  1. All the fuses were fine but I spent some time cleaning the contacts as they appeared to have oxidised a bit and this seems to have cured it as the digital display is now back!
  2. Car is a 2002 model 1.4, doesnt have the matrix display just 2 small LCD panels which show the digital clock and record the mileage. Headlights are standard so I suspect the unit has now failed due to age.
  3. The 2 digital display parts for the clock & odometer on my daughters Fabia have went blank, will check the fuses when she gets home later but is there anything else this could be? If its not a fuse I assume it will be a full set of dashboard clocks that will be needed. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  4. OK now had a chance to look at this and found all the fuses were good. Located the canister solenoid valve - can this be tested in any way? I can blow through this in both directions when disconnected, one way is more restricted than the other or should it be sealed in one direction? Regarding the comments above about brimming it, the light did come on just after I refuelled (didnt deliberately brim it, just to the first click) so sounds like it is related. Is there a quick way of resetting the fault code without a scanner or is just a case of disconnecting the battery overnight? Will try getting hold of a new solenoid valve and see if this fixes it but think I might need a new carbon canister by the sound of things as the car has done 114K. thanks for all the advice, its genuinely appreciated.
  5. Thanks! Will check the fuses and locate the valve, is this a VW/Skoda only supplied part?
  6. Meant to add the car pulls well enough so doesnt appear to affect performance too much, it has a bit of a lumpy idle but that seems to be quite common for these engines.
  7. Recently bought a 2002 1.4MPI Fabia for my daughter and the engine management light has come on, car had been sitting for a while and the oil was a bit sludgy so I changed the oil and carried out a service on it. Local garage scanned the fault and said it was showing as a fault with the carbon canister valve, they reset the light but it has come on again after about 30 miles. Is this something that can be cleaned or does it need to be replaced? Is this the same as EGR valve I have read on here or is that only on diesels? Any help would be appreciated as this was supposed to be an upgrade on her SEAT Arosa which she has driven for the last 2.5 years with the CEL light on!
  8. Mine fixed itself and hasnt done it since. Just take it to the dealer as it will be under warranty, take a video of it happening on a camera phone and show it to them as these type of intermittent things have a habit of not doing it when you want it to.
  9. At what milage does the engine start to free up and the MPG increase, I have done just under 3K and dont think I have seen a great improvement?
  10. On a previous SEAT Ibiza I had, I managed lose the link between the remote key and the car by pressing the button too many times while searching for my car in a dark carpark. There was a sequence to go through with the key in the ingnition to resynchronise it may be the same problem as you have stated. I am sure it was covered in the manual for the Ibiza so it may be worth checking the Skoda manual.
  11. I had exactly the same as this when I got my vRS last month, took it back to the dealer the next day who confirmed it. Stopped doing it the day before it was booked in to be looked at and hasnt happened since. Dealer says the unit is sealed so if it happens again will need replaced.
  12. I would like to thank Peugeot for the new 407 Coupe as it makes me appreciate the looks of my Pinninfarina designed 406 Coupe. I now have a Fabia VRS as I am doing 500 miles a week and the petrol bill for the 3.0 V6 was killing me, I plan to sell the 406 coupe but am tempted to keep it as I think it is one of the best looking cars in the last 10 years IMHO. I am sure the 407 is a great relaxing cruiser but there are a lot better looking coupes out there and coupes should look good.
  13. My Fabia VRS arrived last weekend and I have a big smile on my face . The only thing that may start annoying me is the drivers seat seems to creak a lot, is this normal? Car is going to the dealer on Saturday to fix the flickering rev counter and speedo needle and I will ask them to look at the seat but would like to know if this is a common problem and can I expect to get it fixed properly. thanks Par
  14. I used to have a Leon Cupra R and wouldnt recommend colour coding it as it will definately get scraped. It is quite low and I even had scrapes and scratches on the top surface because of gravel in carparks. It is quite flexible and can take quite a bit of punishment and personally I think it looks better with a few scratches on it. It is also cheap enough to treat it as a consumable. I will definately add this to my vRS when it arrives.
