  4. I just don't like any carbon effect. If it's not real carbon, then Skoda should have left it alone. Or offered colour coded gloss inserts.

  6. Last night I took pikey car maintenence to a new level. While manoeuvring out of a tight parking spot at work I caught the passenger side of the bumper of the ibiza on a massive kerb ripping the screws out of the arch liner and unclipping it from the body. Lucky it will push back into the body but the screw holes in the liner which hold it in firm ripped apart so it just flexes and bend out of the body again. Hmm how to fix it Simple solution = just use some new self tappers and screw it all back in place Oh i have no self tappers left Ok we'll drill some holes instead and use some cable ties Oh i have no cable ties left um err drill some tiny siting holes and use a bent nail? yeah that'll do. Yes i have indeed fixed my car with a hammer and nails

  11. I'm a massive fan of Carbon Fibre, my mountain bike's made of the stuff (frame, bars, seat post), I work in Aviation and see the good stuff all the time. It's very impressive material and when done properly looks bloody gorgeous! It reflects deep, multicoloured 'haze' in good light.OTOH, I've seen loads of sh1te, pretend, effect, look stuff, even the best looking crap is still crap (see Halfords comment earlier) and shouldn't be allowed on the VRS (probably the same idiot that said UK can't have folding mirrors). I'm just very, very glad mine was built before this abomination came into being! This may seem harsh, but it is just my opinion! If you like it then fair enough, hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine!

  20. I'm not just saying this because y car is almost 12 months old and I have the "aluminium style" inserts, but I prefer them to the newer carbon ones. Just my own personal preference.

  25. LOL ! They're 4 tiny holes that you can't see anyway . I'd say the Armster is better quality as well than the OEM rest. I'd sooner have the factory fitted one, but for guys who either couldn't decide, or didn't have the choice (like me) plus retro fitting the Skoda rest means stripping half the interior out including the seats ! You just know that something's going to rattle & squeak after that job.

  28. Reduce the minimum wage and tax credit system will mean that the government further subsidises the private sector, of course business would flock tot he UK but we would still be broke. Increase the minimum wage would likely drive out investment. See? The problem isn't minimum wage. VWD has it spot on. it COSTS too much to live here. The answer to that is not to give people who work more money. The answer is to give less money to those who don't work. And by that I don't mean those on benefits. I mean those who monopolise the wealth, principally the land. I suggest a progressive Land Value Tax and the complete re-writing of planning regulations as a start.

  29. They work when the car is stationary, the headlights are 'on' (not auto) and the steering wheel is turned or the indicator is turned on. Testing them on the move can be tricky as they only work under a certain speed. Also when you select reverse both cornering fogs should illuminate to help expose hidden obstacles if the front end swings out. The vRS does not get the cornering fogs activated from the factory. They first need to be enabled using VCDS, then you should see the option to turn them on/off im Maxidot.

  33. Ebay. Search for video input interface for RCD 510 for Bolero or RNS 510 for Columbus. The one for Columbus just plugs on the back. The one for Bolero has to be fitted inside the stereo. I haven't spoke to anyone who's done the Bolero one yet, so I'm waiting for mine to come and experiment!

  34. Did someone call? The relevant towing limits were increased to 2000kg not long after the Yeti was introduced, however that does put the trailer over the vehicle kerb weight. Having done it once with the Freelander, I won't be doing it again!! I have heard that both the UK Caravan Clubs are considering an increase in the "recommended" limits, and I do feel that the current limit does not take into account the modern systems nowadays found on cars, from anti-lock braking to electronic stability systems. Remeber that the 80% figure was thought up when cars still had drum rear brakes! I'm lucky. My caravan has a max of 1050kg, and it is all too easy to forget it. I found myself at a "slightly" illegal speed on the M5 going down to Cornwall last year! The "Rally" thought has already been mentioned. I have a site for both 'vans and campers in mind, plus a suitable gentle off-road jaunt. It is just trying to get a date, especially as I work basically 3 weekends out of 4. Obviously it will have to be offered elsewhere, but numbers will have to be limited, won't they? Actually the way around it is for it to be my personal "bash" and for me to invite my "friends". Just because they only own Yeti's..........................................

  35. If it goes for less than a grand, i'll have it. Shouldn't be too hard to put back to standard, and I'd be able to sell all the other tat in the mcdonalds car park lol.

