  6. Thought I'd try and start a progress thread as I've never done one of these before even with my old car. Please bare with me as this will be a slow progress lol. I suppose I had better start from the beginning...................................................... Back in december I sold my beloved 280BHP VX Signum 2.8T V6 due to stupid £460 a year road tax and running costs this was my old beauty I was originally looking at replacing her with a Sabb 9-3 Aero but at the time all the half decent ones were either just out of my price range or the other end of the country and I didn't have a car to travel in to go and see them. I had joined Briskoda a few months before I sold the Siggy as I was thinking about buying a Fabia vRS and one day while perusing the for sale section I came across a red Octi vRS mk1 and fell in love. It was well priced and well under what I had planned to spend on a car so was even more appealing. I contacted the seller and after a few emails planned to see the car one Saturday. I had pretty much decided I was going to have it before I got there. I arrived at midday and was greeted by a cracking car that was exactly as described so I snapped her up and drove her home that day. These are a couple of picks taken a few days before i picked her up. The Spec at this stage was Revo stage 1 map, Forge 007 DV, EBC groved discs, Forge carbon engine cover. She needed a little work straight away which comprised of new arb bushes and droplinks which cured a nasty knock at the same time I had a yellow dog bone mount fitted also. She stayed pretty much like this till around Feb when I decided to strip the front grill off and paint Plastidip matt black as below. Once this was done i came across a cheap set of RS4 alloys thanks to Bowders1, I'd all ways loved these alloys and just had to have them. Pics of the wheels off the car And pics once fitted Next up were coilovers, after a drunk bid on ebay I ended up with a cheap set of coilovers for the octy lol. I gathered all the other parts I needed such as top mounts, bearings and all nuts and bolts etc etc and fitted them at a Vec-C/Signum owners club Fix it meet. I'm still an active member of the forum and made some great friends on there who were more than happy to help me fit them. This was the first time I'd tackled such a big job and had a great time doing it and learnt a lot too. Some pics from the days efforts. After fitting the coilovers and dropping her a good few mm I notice the inside of the front tyres were rubbing on the coil adjuster so I purchase some 5mm hubcentric wheel spacers and fitted them which gave me the space I needed. Thats pretty much how she's stayed since then. Due to rubbish weather she has been filthy for the last month till today when she had a full detail. Some pics after todays work. And below my latest addition, I have been looking at stickers and came across this one. I wanted something a little defferent from the norm so I went for this..... A wolf in sheeps clothing. Not to everyones taste but I like it and as I'm going to be Plastidipping my wheels soon I thought I'd stick with the red and matt black theme. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome. Cheers H

