@Cairus I love it mate - the enthusiasm, dedication and attention to detail is fantastic. The exterior work is subtle which I like too. On a side note, sorry that you have an incurable condition, and while it’s always good to have your distractions (us blokes tend to prefer that), family time is unparalleled. Your daughter’s smile is magic - make it happen whenever you can buddy.

Hey there, greetings from Lithuania. Since I bought my new Skoda Karoq facelift 1.5 TSI DSG in late 2023 I had this road and booming noise a as companion in every single ride, which I thought is coming from the tyres or the suspension. However, after visiting the dealer, the outcome was that there is nothing wrong with the suspension itself and the tyres are brand new OEM Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance. I tried to put some sound and vibration deadening materials on the boot floor right below the space saver wheel - it did not work and I did not notice any improvement. However, what I have noticed, that the similar booming noise was coming from the boot electric tailgate when it was closing and contacting the metal hook at the end of closing and there was this boom noise. I added some sound deadening material on the metal hook, the tailgate started to close with a more solid sound and as a result the ride itself improved. I do not feel or hear any booming sound while driving and it really improved my driving experience. I also did notice the difference in how electric tailgate closed on 2021 year Skoda Karoq model, which my parents bought earlier and they did not face issues with the car, nor booming, their electric tailgate closes quietly, so if you experience something similar, please check your boot. Hope this solution can also help others.
  3. Hello, Many thanks for this faraz, it worked! Who would have thought you need the hazards on 🙃
  4. There have been a number of posts in the Facebook Skoda Karoq Owners Group recently related to the appearance on the infotainment screen when starting the car of a message about Data Tracking. I too have had this but it has now stopped. Then a new longer message referring to EU data protection and sharing - that was the gist I think as I didn’t take a photo and it’s no longer being displayed. I think I may have “OK d” both messages and that perhaps stopped them being displayed. Any way leading on from that I downloaded the latest version of the My Skoda App and it has new information about Consents and Permissions. Data Tracking which is tracking the way the App is used and Vehicle Data that the car transmits and is stored on VAG servers. There is a new feature to request downloads of the transmitted vehicle data that VAG store. There is a Historic Data request and Continuous data request, the later can customised to select specific data clusters and to one-off, monthly, until a specific date or non-expiring which I take to mean on a regular basis. It’s a little bit long winded to initially login into the Data Portal, to be able to request historical and continuous data, which will be provided within 24 hrs. I am waiting to see what is provided. The data dictionaries can also be downloaded. I’m assuming delivery will be by email as that’s how the data dictionary pdf was delivered. Links https://eu-data-act.drivesomethinggreater.com/content/euda/de/en/data-clusters https://eu-data-act.drivesomethinggreater.com/content/dam/datahub/pdf/data-dictionary/logged-data-dictionary/DataDictionary_V5.0_Continuous%20Data.pdf https://eu-data-act.drivesomethinggreater.com/content/dam/datahub/pdf/data-dictionary/251022_01_SVK_DataDictionary_V4.0_Historical%20Data.pdf I've not received anything yet and I've no idea what I will do with it or if I will even be able to do anything with it. I'm hoping I might be able to load into Excel, Access or My SQL database and then write some PHP or VB Macros to do something with it..........
  5. I thought I’d add a post in case it helps anyone else. I searched the forum for the file layout to import playlists on my L&K spec Columbus head unit but didn’t really find much. So a bit of digging on the interweb and found a great free utility called mp3tag. I used this to edit the id3 tags on a bunch of tracks in a folder, “selected all” and then “create a playlist” (Remove the file path c:\ bits) so it’s myplaylist.m3u and saved it in the same directory as the .mp3 files. Transferred to an SD card and imported them to the jukebox. Worked first time.
  6. @omeromeryigit Thanks for the information you shared. I followed the steps in the post one by one, and in the end my volume increasing issue was fixed. I solved the problem by cleaning the unit that the service said had to be replaced completely.
  7. So, it's about time I introduced my personal vehicle: Seat Leon 5F ST Facelift FR Year of manufacture 2017, 150 hp TSI A little about me: I'm 38 years old and from beautiful Styria, Austria. As warrior pointed out the excess oil will have been diluted by diesel. I personally would be inclined to get an oil change done as you don't know how much diesel was in oil or how much oil was removed. Surprised the garage didn't say something unless it was a small amount as I cars use oil not create it. Too much diesel can eventually lead to problems and worse case scenario it gets past the turbo seals and causes run on. Having the same problem with my mk2 1.6tdi. Used to do decent mileage but not any more. On mine it makes a slight noise during regen and revs at idle are around 1200. When it happens if I can I continue driving and take it for a decent blast in 3rd/4th to keep revs up until idle becomes normal (about 20mins). On mine a failed regen puts fans on when I turn of engine. Alasdair

I have used seller glavanesti on eBay a number of times to buy full VIN decodes (ie build specifications) for VAG cars in my family. The price is €3 and the details are provided very promptly by email.

