  1. An nice story, Paul! I confess to a personal almost-total avoidance of DIY on the Yeti (63 plate) nowadays, and my 'next generation' have taken to EVs and roof panels (and their own 'next generation'). The AA came and replaced the (original) battery for me 18 months ago; it was a case of check old battery, remove old battery, install new battery, start engine, and finish drinking tea provided by Herself - completely hands-off throughout for me. Apart from switching engine off when AA expert had gone.

  3. Reminds me of the two-car Yeti Meet held by Vegit8 and myself on the banks of Rydal Water, back in (I think) 2012. His was the only other Yeti I saw up in the Lakes or on the journeys to and from. How times have changed!
  4. Possibly? Certainly, Paul52! Still here, with those prized 16" Moons still rolling - though with rather lower mileages nowadays. My first Yeti - the 2 ltr diesel 4x4 - was the second in our locality in 2012 (the first is still running, though moved to another area); there are now at least six In the village, and at MOT recently my current car was one of three Yetis to go through the test at the local indie that day. The AA, and then the local tyre firm, dealt with a long screw back in the summer, and a dead front fog light was fixed at MOT service (and its 12 year old pair done at the same time). I switched to E5 petrol in the summer and I'll be doing my end-of-year sums this holiday to see what difference that's made to consumption (likely an improvement). It's probable rather than possible that the Yeti will be my last car. Overall it's been my best (of thirteen), and best as a 'driver's car' - just ahead of a Triumph Herald after the magical transformation of - wow! - radial tyres. We don't ask much of her really, except to start when required and get us where we want (or need) to be. And it has been proved (on paper) that using a taxi would be far cheaper now, But it will be nice to go out on a high. But not just yet, please, I'm still enjoying it! PS I'll try to remember to dig out the old file over Christmas and perhaps try to check on all the members (were we twelve?) of the Yeti Special Build Club. I'm still in touch with a couple.

    Well, Expatman, so sorry to see you 'go' - and it says a lot that it took such a long while for you to actually get round to it! Your insightful Yeti comments, help and tips will be missed. I am sure that you will have the sincere thanks of all members of the UK16"SpecialBuildClub for helping to lead the (brief) rebellion against rubber bands. Enjoy your Countryman but, as Paul52 said, don't be a stranger here, among the Yetis!

    I'm only a few months behind you as a Yeti owner, Expatman, and also on my second too. Best car? Well, I will have been driving a Yeti for thirteen years by Christmas, compared with our Volvo 240 Estate's nine back in the eighties, and the current 1.2 DSG, if all goes well, could be my last!

  8. Mine, a couple of years ago, was a wheel speed (ABS) sensor and, yes, rather dramatic in its random comings and goings.

    Additional admin and handling costs, I suppose? Similar to restocking charge for returned goods? Some will, some might, some just won't.
  11. He's one of many in his opinion of the Yeti, but his position makes it one of note. Going off at a tangent, I've now had this Yeti longer than my previous non-Yeti (an 'original' X-Trail). The two Yetis together, at just over 11 years, now hold the ownership record over my beloved Volvo 240 Estate (quarter of a century ago) at nearly ten. Be safe!

Good ol' Trago Mills 😄 PS Just seen this: "...I admit to being a little bit fearful of the DSG failing as I realise a repair could be horrendous so I continue to treat it with utmost caution and just live in hope...." I'm beginning to think that my Yeti just might be my last car (and currently at around 43K). The thought struck me that, on that basis, the possible cost of a DSG problem (horrendous, as you say), even plus a few other bits, is still less that of 'downgrading' to a newer non-Yeti. Happy bunny!
  13. Did anyone who watched the video go on to the comments? One of our Briskoda Yeti pioneers posted a 'memory lane' reply - I'm not naming him, but other people from way back will spot it. Yeti drivers used to wave to each other in those days!
  14. Actually, only ten got the OK, and Paul52 was the lucky last one before the gate shut. We think it likely that two of the ten didn't take their orders. Expatman was the second, thus forming the UK16"SpecialBuildClub with The Plumber, who was the first to get 16" wheels ex-works.