  36. I spose it would be worth a low offer just to return it back to standard but it makes you wonder what horrors lurk under the bonnet... You could always donate all the stick-on bits to Blue Peter, I reckon they could make Tracey Island Mk2 with that lot

  37. that is a worry..... I still believe they will just replace it and take the old box away for examination

  38. Thanks for reply. So it seems that monitoring is more or less like on the Mk1 Superb I have. Replacing position lights is not advisable anyway, for two reasons: Front sidelights replaced with LEDs heat up when main beam is on. Most LEDs have plastic at the back, which vaporizes and fouls up main beam reflector. Cleaning this is hard or impossible due to no access. Rear sidelights fitted with LEDs get frosted inside in winter, and snow does not fall off them because there is not enough heat produced (1-2W instead of 5W). The big question is, is rear fog light monitored? I need both rear fogs fitted with 2W LEDs. It makes sense because when wired as stop+fog the LEDs light up visibly (~0.5s) quicker than the bulbs in stop lights. Still wondering about what is lit up for the DRLs for the UK, I thought they were mandatory across EU now?

  39. First on a Roomster I'd check the door wiring loom. Unclip the rubber boot in the door shut from the top and pull back and check the wires, might well find one or more is broken, pretty common one that.

  40. In VW cars, the switches are part of each door lock. Door locking control unit probably is the "brain" that controls all doors. But it may not be the problem, the problem may be the small switches in the actual door lock in driver door. Usually, wires leading to these switches corrode over time and eventually fail. Garages frequently quote repair for the most expensive part they can find related to the fault (a classic is replacing injection pump on diesels for hard starting problems, when just glow plugs need to be renewed). Most likely door interior needs to come off and then either entire lock replaced or microswitch connections soldered. Failure of central locking control unit is far less likely. Sometimes the fix is as simple as unplugging and plugging back the door lock electrical connection at either door side or control unit side. My advice is to seek second opinion at an independend VW/Skoda specialist garage and do not tell the 2nd garage what the 1st one said.

  43. This same problem with the 1.3mpi engine seems to be cropping up on here a lot but I've yet to see a straightforward answer. There are a lot of people finding the revs are dropping when starting from cold, mine still fluctuates quite a bit when idling even after 10 minutes of driving but after an hour or so it's fine. If mine stalls soon after starting then I can't get it started again without rolling it which makes me think starting it puts a massive load on the battery and unless you can get it started and drive around for a bit for the alternator to charge it, it doesn't have enough juice to do another start. The latest suggestion (which I'm going to try with mine) is a FULL clean of the throttle body including fitting a new gasket and getting the throttle zeroed with VAG-Com. I just need to get hold of a laptop I can use with my cable and I'll see if that makes any difference.

  46. No problem Phil I have some spares now so it's all good.......... Not entirely too sure how you can quantify this statement and with many things you post on here Roto, they are clear and straight to the point and what you say going............. I should really stay out of these types of discussions but I do find some of these posts pretty ridiculous. Before I go on, for those of you that don't know I used to work for Hella for over 5 years until like many things within the UK they get pulled to other countires where production cost and overheads are lower, I now work in the same line of business but Designing more prestigious motor's as opposed to mass production vehicles, so I know a little about lamps and their designs. I would love to know how you can quantify the statement with regards to dirt ingress sealing? Can you give me some examples Roto? The common fault detailed with the module carrier popping off the adjuster pivot is valid, this was solved later down the line with a small Design Change. The touirist lever is something that is used my many manufacturer's and not only is this a feature that most OEM's aren't interested in it is also something that doesn't need to be fancy, it's simple something to change the cut off, there is in my opinion nothing wrong with this feature on the Superb and other manufactures have similar functions on their modules. Valeo did indeed get the business for the Superb MK2 but have you really ever thought to ask yourself why? I doubt it..........Hella will receive RFQ's from the customer for different projects and quote accordingly, in most instances the OEM will not allow a Supplier to have all the lamps on one car to ensure that they don't have any supply issues and placing all their eggs in one basket, in this instance Hella won the business for the Octavia as they can handle the higher volumes as opposed to the lower volumes on the Superb, this was an OEM decision not based on whether Valeo lamps are deemed better than Hella's, let's all remember the Nationality of Valeo at this point........... Other comment's related to light output are also slightly inaccurate as one of the major things that effect the beam pattern is all driven by the Outer Lens A-Surface and the rake and glare given from the curvature, this will give a perfect cut-off in some instances and others it will blur the cut-off. All I will say is don't believe everything you read on forums by people who really just have an opinion and force it strongly upon you, granted this applies to everything and you make your own decisions but comparing the MK1 Superb Head Lamp technology to the MK2 Superb Head Lamp technology is roughly 8 years difference, I am sure you can all see how quickly Lighting Technology is developing, this can be seen with Audi leading the way currently and they now have an entire team of people specific to Lighting of which whom I know have more than a few ex-Hella employees.
