  1. Firstly let me say how disappointed I am at some of the (non-Freedom, dare I say?) Briskoda collective. The attitudes shown in this thread are frankly terrible, and even as a business owner, I don't mind saying it. The discount to Freedom members is meant to be a "thanks" to the members for supporting Colin and his team rather than a way for someone to save £50 at the last minute. HOWEVER: I did not say that I wouldn't give the discount to mikejay and he took my comments with the correct attitude and took it on the chin. For any customer with that attitude, I'd happily give the discount, it would be rude, arrogant and pointless of me not to, and THAT would be poor customer service. I didn't say that he wouldn't get the discount, I explained why the discount is there and why I "shouldn't" give the discount. So, Bullit and 07 vRS Taxi, if you decide to take your business elsewhere then that is of course, your choice. If I decide not to give the Freedom discount because the member wasn't a Freedom member when they booked and only decided to join to save themselves £50, then that's my choice. Discounts on any product or service are discretionary at management level, i.e. me. If however you do decide to come along and have your cars done, I will welcome you as I do any customer, water will have flowed under the proverbial bridge, and hopefully you might have a little more respect towards our business and me personally than to go off on a rant unnecessarily, especially when it's actually unfounded. I didn't say that mikejay wouldn't get the discount, I just (politely) pointed out what it was for and why. If you do come, make sure you join Freedom first. There's a 10% discount you know.

  2. My own view on Gap insurance, extra cover on appliances, mortgage insurance, loan protection etc is always a big 'no'. Over the years I've bought hundreds of consumer goods and quite a few cars and always avoided the extra 'taxes'. In some cases much the the annoyance of salesmen seeing their bonus float down the river! Sales people love the extras for what it gives to them.....extra bonus. They push it and include it without asking trying to scare you into it. If they make money and the insurers make money there must be plenty in the scheme to pay out to a small percentage of claims. And insurance companies make serious efforts to avoid paying out anything and certainly they are never generous. With the money I've saved, although not placed in a separate pot, I will continue to self insure my purchases. Of course I insure my house, contents and cars. But this is my opinion.....each to their own....as they say.

You can dilute down a 5L to 20L and it's still bloody strong surviving all winter including those -8 ect. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2

  6. OK Chaps, how about we give him a bit of slack now? He is a newbie after all and has had quite a lot of stick for basically being (too) honest (with us) when he could have just kept to the basic facts surrounding the issue of the NIP and we'd been none the 'wiser'. If we step back and take a breath how many of us have gone through the 14 day 'did I, didn't I, will they, won't they' wait? I know I have and it's not pleasant and the sigh of relief on day 15 was quite a big one. Granted it wasn't because of problems with my car but we all come from different walks of life and live under different circumstances which is why the forum is as successful as it is and we can't all drive new cars.

  10. Bought a set of cheapo Federals for the Fabia 4 years ago. Still on the car too, even if they do make a noise reminiscent of knackered wheel bearings now Round, black, legal, and the car never flew off a corner or crashed into a car due to lack of grip. Too many varying opinions on the subject that ends up baffling and confusing most ordinary punters, and all depends if you're going to be putting the car to its limits too i suppose, in which case, buy the most expensive.

  11. Interesting philosophical thread, albeit centred around the purchase of a new Yeti... As ever it has to be down to an individual's choice, circumstances, children, life expectancy and may other things. I'd two intertwined strokes of luck recently - Mother's estate matched the property next door pound for pound, so bought it and stopped renting. At the same time the local farmer who'd done up the cottage 'gave' me 1/3 acre of field beside the new house. So - an Equity Release later I am looking at an immaculately landscaped garden/field which I will enjoy NOW, and which will help increase the value of the house again, as well as providing a facility which I intend to open up to friends and family of users of the local Hospice so that by sharing this oasis of tranquility with others in their moment of need, I can also raise some funds for that local Hospice. The family? Said "Go for it Dad, we're proud of you!" As I said - it takes all sorts. And I still maneged to pay off the HP on the Superb!!

  19. Right, caved in and have decided to upgrade the FMIC. I haven't gone for the DD / Seat Sport one, something similar but probably slightly bigger. DD didn't have theirs ready for dispatch which also tempted me to go for an alternative. Deep 60mm core so should provide a lot more effective cooling than my first gen Forge which I'll probably put on here for sale The new one will sit in front of the normal radiator, but have gone for a stealth black look so you won't really notice it's there... Apparently, will need to cut away some of the crash bar but only a little amount and not completely removing it which is something I wanted to avoid. Also, being in black, the element of surprise has to be worth a few horses So spending more money than I had anticipated but it's going to be worth it in the long run or at least that's my justification for it.

  23. These service intervals are intended to attract fleet business. Yes they are safe and the warranty is retained but the life cycle of the fleet market assumes that after 3/4 years the car is dumped into the auction market and it has served it's economic life. If that is what suits you -fine but if you want the option of running the car beyond warranty and into the long term it isnt the way I'd go.

  25. Isnt it 507 spec for long life? Im absolutely NOT comfortable with that but the majority on here disagree with me. I had my first oil change at around 9,000 miles/9 months old and since then its been done annually at the dealer (for the book stamps) and an interim one by either Shark Performance or myself every 5,000 miles. If you consider thats over the top then also consider that I use the decent long life stuff each time too!