I agree with them seizing. Had a few that were solid but managed to remove eventually. Find as well that if the bolt is seized so will the sensor. If I am replacing them I use a small smear of copper grease. Alasdair
  13. 1 point
Just a word to the wise, these love to seize up. Give them a good spray a day or two in advance and clean the bolt head up well before trying to remove it. The hole normally goes all the way through on VW group cars, so you can probably get in to spray the thread from the other side as well.
  14. Hopefully just a glitch, but still nothing again yesterday. I’ve got a longer drive later on so will keep an eye on it.

Think its M6 x 16 torx Although they were allan/hex on my octavia but may not be original. Alasdair

My personal experience with my mk3 diesel that all of this running at a certain speed, certain revs etc is not nessasary. Yes, it would take longer but would just raise the idle speed a bit and would do it sitting on the driveway happily.
  17. Don't forget the oils and tools for the job 😁 if you need any further information or assistance just send me an DM happy to help 👍

If you have the My Skoda App you can download the Digital Certificate for you vehicle, this will list the full specification including any factory ordered options, all the technical data, service history, recall work done, PDI date. etc. It gets updated every time it is worked on by any Skoda Dealer. Some snapshots from the current digi cert
  19. The story so far is,went to the local Skoda dealer but the list of issues was beyond what they were expecting so nothing was done.I then went to the supplying dealership and the car is booked in for a week this month for investigation. I have had to call Skoda assist twice as the battery was too flat to start the car, I could have used my Noco boost pack but needed it logged so left well alone. It is now plugged into my Ctek MXS all the time is isn't in use. It has been suggested that I don't drive it enough so the battery will go flat, I do about 6000 miles a year and neither my Octavia Vrs or my Kodiaq Sportline had issues with their batteries so am not going to accept that. So it's still a case of watch this space.

It's practically a certainty that your current reduced mileage and DPF issues are not a coincidence. The excess oil will have been diesel fuel from failed regens.

