  2. Yes! I already have a new Quaife diff in the garage, another NQS BBK and am jumping on group buys ahead of time for bits and pieces and to save money. If I can sell my current car as is then great; if not I can take things like the Twintercooler and use it on the new car and sell other parts. Either way, the new car will be getting K04'd with delivery miles on the clock!

  9. The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death. A mate of mine recently admitted to being addicted to brake fluid. When I quizzed him on it he reckoned he could stop any time. I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin, 3 hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot! My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were £70! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over. I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move. I was driving this morning when I saw an AA van parked up. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself, that guy's heading for a breakdown. My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30am this morning, can you believe that,2:30am?! Luckily for him I was still up playing my Bagpipes. Paddy says "Mick, I'm thinking of buying aLabrador ." Sod that says Mick "have you seen how many of their owners go blind?" Man calls 999 and says "I think my wife is dead" The operator says how do you know? He says "The sex is the same but the ironing is building up!" I saw a poor old lady fall over today on the ice!! At least I presume she was poor - she only had £1.20 in her purse. I woke up last night to find the ghost of Gloria Gaynor standing at the foot of my bed. At first I was afraid.......then I was petrified. A wife says to her husband you're always pushing me around and talking behind my back. He says what do you expect? You're in a wheelchair. I was explaining to my wife last night that when you die you get reincarnated but must come back as a different creature. She said I would like to come back as a cow. I said you're obviously not listening. The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I have been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back. The wife was counting all the 1ps and 2ps out on the kitchen table when she suddenly got very angry and started shouting and crying for no reason. I thought to myself, "She's going through the change." When I was in the pub I heard a couple of plonkas saying that they wouldn't feel safe on an aircraft if they knew the pilot was a woman. What a pair of sexist pigs. I mean, it's not as if she'd have to reverse the bloomin thing Local Police hunting the 'knitting needle nutter', who has stabbed six people in the village in the last 48 hours, believe the attacker could be following some kind of pattern. Bought some 'rocket salad' yesterday but it went off before I could eat it! A teddy bear is working on a building site. He goes for a tea break and when he returns he notices his pick has been stolen. The bear is angry and reports the theft to the foreman. The foreman grins at the bear and says "Oh, I forgot to tell you, today's the day the teddy bears have their picks nicked Just got back from my mate's funeral. He died after being hit on the head with a tennis ball. It was a lovely service.

  10. Hi everyone, Ive been a member of the site for a while but havent posted much, anyway, yesterday I traded in my 2008 2.0tdi dsg elegance for a 2008 1.8tsi manual elegance. I had the 2.0 tdi remapped f by Viezu, not mentioned much on here but I found the map to be very smooth, and having taken the map off when changing the car it adds a noticeable amount of power, leaving the car feeling quite flat without it. I just though I'd write a quick review of how the two cars compare, because when I was looking to change I was very unsure of whether or not to go for the petrol. Having read many reviews on here I went for it, and I'm glad I did. My main worry was that the 1.8 wouldnt have the torque of the diesel, and at the end of the day it cant quite match it in this respect. However, it never feels lacking for torque, even from low revs, and I dont find myself having to change down unless I want to overtake or whatever, which I probably would have done in the diesel anyway. Note that on the motorway at 60/70 either car is happy to pull out for an overtake in 6th. When the revs build and the turbo is on song the car really pulls, and although not scientific, it certainly looks and feels as though it would outstrip the 2.0 tdi, especially as the speed increases. Economy was anther factor, and again, although not scientific, the diesel did 50mpg on the 100+ mile trip to pick up the car, and the petrol did 42mpg on the way back. (both according to the onboard computer) Both journeys were mainly motorway and cruise controlled at 70. Obviously I did test the 1.8 at every opportunity!! Until driving the 1.8 I always read the comments about the pd diesels having a lump of torque then running out of steam quickly with a pinch of salt, because it felt perfectly smooth to me, however, having driven the tsi for a few days, my opinion is that it is much smoother (and quieter) and gives a better driving experience because of it. The engine really is a peach, and for anyone else out there torn between petrol and diesel I can definatley recommend you give the petrol a chance! I dont want this review to sound as though I'm bashing the TDI because that was a brilliant car in its own right, I loved the low down torque and the DSG box complements the engine really well. For the performance/economy its a great engine, and had I been doing more miles in a year (I do about 10k) it would have been another diesel for me. In summary: 1.8 tsi + faster, smoother, quiter - economy, but doesnt seem too bad so far. 2.0 tdi + bags of torque, easy to drive - noisy, runs out of steam Harry.