  7. S3 Steering Rack + TT/S3/R32/LCR Tie Rods + Std vRS Subframe + S3 Brace Nuts + Nearly New TT Tie Rod Ends + Nearly New Bush think its Powerflex. This is the 2.5 turn "Quick Rack" which makes the car feel more positive and adds more feel. Not suitable for cars with ESP as it buggers up the steering angle sensor iirc but will go on to any other mk4 golf platform car. I was lead to believe it was fairly new when fitted to Amateurstuntmans/Westallc black vRS but cant say for sure. I know it is spot on tho with no play or knocks. I am putting my std vRS subframe with it so it can be built up ready for a quick swap, Also the Tie rods, Boots and Tie Rod Ends are all the TT ones and are fatter threaded than the std Octavia stuff and also point up to go in to the Hub unlike the Octavia that points down, they can still be used but would need swapping sides for use with the std vRS/Octavia Hubs. The boots were New last year when I built it all up. £120 + Postage if needed TT/S3/R32/LCR Hub Assemblies + vRS Hub Flanges + 10k old OEM Bearings from TPS. These are both ready to go with nearly new bearings put in them when I had the vRS flages fitted so they can go on with the std vRS drive shafts. They have only done around 10k miles to and from work when I used the car daily last year. These are a perfect upgrade to go with the Cast Wishbones and some coilovers as they allow you to lower the front of the car by 20-30mm and still maintain the std wishbone angle which is very important for handling. SOLD TT/S3/R32/LCR Cast Wishbones + Std OEM Solid Rubber Bushes + Ball Joints. these are stronger than std wishbones and allow camber adjustment unlike std ones. These can also be fitted with the castor bushes to combat understeer. Bushes fitted are solid rubber std ones from TPS I fitted last year. have done approx 10k miles the same as the Ball joints so are perfectly ok to use for a few years. £125 + Postage if needed SuperPRO Cast Wishbone Bushes(Castor Increase) These are brand new and ready to fit to the Cast wishbones. I got them to go in my cast wishbones but managed to get hold of some Brand new ones with the bushes already in them. £95 + £2.50 postage R32 23mm Front Anti Role Bar + Nearly New (5k) SuperPRO Bushes. This is also a must to go with all the rest of the stuff I am selling and is also a good addition to the std setup in conjunction with a 25mm or 28mm Rear Anti Role Bar. Not really advised to put this bar on without a RARB tho. THe bushes are pritty much new as I got new ones mid/late last year as I wrongly thought the ones with it were std but they wernt DOH. SOLD Neuspeed 28mm Rear Anti Role Bar An awesome RARB and a perfect match to the R32 FARB. Comes with all fixings needed. Will be cleaned up and painted before sale. I can paint Hammerite vRS green or spray it black? Extreemly well made bar and the fixings are one of the best. not like the crappy whiteline U clamps that bend and snap. Nothing against the whiteline tho as they are perfect entry level and spot on for the 19mm std FARB. SOLD All Parts are Collection from Cardiff or I can sort postage at extra cost. I would preffer Collection tho as its easier for me and you know your getting the item as there seems to be some W*****S on here screwing people over. Also means I know your seriouse. Postage may take a few days as I work nights and only get certain days off. Also I will post anywhere in reason BUT the Buyer Pays for it. No haggling just because Postage is high. Payment is Pay Pal Gift or you pay the fees! Parts are still on the car atm but will be off between the 11th July and the 18th July as I am off then to sort the car and spend time on Sat Sun Mon with my Family. Please reply here stating the parts your after so others know and PM me so I can reply when at work for quick response. Many thanks in advance. Billy STD Parts available Now: vRS steering wheel + Airbag wires No real wear at all leather in A1 condition, came out of my 05 Fabia vRS as Ive put my Octy one in it lol. just for sentimental purposes. NO AIRBAG £40 + Postage STD Octavia vRS Steering Rack Std Steering Rack only, no Tie Rods or boots, iirc I have still got the bush on it but not sure, Covered 91k mile ish and was perfectly ok when removed in Feb 2011. mostly motorway use. No knocks or play at all, Came off the car and went straight in the shed all wrapped up just in case the S3 Rack went. Dont need spares now so best off selling to someone who may need one. SOLD I have 3 Dogbone mount too which Ill be seeing which works best for me. I have an APR one, A std one with the Powerflex bush in and a fully SuperPRO one.

  21. OK, photos..! Rownham's at 10.30(ish). Exploded Fabia vRS with yellow spiders just out of shot... (Oli checking out something superior to a Fabia ) Then we got to the New Forest, after some idiots trying to break our convoy... this is the *actual* third ever vRS SE, belonging to Topstop (I think!) Des's lovely vRS CR 170... it didn't sound like a diesel... Barryjohnny's Roomster. First one I'd actually looked at! Oli's beautifully clean Fab vRS... Stuart's beautifully clean Octy vRS... Some manky blue skip... \ Lorna's pocket rocket... Hayden's resurrection... Ben's monster miler vRS! Lee's lovely Fabelegance... Manny's (dad's) Fabia Greenline... ... complete with the tiniest little engine! Awh! A long line of Skodas...

  23. Glad you're sorted. Private sale always the way to go although appreciate it can sometimes lead to grief... Sold my last two cars privately - went quickly and first to view bought on both occasions - neither buyer messed me about either. If you're unlucky you can end up dealing with a knobhead.

  24. As it was a decent day yesterday took the car on a 240-mile round trip (wanted to visit Riccarton Junction) - M74 down to Longtown, then across to Hawick via Newcastleton, and home via Galashiels, Peebles, and Carluke. Covered just about every type of road - motorway, a-roads, and b-roads - the vRS is a fantastic all-rounder - relaxed sitting on the motorway with cruise control on, then it comes to life for b-road blasts - lovely noise when you floor it into the bargain. All this and I used just under half a tank of petrol - reckon average mpg would have been mid-40s.

