  2. Lab government go a different way to Con party in funding roll out of chargers and cars (return of subsidies ?). Emphasis on local rather than Trunk road for chargers as we did years ago when we owned Source London)..... https://www.aol.co.uk/news/government-announces-63m-funding-ev-121238871.html The transport secretary has promised to make it “easier and cheaper” to buy electric cars, as the government announces £63m worth of funding to help build charging infrastructure. Heidi Alexander said on Sunday she wanted to make it more affordable to switch to electric vehicles as she announced new money for councils and other bodies to spend on facilities to charge cars. She announced £63m worth of funding for EV charging, with officials also finalising plans for a £700m package of subsidies to bring down the cost of buying a new electric car.......The Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government introduced the first purchase subsidies for EVs in 2011, when sales and the number of models on offer were tiny. However, the Conservatives ended the subsidies in 2022 amid concerns that the policy was expensive and mainly benefited wealthier households, in a move that was heavily criticised by carmakers.

  4. In actual fact on European cars the rear red light is a "Park" light for when you leave it in dark places. If you want more light when reversing at night simply put foot lightly on the brake. Will light up quite well. Been doing that for 60 years on cars with no reverse lights
  5. Post a pic of the unit Some are MIB2.5 which have a Sd slot in the glovebox and later ones are MIB3 which are either updated over the air in Europe or Offline updates in Australia
  6. Assuming you mean you have a 4.5 then the left and right display options are selected by pressing the right scroll wheel (one click right, second click left).
  7. If you put it in with pigtail UP and power is at the top you are running the power through the original fuse to get to the second. TO prove what i say hook it up and then pull the original one Bet the camera goes off. Dont ask how i know. Also here is a link to installing a dual camera in a golf with instructions on how to remove pillar trim. Basically applies to all VAG models as it did on my Tiguan.. Make sure you feed the wire BEHIND the airbag or you could wear it in an accident and pull the camera off screen into your face https://www.autoinstruct.com.au/manufacturer/volkswagen/mk7-golf/mk7-golf-dash-cam-install/ https://www.autoinstruct.com.au/manufacturer/volkswagen/mk7-golf/mk7-golf-a-pillar-trim-removal/ To drop govebox just push sown on little tab and it will come down as per instructions https://www.autoinstruct.com.au/manufacturer/volkswagen/mk7-golf/mk7-golf-glovebox-headunit-removal/ Autoinstruct has quite a few good guides for different models Have a look through I f you run a addafuse to a empty slot and have it the wrong way you are running it back through the original fuse to get to the second fuse to the camera Proveable by removng F1 and camera will have no power