What he said. Even on track, I wouldn’t personally want my oil temperature to exceed 115-120, ideally. Even then, I’d be changing it far more regularly. The other consideration is the DSG cooler - while the R, S3, Cupra come with one (and the Superb 280, yes @travs) anything less than that misses out. It’s another common upgrade. My apologies - I’ve only just realised you aren’t UK based. I would still reach out to Darkside directly, as they’re still likely to offer you some help. I know a few people with tuned TDI vRS’, some of which take them on track. Let me reach out to them and see if anyone has done something with the oil cooler. Alternatively, I know there are several diesels on the MQB Track Cars group (FB and Insta).
  23. If it's a 2.0 TDI engine it will be a wet clutch dsg box. The dry clutch boxes were only fitted to the lower powered 1.4 petrol and 1.6 TDI in the facelift cars from around 2010 onwards
  24. We'll have to find @pcbbc in his normal habitat https://www.ttforum.co.uk/threads/fixed-rds-tmc-no-longer-working-in-uk.2032197/?nested_view=1 They are not onto it over there. Either a passing technical problem or the powers that be have decided to close the service down via Classic FM.
  25. Found but not yet verified; "Germany is paying households to charge their EVs at night — and using 4 million car batteries as a single giant grid storage asset. The concept is called Vehicle-to-Grid, and Germany is deploying it at a scale that makes every previous trial look like a proof of concept. Under Germany's amended Energy Industry Act, EV owners can register their vehicle's battery as a grid asset — allowing the grid operator to draw power from the car during peak demand periods and charge it during surplus periods, automatically, without driver involvement. In exchange, the owner receives payments that offset a significant portion of their electricity costs. Volkswagen's bidirectional charging system — deployed across its ID. series vehicles from 2023 — supports up to 11 kilowatts of Vehicle-to-Grid discharge. A single ID.4 with a 77-kilowatt-hour battery can discharge enough electricity to power an average German home for three days. Four million such vehicles — the number of EVs on German roads by 2025 — represent a theoretical grid storage asset of 308,000 megawatt-hours. That is more storage than all of Germany's dedicated grid-scale battery installations combined, distributed across the country, plugged in every night when electricity demand is lowest and renewables are most abundant. The economics compound the physics. German EV owners who participate in Vehicle-to-Grid schemes buy electricity at off-peak rates — as low as €0.08 per kilowatt-hour at night — and sell it back during peak periods at rates that can reach €0.35 per kilowatt-hour. The car earns money while the owner sleeps. The grid gets storage it did not have to build. The renewable energy that would otherwise be curtailed finds a use. Every party in the transaction wins simultaneously. Germany is not building a battery storage network. It is discovering that it already has one, parked in 4 million driveways. 26. Had the car 10 Years from new and the car is now at 97500 miles. 10th Service and Seventh MOT done last year ( 2025 ) with nothing to report. 11th Service and Eighth Mot done last week (2026 ) with nothing to report. Still only had one MOT advisory in its life. Car is still on original brakes all round, original clutch, & battery. Apart from normal servicing it has wanted: - Lower front suspension arm rear bushes. ( the MOT advisory ) Passenger front electric window fuse! A look at / fix the AC recirculation flap motor housing. Lower front grill, that was both chewed by a rodent and head butted by a pheasant. Inner wing O-S-F plastic cover for access to headlight bulb that went AWOL. 3 AC re gas refills. Tyres, which do about 30K miles on the front. Some headlight bulbs. H7 Osram Nightbreaker's. Wipers front and rear. Engine consumes no oil between services and can still do above 60MPG on a good tank. Still like and plan to keep the car. Thanks. AG Falco
  27. Sorry to hear that @Cairus I find working on my car a nice distraction from work and family noise! But spending time with family is also important!
  28. The only I can recommend is OEM unit - MIB STD2 PQ.
  29. Update from our dealer who pings me a message on the 1st of each month with a progress report: the car has been built and is in transit to the UK. Result! Let's hope this one doesn’t suffer from the Christmas lights on the dashboard issue. Really looking forward to getting the car now. Best wishes.
  30. Not true - all versions of the Mk3.5 vRS came with 18” Gemini wheels as standard. Both 230ps and 245ps variants also had 340mm front brakes - the difference is that the 245 has 310mm vented rear, rather than 272mm solid. The easiest way to tell a 230 vs a 245 is to take a look at the rear brakes. The interior stitching on the 230 is also white, whereas the 245 is red - this is probably the most useful when looking at an advert. You can also check the door sticker for the engine code. 230ps models will be CHHA or DKTA, whereas 245ps will be DLBA, DHGA or DKTB. The DKTA and DKTB variants are Euro 6 with the GPF. You’ll find people claiming that the 245 has black exhaust tips - this isn’t true. They were, technically, meant to, but a lot of them didn’t. The 230 was phased out around 2018, but build dates and dealer stock means some do exist with later registrations. You want to get the 245. The extra power is irrelevant, along with the rear brakes - but you want it for the LSD and DQ381. Nothing wrong with the 250, but the 7-speed ratios are just that bit more friendly. The LSD, frankly, makes the car what it is. You’ll find that the prices are pretty much the same - whether it’s a 230, 245, 245 Challenge or whatever. The base build spec of both cars was the same - that’s how my 2020 car has ACC, the digi dash and £600 worth of black paint on the spoiler, but manual folding mirrors and no heated seats. If you want to do some research on the 230 versus the 245, you can compare the GTI to the GTI PP. It’s the same thing. There are lots and lots of posts about this - just use the search function.
  31. to reset the inspection reminder follow the same procedure as service reminder, but with the hazard lights on, it worked for me last time i tried.
