presented to you. This is not standard practice, not what you agreed and makes no sense? Am I missing something here? I keep re-reading the post and I just can't comprehend it, I know gardening in the sun is a bit silly, but seemed better than the rain!