  26. They are replacements for the standard rear suspension bushes on the Polo/Fab/Ibiza. The standard bushes are prone to wearing out quickly and giving crap/twitchy handling! The bushes are solid so last forever and firm up the front end at the same time Old ones Seat ones You can also get these which give you a little bit of movement

  27. This is the key point. If you need to tune or modify car to keep it or get back it's mojo, it ain't gona happen. Or very unlikely, as you need to already like the car to get more from it IMO. It's like a unhappy couple saying let's have a baby and all will be well. (blimey I am going deep this morning) . Perhaps you need a new start with something else, only you know that though.

  29. I've always used the hard break in method , a new engine needs to be worked to ensure the rings bed in correctly. I spent many years drag racing motorcycles where there was no opportunity to bed an engine in on the road most were built , run to operating temperature and allowed to cool and everything was checked for tightness and then it was raced down the quarter mile that was it Similar with the cars, change gear and brake gently as the motor isnt the only thing that needs gentle attention when new but dont be afraid to give it plenty of full throttle runs to the redline and plently of high rpm stuff , dont let the engine plod along make it work a little On the dyno both my PD VRS and CR 170 Superb make more than the manufacturers figures and neither need the oil topped up between services although they did to start with Some might find this interesting reading http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

  31. The tsi is much more entertaining to drive than the tdi, I'm sure you will be happy with it. We were trading in a diesel Fabia for another diesel Fabia but once we tried the tsi that all changed. Our Fabia's dont do many miles and usually short runs so DPF's were a worry. My uncle only does 3k miles a year and has a 1.6tdi Golf and he has had DPF problems. He,s just ordered his new Golf, after trying our Fabia he's ordered a 1.4tsi Golf Match. Cheers Lee

  34. I believe that the Monte and vRS have the same suspension set up (certainly the TSI does) and definately (again the TSI) run on the same tyres (205/40/17). However, road noise is a lot more noticeable in my Monte. But then my Monte is on Dunlops and the vRS is on Contis. Certainly notice the difference (i.e. quieter in respect to road noise) when i steal my vRS back from the wife.

  35. Yea. And I'd do it again. Why let ' em get away it. Especially if they may be trying on. Zero tolerance of poor and dubious business practice, whether its the City of London or the market trader. I'm living off a redundancy payment at present, so £10 is a quarter of my weekly food bill. An inconvenient reality. But there it is. Don't knock the broadcast ekement, people in Syria are dying at the moment fir the sort of transparency that we take for granted. Nick

  43. Quite!! What the valetting brigade need to realise is that the Yeti has brought a new membership element to the Skoda fraternity. People like me, who need a small good quality off-road equipped vehicle that can be driven well on road, and that can cope with all that poor qualitiy roads and tracks throw at that. We may not be the type of people who are fanatical about the cleanliness of our vehicles, because we know that often as soon as we've washed them they will be dirty again in an hour. Often we will go for the quickest and easiest methods to keep our cars at least looking presentable, so if that means using a simple waterless product, then so be it. But to be rudely criticised, lambasted, and to have derogatory remarks made against us will put our backs up, and we will defend ourselves, hopefully politely. Now if those that are fanatical cleaners cannot accept our views, then tough! So to all those who have had a go at me, just accept that I don't and can't accept your fanaticism. I have better things to do then spend days cleaning my car. Good night

  44. @ sk4gw, i'm sure this is what your after so ill oblige. why is it that anything posted in here is always dealt with negativity by yourself? this car is far from perfect, its a cheap hot hatch wannabe so if there's any improvements suggested or to be had and you don't like them then why even post? Why do you think members want to hear your words of wisdom when there always so grumpy? Afterall this wasn't an 'all members please reply' post, merely testing the waters on whether somebody who's up for something different would be interested in it or not and clearly some are. Whether this is a placebo effect or real has nothing to do with anyone who's not interested or, like you, clearly know better. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion, that's a given, but why always so negative??? Let people spend their money (insert waste if you like) and be happy for them that there injecting much needed cash into the big wide world and smile when your counting your coppers. remember that everything CAN be improved its just down to cash, nothing is perfect and corners are always cut, no pun intended i always remember years ago with my mark 1, when a mechanic who was driving it got out, looked underneath and said ' i thought so' when he could feel the effect of my jabba rerb, So as someone who's driven many fabia's maybe it wasn't placebo as he'd no idea it was there having never driven or seen my car before, maybe, just maybe, they do work. Go on, live a little, you never know you may even like it