  32. @philsmith I am sorry to hear about your experience with your Superb. A competent dealer makes all the difference, whatever marque. Our supplying Land Rover dealer was great at the outset in 2017 but then lost all of the good people, becoming so incompetent that I dreaded any contact with them - "technician says it might help if you lay a blanket over the engine block at night to help retain the heat for the startup routine in the morning". That was their recommendation in the absence of an available diesel glow plug control unit, due to supply chain issues when JLR screwed up their UK parts' distribution centres because of an efficiency drive. Own goal there! Did our Velar V6 D300 start in the Italian ski resort of Madesimo? Yes, after almost 15mins turnover and a near flat battery. That's a £71k product in 2017 money. I guess what I am saying is that our collective experience is all too common. Your post made me watch a YouTube video of the Jaecoo 8 Executive. Flippin' hec, it looks pretty good outside and the interior fit out is generally impressive too. As per usual, the reviewer was at the Jaecoo launch event and, as many other journalists have already stated about the resultant journalistic output, it wasn't the most rigorous or objective of reviews. Nonetheless, Jaecoo is a market disruptor and, if I was a current European or Japanese manufacturer I would be very worried. Would I buy one? Goodness, no. Would I lease one? I might over the same period as the full manufacturer's warranty (by which I mean, discounting the long headline warranty duration and instead focusing on the core, non wear & tear element). So, three or four years then. As a lease, the majority of the risk sits with the lease company for what is a new entrant into the UK. I say majority of the risk because.... a lot hinges upon the dealer network and parts supply. Sound familiar? If there are issues, serious issues, then some of the risk still sits with the driver under a lease agreement. The lease looked pretty decent though. 36mths, 12mth initial payment and 15k miles per annum was coming out at £500 per month after a £6k initial payment. So, £24k over the three years then. Why am I not ready for this? A few things. First, despite your personal experience with your latest Skoda, I am not yet ready for a jump into the unknown with Jaecoo. Not yet. Like you, from what I read, I have a low tolerance of faff and I really do worry that there's still a mountain of 'unknown unknowns' with these Chinese challenger manufacturers here in the UK and Europe. I just don't have the risk appetite for them yet, even on lease. I am a late adopter, not an early one or innovator. Second, I am also not yet ready for a 1.5 Chinese engine hauling a large SUV around when the battery is exhausted. China is great at battery technology but less so with ICE. Nor am I ready for the soft, relaxed ride on the Scottish Borders' fast twisty roads where we live. Straight line? Yes, providing it doesn't wander in lane on the motorway like some of the others. Cornering? High centre of gravity, the mass shifts in the turn. Not nice. Been there with the Velar and, despite all the electronic wizardry that JLR threw at it, an SUV is still an SUV. And Jaecoo isn't renowned for it's handling, feedback and steering yet. There's just too much mental baggage for a leap to Jaecoo yet. But, on first sight, the Jaecoo 8 appears interesting when specced thoughtfully (paintwork, interior configuration etc). I hope you enjoy yours and I congratulate you on being an early adopter. Jaecoo are throwing a lot at the UK market and, since the Chinese domestic consumer market is having a tough time at present and they don't have access / easy access to the US or EU marketplace, I get the business strategy here. They're new here but they're not new in China. Finally, being the last of the Boomers or the first of GenX, I still prefer to buy and own stuff. I don't enjoy lease or PCP, having tried the latter once. A Jaecoo 8, any Jaecoo, only makes sense with a lease or PCP for me right now. I'm not yet ready for that model of funding our cars. Meanwhile, I await delivery of our Superb and hope that I have a good experience otherwise I may just throw in the towel, join you and move to the lease / disposable / white goods approach to family transport that has become so popular these days. Best wishes and thanks for taking the time to let us all know. Possibly a tricky pill for some here to swallow but I guess we all know that it's important to listen to the full range of feedback, not just the happy-clappy stories. Arianne
  33. I've bought some 'atp automotive AT-205 RE-SEAL' to try to spray on what ever 'rubber' bits I can get at without dismantle, might take two goes as it's so noisy on my wife's 2015 and has been for a good few years now. I don't drive the car that often but when I did two winters ago on a cold day I was shocked at how loud it was despite having heard it for years previously in better weather. Some owners spend a lot of time and money trying to stop the noises and aren't successful and as my wife's car was looked at by IIRC the Dealership and an independent garage and they found nothing of concern I've left it as my wife is used to it and has the radio on, it is useful as a reminder to go slower for the raised humps and 3rd-world roads we have anyway. Neither is anything mentioned at any of of the MoTs - other than the front dampers that the Dealership claimed were leaking (at 6 yrs/41k-miles) so fail MoT very expensive replacement by them and the new 2yr-warranty were leaking 11 months later at a service and pre-MoT check by an independent that was used just that once. Back to Dealership for under warranty replacement and they said the dampers were only "misting" which was normal for them (VW ?quality?) and Mot pass without advisory. Following MoTs by (a different and better than previous) independent garage puts the "misting" as an advisory, as they told me they know about the dampers VW fit and would never use them offering better at vastly lower supply and fit cost. HTH.
  34. UPDATE: So, we finally got the car back this morning. It went in over two weeks ago once we knew the hydraulic/ABS system had a fault. Garage contacted VW for the part only to be told that it is on back order with no idea when (or even if) it would be available. Garage then started to make further enquiries and found a small company that said they could actually repair the "ABS pump module" (as I now know it is called) and actually managed to do it! So part was returned, refitted with no callout for a programmer to recode a new one. Entire job originally expected to be between £2 and £2.5 ended up being £980. Including all the original testing and determining the fault. As far as I am concerned, that's a win. As someone said upthread, it's great to have a good local garage.

The only droning I have in my Karoq is when I travel with the wife!
  37. The car has an EFB+ battery where I am pretty sure both of the others had AGM batteries which seems to stand up to low usage better. I do mostly short journeys with the odd trip to Newcastle where our son is and over to Norwich where the in-laws are. We did a 70 mile round trip yesterday so didn't put the Ctek on it last night. I stuck a meter on it this morning and it was 12.5 v and watched it drop to 12.1 v and all I had done is open the door and bonnet. The car seems to click, buzz and whir all the time locked or unlocked with my keys well away in their Faraday pouch. Currently feeling like an expensive mistake buying it.

Thank you, I will finish the aforementioned open projects and then slowly close the Leon FR chapter. I've probably spent too much time with the car and various retrofits( Octavia & Kodiaq) over the last 18 months, even though I have a delightful daughter who will soon be four and my "wife" of over 18 years by my side. But it was probably my refuge because I'm ill, and this illness is incurable.
