  1. thing is. when one of the front suspension components go. then the others (in my cars case anyway) go quite soon after. mine needed anti roll bar, wishbones bushes a spring and a strut top mount all in the space of a month. and the cv joint done about 3 months after that
  2. car conked out at a busy round about today. wouldnt start again.i drained the battery trying. Rac bloke comes. charges up battery still not starting he says i know what this is. pulls off the airfilter box unplugs the throttle body then moves the throttle wi his finger a few times. plugs it back in and then presto hey car starts first try. He plugs the computer in and its thrown up codes for egr valve (again sigh) and throttle body. so i need to clean egr valve again and the throttle body so it doesnt stick anymore. How do i clean the throttle body? anything i shouldnt use on it? was gonna use clutch and brake cleaner its a 1.4 16v btw
  3. yay thanks to kwacka pointing out that i was looking for the wrong thing. ( it is an eyw.) i've found a couple. ranging form 270 quid delvered to 600 quid delivered.
  4. its has to be said that my fabia is the most unreliable car i've ever had. its not a bad car it just keep breaking. and i've had a 33 year old cortina and a 28 year old capri. My metro had less go wring with it. I'm kinda stuck with my fabia till i'm finished paying off some debts. Its the lowest miles and newest used car i've ever bought and only one i've ever bought from a franchised dealer. If i had bought it privately i'd have been in deep sh t cos i got lots of thing fixed on the warranty. its only done 55k its a 2000 so thats very low nowadays. so far it has one whole antiroll bar and later on the bushes. strut top mount and spring all changed at 35K dealer blamed speed bumps. rear brake caliper discs and pads were changed at 30K cos the old ones had seized The ecu stopped recognising the keys. new ecu. thank feck it was under warranty. and since the warranty ran out pretty much every fault thats common to fabias. corrode alternator wire connector. pinking cos of egr settings. rear wash. wiper fuse epc light is a dear friend now ;o) Without this webiste i'd have been seriously screwed. i got such slagging from my mates for buying a skoda. i was like its a bigger cheape polo it'll be great. i'm gonna buy a focus (kidding) anyway back on topic sorry about the rant.. any recomendations for places to rebuild my box? or is there a rebuild kit i can get and do it myself? (that'll be fun)
  5. I know my Fabia is one of the early ones.. I just thought that maybe in the newer ones the ayw was superceeded. I'll keep looking thanks for yer help guys
  6. moggytech i cant find another ayw they're like hens teeth. i would have thought that a polo .1.4 16v gearbox or an ibiza 1.4 16v gearbox would be the same, But the codes are different.
  7. I'm looking for a gearbox for my 1.416v. I cant find one with the same code. there seem to be dozens of different 1.416v gearboxes. according to the sticker in my service book. its an AYW. Anyone know if any others are compatable? i know i've put golf gear boxes in polos before so fingers crossed.
  8. after a few months of playing russian roulette with 3rd gear. ie it need nice firm decisive changes otherwise it made the most awful screeching noise. i cant get 3rd gear at all. i' been told skodas are notorious for this. and i need a new box. is there any chance it could be something cheaper and easier like the linkage?
  9. do you have an asda nearyby? the fob batteries are 4 quid for both in the asda photography section. EPC light is your fly by wire throttle. Car will have much less grunt when the epc light is on. Window sounds like the switch to me. you should get a used one quite easily.. you need a small trim piece to change the headunit for a normal one. at halfords this wpud be about 14quid from the skoda dealer they were less than 2quid when i needed one. i wouldnt have called it a hoist tho. Myabe a harness? thats for wiring but you shouldnt need one maybe need a powere wire swapped in the head units harness so the memory works. Funily enough it was a guy at halfrauds who fixed mine.
  10. dunno what the stock filter on mpi is like but theres a weight saving on the 16v cos you dont have that hulking great airbox sat ontop of the engine. if he wants more power then the best bang for buck solution is whats in the second picture. Its ot cheap tho.
  11. epc light is electronic power control. its fly by wire throttle. what the car doing exactly? is it trying to start but not catching? cos if it is or its starting but only idling then start it with acelerator pushed to the floor.. Charging the battery might help too as mine did this alot when my battery was low.
  12. well maybe its just me being picky. The splitter didnt sit level with the ground and it looked really stuck on in a chavvy way it wasnt expensive iirc its less than 20 quid so no great loss.if you get one put it on and dont like it. My VRS bumper cost £14 off the bay of E. itll need painted or black magic bumper on a red car.
  13. Being a tight bugger i bought a pipercross kit from a halfrauds clearance. i think it was for a rover something turbo. and i made it fit. my fabia's a 1.4 16v tho http://images20.fotki.com/v287/photos/8/890293/3431641/P1010002-vi.jpg gotta agree with the polishing a turd thing tho ya wee chav. do this instead http://images20.fotki.com/v287/photos/8/890293/3431641/18tfabia-vi.jpg