  12. Not having Maxidot is not a problem. I did this upgrade in my mum’s poverty spec Fabia II Combi (switching from a Swing to an RNs-315 with integrated Bluetooth module). Without Maxidot you can’t get turn-by-turn in the instrument cluster, that’s all. Making the change doesn’t break anything. Making the move from a Swing to either an RNS-315 or RNS-510 (with integrated Bluetooth): you’ll need the head unit (obviously), a magnetic GPS antenna (this goes on the metal crossmember behind the dashboard) and the Skoda mic that fits inside the roof light cluster. It’s plug and play after that. Plenty of guides on here in this very sub forum. Also look in the Skoda Rapid forum, many members there (inc me) have also done the same upgrade. I can’t comment on the RCD-510.
Italy has rules (15th Nov - 15th April) about winter rated tyres, or compulsory carrying of snow chains. Not just in the mountains, but even down in south in Puglia and Calabria. Doesn't apply everywhere, but unless want to check local rules easier to comply. As Italy has a wider temperature range than UK (can get to low 40s c in summer, and below -10c in mountains in winter), think you are sensible having 2 sets, rather than all seasons. A 55c temperature range is too wide for physical properties of a tyre and will be compromised at the outer ranges. Škoda have a wheels brochure (can be ordered from parts Dept) and also a winter wheels (with tyres) brochure. But likely to be cheaper to shop around for tyres (and have more choice). https://www.skoda-auto.com/_doc/6d5c59b3-5d97-451a-ab78-2ef185e6e373 https://www.skoda-auto.com/_doc/c829936c-f0c1-48a3-bd99-55a507038e8c
  15. I have had a look at them, especialy the 510 as it is a similar style and in my opinion it looks better. what are the drawbacks of the RCD-510 as opposed to the RNS-510 or is it just the lack of navigation as i prefer google maps any ways. As my car is lacking the maxidot will this affect its functionality? This is my main reason for looking to just add bluetooth to the swing as i dont need the extra bells and whistles just the ability to play out of the car speakers without having cables everywhere. If i were to retrofit bluetooth to it what would i need and same for the radios a found a couple of tutorials but they were all for maxidot or lacked any information at all (or at least were not in english). Thank you so much for the help its greatly appreciated.
  16. if you're comparing a 1.5 to a 2.0 then performance isn't on the top of your list (I assume). All this 'power gets out of trouble' is rubbish - it gets you out of trouble until 245ps pulls you into a tree! The real reason for having a bit more power is that overtaking/pulling out becomes a little easier and, crucially, when the car is loaded, you're still able to move along happily. My 1.4 Leon FR was brilliant when empty, but put a passenger and fill the back up and she struggled a bit!
  17. That's what I thought - I had a car about 10 years ago that would give a similar error if the SD card was removed. I have checked and there's no SD card slot - and in my current car there is no SD card either and the sat nav works fine. You would have thought that in a 3 year old car if it has a Sat Nav button then there must be Sat Nav.
  18. They should - same setup as the vRS, GTI, Cupra and, until the latest models, the S3 and R. They all have 17s as the minimum size. Bear in mind in the EU, cars must have winter tyres and these tyres must be marked accordingly. If you're only interested in ticking the box, a set of 17" steelies might be what you're after - they're dirt cheap and won't suffer from corrosion.
  19. Nothing wrong with re-joining any cut wires, just make sure that you carry out the repair in manner that will mean it lasts as long as the rest of the cable form. Typically you would need to cut out a section and replace with a suitable section of new wire - unless that wire had some "slack" in it. I lengthen many wires and shortened others in the front bumper cable for my Audi S4 as the Kufatec cable lengths were not correct, no issues what so ever - that work was done by me back in 2015/2016, I just examined the original wiring, checked the C/S of the strands and the number of strands and ordered the closest but slightly "bigger" modern automotive wiring, applied heat shrink sleeving and rewrapped the cable form using proper tape.
  20. So im presented with a choice. Both are 18' and im wondering. Should i go with TE37 style rims (rotagrid drift) or XXR 527 ? Some pictures for reference. This one i saw scrolling on the forum so props to the owner. And the other i found online for the XXR's Also bonus question. Does the sidelight come with the bumper? Vrs version? Or is it custom made since im looking for it too.
  21. Is it All Seasons that are needed or actual Winter (Snow) Tyres and will the car be going where snow chains might be required like into the mountains?
  22. Years ago Motability had Mazda MX5 Automatics on their lost. I went to try one and got in and struggled to get out. Mazda must be wanting to get some manuals punted.
  23. Don’t waste your time adding just the Bluetooth unit. The Swing radio is dreadful. Remove the radio, and source either an Amundsen (RNS-315) or a Columbus (RNS-510) - both of which come in variants with an integrated Bluetooth module (and both of which are cheap because VW has stopped producing new map updates for them. Not only is this a factory-fit drop in upgrade, this approach will 1) add the missing Bluetooth capability to your car, 2) still keep it to factory specs and 3) you will be amazed how much better the audio output from both of those head units is compared to the Swing.
  24. 340mm front discs, 310mm rear. Not sure whether 17s fit over them but doubt it. Michelin Cross Climates get raved about as all seasons.

  26. Best option for all season tyres is either Michelin CrossClimate or Goodyear Vector AllSeason. Both tyres are excellent in all conditions. Don’t waste your time with any other all-season makes. Nobody comes close to these two. However, for Winter-specific tyres, my recommendation is Uniroyal Winterexpert.
  27. Hello everyone! A little update to this topic. We have had our first very warm summer days here in Finland and I remembered this temp issue that i wrote about at winter time. So yesterday it was almost +30 degree Celsius outside temperature and i was driving for about 1,5 hours with driving speed 80-120kmh most of the time. I was watching my coolant temp with OBD11 and after the car had warmed up, the coolant temp would stay between 80-85 Celsius most of the time with a maximum temp reading being 87. The temp gauge on the dash was showing 90. And the oil temp was between 95-105. I havent yet changed the thermostat or the coolant temp sensor. Both still original from the factory and the car has now 218tkm on the clock. What do you guys think? Are my temps on the cold side and is my thermostat faulty, partially stuck open perhaps?
  28. So I drove the vRS and the 1.5, the 1.5 was well specced, it was nice, but the vRS was much better. Suspension different, and obviously the power was stronger. The car I drove had been quickly sold on Cinch, so the dealer is sourcing me a car which will hopefully come in soon. Pretty much gave me what I wanted for my Mk 3 and chucked in some sweeteners, so I am waiting for the second Graphite Grey vRS to come in so I can see it and potentially get it. 🤞