  13. The 2013 models for most manufacturers are delivered in May of the previous year just to confuse things. As cars are some stored in customs warehouses ie car parks near ports and they can sometimes be there for months or even a year or two. I have been in control of up to 50,000 cars as a customs officer in charge of such facilities and if some people only new what they were getting when the ordered a "new" car. Newly registered but sat by the sea for months and months in some cases.

  15. Ohh some inflation... that kind of happens when you print money. Now who was it that started the 'it's not prointing money, it's quantative easing'. At the end of the day, the figures are not revised yet and the whole thing is neither here or there in my opinion. Most of the hit, came from a sector that needs to contract and have a few companies die off (Construction). The people should well get re-employed by the remaining companies, but there are so many construction companies out there, for a much more limited number of people/companies wanting to build.

  19. Ummm... You'll want to change it when it's cold, hot engines have hot coolant and it comes out all over your hand, even more so when picking out the stinking old o ring which usually stays stuck in place. Even when stone cold and unused for days there will still be coolant in the pipes, the header is above this as is the top of the rad, so you are going to lose coolant, well it is and you do on the TDI. If you're lucky you won't lose too much. Check the header tank, probably after running the engine for a minute or so and see where the level is. If it needs topping, use the right stuff, pink not blue, rating I can't recall but someone on here will. Tom

  21. That's manual air conditioning, same as on our MY2012 SE. This is Climatic on our MY2009 Fabia 2. Climatic has the two sensors either side of the aircon/recycle air switches, climatic under the fan speed switch and a C under the temperature selector with the temerature figures 16, 22, and 28 in degrees centigrade around the temp dial. 25. Right lets just Clarify something rather than people being fed duff info. There is no way of knowing if your car is mappable via OBD just by telling someone on the internet what model engine it is. Firstly - Although Skoda still insist on calling it a TFSi unit. The FL vRS have a 2.0TSi unit. If you don't beleive me open the bonnet and look at the engine. IIRC from 09 onwards they were TSi Secondly - It is the ECU revision & software which will dictate wether or not it is a Bench Flash or mappable via OBD port. As i have already said my 2011 2.0 TSi vRS was mappable through the OBD Port. However a 2011 61 Plate 2.0TSi vRS had to be bench flashed. So it is the luck of the draw. Depending on who you use will depend on how the bench flash works. Some do it so that they bench flash and then all alterations are done via OBD. Others do it by bench falsh only Hope that helps

  27. I would think that towing preparation doesn't feature very highly in Skoda's idea of desirable selling points compared to the likes of Bi-Xenon headlights, electric seats, built-in sat nav etc; to all intents and purposes the preparation is invisible so I don't suppose they are going to make a big deal of it. However, the topic is tow bar costs, so - can the cost of the towing preparation be justified? Assuming that the additional wiring loom and coding ( and ignoring the bumper cut out for now ) is included in the tow bar fitting costs then, if the intention is to tow a small trailer, I don't think the cost is justified. If the intention is to tow a caravan I would have to say yes it is justified if only because of the larger cooling fan. As Graham says, the designers wouldn't specify a larger fan just for the sake of it; bearing in mind that the Yeti can tow up to 2000kg? ( according to the car configurator ) which is a fair size both in terms of weight and wind resistance I have to say though that I tow a caravan of a similar weight to Graham's with a high mileage 12 year old Vauxhall Astra, the engine of which is somewhat less powerful than the Yeti options. Yes, the temperature gauge does creep up on long motorway gradients but it's never gone high enough for the electric cooling fan to cut in - do diesel engines run hotter than petrol? Actually, I think I'm convincing myself here to go for the towing preparation! - it's just that darned bumper cut out  Regards, Lee.

  37. I'll second that! The Climatronic on the Fabia is a bag of s*ite. It doesnt seem to take any account of engine coolant temperature hence during winter its persistent habit of ramping up fan speeds to gale force when its stil stone cold - overriding any tweaks to turn the fan down. Conversly, when at temperature it also keeps ramping down fan speeds even after turning the damn thing up. You can spend more timing messing around with the controls than looking where you're driving during that first 4 minutes after a cold start. It often justs forgets its last fan speed setting when restarting the car - No.3 gale again. The fan is noisy and whines like heck. And who decided to use a control with 1/64 turn sensitivity? 1 out of 5 attempts at a single speed change either takes it the wrong way or it moves 3 or more speeds even though youe definitely only moved it one notch! Going from off to full speed is about 1/8 turn!!! For f** sake! And whoever thought that having AUTO and ECON displayed at the same time needs re-educating in a labour camp. The original semi-auto was ideal, but if I cant have that then I would choose manual every day over climatronic. If its not forced on you (elegance trim) then dont waste your money on it.

  39. Having had all three the semi automatic Climatic system is by far the best. Such a shame that Skoda have now dropped it from the Fabia and the SE now gets plain manual aircon. Cheers Lee
