  1. Yes, that was the first thing I checked.
  2. Cheers! I think its the front passenger side given the noise gets louder when that wheel is loaded up, driver side seems fine, I shall see if there is any play in the shaft, If not I cannot think of any other cause.
  3. Cheers man, were there any other symptoms before you changed it? Any play in the driveshaft etc? How easy is it fitting the kit? Did you have to remove the driveshaft completely or just disconnect from the hub?
  4. Couple weeks ago my car started developing a repetitive knocking sound, it only becomes noticeable above 15mph and the knocking becomes quicker the faster you go, at motorway speeds there's a very noticeable vibration. Also when turning right at slower speeds the knocking sound becomes more noticeable and less so when turning left. This leads me to believe one of the CV joints is at fault, but I don't want to spend a load of money changing a driveshaft only for something else to be at fault, is there a way for me to test to find out for sure? Thoughts?
  5. Still enough to inundate the KFC drive-thru.. Haha
  6. Mini meet Friday afternoon in Elgin..? Last one before I go.. Haha
  7. Then decided on a colour change so out came the rattle cans.. This time Rallye green.. Brakes were colour coded too.. Standard clutch was starting to slip so last friday it went back to BroTek to get a CG motorsports custom sintered clutch kit, DMF and a new slave cylinder fitted.. Not a moment too soon aswell as the stardard DMF had about 4 times the movement that it should have, so good job it was replaced now.. Didn't get any pics unfortunatly.. Just waiting for the clutch to bed in now and I can finally start giving it the beans..
  8. Just realised how long it had been since I updated this.. So here we go.. Changed the brake fluid not long after it was serviced.. Handbrake was feeling abit naff so fitted some helper springs, suprised at the difference they made handbrake was much better afterwards.. Then with the help of a mate fitted some new disks and pads.. Disks were from brake depot, pads are EBC ultimax.. Paint in the arse to do as dont think they've been touched in years, a few seized bolts didn't want to move, blowtorch did the trick though..
  9. Right.. Been busy so only just got round to updating this.. Took of ASV, EGR valve and EGR cooler to get access to the top of the turbo to check the operation of the VNT, lever moved easy enough and sprung back so the problem was not there although you can probably see the area is covered in oil and carbon.. While removing the EGR valve was concerned to find one of the bolts on the underside was in finger tight, if you look below you can see on the valve which one was loose. And thus where it was leaking past the seal and covering everything underneath with carbon and oil fro the CCV and EGR system.. First time I've had the EGR valve off so god knows how long its been leaking for, but started the noise about 6 months ago.. Anyway, refitted it all properly and now noise has stopped.. Happy days..!
  10. Best way to check..? I thought if the vanes were sticking it would lead to it overboosting under hard acceleration and going into limp mode..? On mine it all works fine under hard acceleration.. :EDIT: Unless its possible that the mechanism is not fully closing as it should whe coming off boost..?
  11. I'm thinking with it being intermittant I may be a joint that is not fully sealing until it gets a significant amount of pressure on it.. Sounds like mine is originating somewhere near the firewall so ill have to have a scout around at some point..
  12. Recently Ive noiced a quite audible gushing sound under partial throttle as the turbo is spooling up usually between 1800-2200rpm.. Strangly when throttle/boost increases the noise stops and there is a noticeble jump in power as soon as it stops.. To me this suggests a leak from somewhere, and normally I wouldn't have bothered posting about it.. However I would have thought a leak would get worse the more boost pressure increased..? but in this case the phenomenon only occurs at low pressure and increasing it appears to resolve the issue.. Has anyone else experienced this..? or can point me towards a potential culprit..?
  13. Putting politics aside for the moment, having a UK wide system would be far better and much more logical.. Would've saved me having to explain to my high schools' senior management what my GCSEs are actually worth.. (Imagine doing your weekly shop and handing the cashier a fistful of Japanese Yen) They couldn't even work out what year I should be in, fortunately I was more familiar with the Scottish system then they were of the one I'd come from.. Although I did still end up doing a week of Intermediate 2 classes until I "reiterated" that I had already covered it and was moved up to Highers.. Can't say either system has any noticeable advantages over the other from a pupil perspective, just a different awarding body and different books.. Although I seem to remember doing more coursework for my GCSEs, than the Highers I did later although GCSEs have probably changed since then.. Now In employment I've recently had the pleasure of resitting a module of my NVQ that I was previously exempt from, all because the awarding body changed it's mind and decided my Higher had not covered all the necessary basis..
  14. Moray council is terrible for this, they also have a bad habit of doing it the day before its due to rain so the road just becomes loose gravel until enough cars have flung enough rocks to unvail the underlying road surface.. Thus making the whole practice pointless.. I parked up on a street in Lossiemouth for 5 mins after it had recently been resurfaced, set off again and it felt like the wheel was falling off so I pulled over to find a hand sized clump of tar and stones stuck to my tyre, hardly a safe practice in my mind..
  15. Cheers dude..! Its abit of a marmite colour I think, I love it but it ain't for everyone.. Car was due a service, thought Id have a crack at it myself this time, so got 5l of Castrol Edge from opie oils, oil, fuel and pollen filters from Euro Car Parts and a new sump plug from ebay. Cost me about £60 in total including delivery to the top of Scotland, and got it all done in about 2 hours.. Happy days..!