  26. My personal opinion is that the whole country needs sorting out. There would be no cash benefits if I was the Prime Minister instead coupons that could be redeemed for food, non-alcoholic drinks and basic clothing. The coupons would only be redeemable in stores set up by the government to keep the cost of supplying the bare essentials as low as possible so the rest of the country does not have to subsidise them as much and the extra money can be put in to the NHS, police, fire service and armed forces plus fixing the roads etc. (On a side note did you know that the benefits bill for this country is 2% of the countries GDP - the same as the whole defence budget) Everyone claiming benefits would live in basic tenament buildings, unless they own their own house then they would get a standard rate to pay for their heating, gas, electric etc and anyone who maliciously damaged the tenament building would be housed in something similar but it would have concrete floors with no carpets and the walls would just be unpainted breeze blocks. The only exception to this rule would be if the person was injured and could not work but it it would have to be proven that it was not their fault. Then they would still get the same coupons to exchange for food etc but they would also get a council house paid for by the taxpayer and £250 a month in cash so they can afford some luxuries in their life (after all it wasn't their fault that they can't work). Anyone found to be injuring themselves to recieve these extra benefits would go to prison for fraud and when they came out they would just have the basic benefits. Also the prison's would not be like holiday camps. They would be like basic military training without the physical education side of it, these times would be made 'free time' in which the prisoners would be let out in to the yard and they could do what they want. Every moring there would be inspections at 6 o'clock sharp with bed packs made up (all of you in the military will know what a pain in the arse these are) and the prisoners would not be allowed to go to bed until 9 o'clock at night. Slopping out would be brought back in and the cell's would only be 7 feet by 5 feet which would have a bunk bed in it so 2 prisoners could be kept in the one cell. Gone a bit off topic but if the country was like this then ex service people would be treated the same as everyone else but since its not then I fully support spending some extra money on them if they come back injured from Afghan etc.

  29. They should not forward it to you, the last registered keeper as it arrived in their name is responsible to name the driver at the date and time specified on it. As they cannot do this, they should return it explaining they sold it on the date they did. Then you will get your very own shiny new one in the post. Why it has been sent to the previous keeper if you have been down as the registered keeper since before this date is possibly due to something along the lines of the Police force or camera trust concerned perhaps not having real time information from the DVLA but periodically updated database (only a theory, can't see how or why it would be like that though). I don't like the way this thread has spiralled into a bit of a flaming session and I don't want to add to it......... But I will :p You can't expect anything less than the responses there have been with the admissions you have made. As I see it you have above and beyond normal DSA driving test, gained further training and qualifications specifically in the medical response side of driving. With regards to the defective speedomoter, the prospect of a child running out and you being a few mph over the posted limit could make the difference between stopping in time or taking a life, this is why we have imposed speed limits (the inability to correctly judge the speed of vehicle seems to have been proven by speed camera). The vehicle to be found in a defective state with regards to your speedometer will not result in the possibility of a FPN and a fine, but ultimately a custodial sentence should the worst happen. "My only means of transport" or "didn't have the right part" would not go very far with a jury of your peers or the parents of a dead child. Take this thread constructively as a jury of your peers, essentially that is exactly what it is and who we all are. Additionally 'IF' anything serious were ever to happen, having a timeline of how long it is/was defective posted openly on a public forum you can bet will be used against you in this day and age. Not saying the above to be a tool, just genuinely would like to make sure you are aware of why it is an offence to operate a motor vehicle with a defective speedometer. Not worth the risk and offering any excuses will only be like a red flag to a bull to anyone else, as you can see in here. Don't take it as national flame InkedMuttley day. If that NIP has been forwarded to you now and you have received it, just call the number on it and explain the set up with the dates and it being forwarded to you and seek their advice on what to do with it. Person it is addressed to in error or not should respond to it themselves not post it on.

  31. Just cancel the bloomin booking then ? You are the customer not a Lemming ! That is just tight, I still think Shark are expensive and now are sowing the seeds of the success that this site promotes. Don't give me all the 'development' expense etc, the profit in a remap is incredible, if I remember right a while back on a group buy Shark were offering a £250 deal and would still have been making a tidy amount on that. It takes a hell of a lot of hard work to get a good customer service and reputation for loyalty, it takes next to nothing to lose it. Kerching ££ As I have a petrol I will just wait until they cannot tempt a customer in Dec with a free mince pie offer and go Revo.

  35. below is what nick has to say to this thread via facebook !! the guy is a legend and imo not many people in this country can touch him on knowledge enjoy the read !! We was pumping the fuel in direct to HPFP line, Then timing knock, load and ADD MULT STFTs LTFTs where all reset in the ecu. The car then had the exact same 20mile load cycle to to adapt the car, then 4 back to back power runs all with data logging. It's total Bull crap saying it take 4 tanks, who ever is saying that had not got a single clue how an Adaptive ecu works. It's the same old, some one on a forum post it takes 4 tanks then everyone becomes a keyboard warrior to defend the comments.. Lol. Vicky could "feel" the improved power using same adaption methods and within 30miles driving. I do this day in day out and have seen consistent results over the last 7years on all 1.8t and 2.0tfi setups. I don't stack shelfs for a living, then go on a forum and pretend I know everything because. If the briskoda boys want to prove this 4 tank filling myth then they are more than welcome to have an open day at rtech use the dyno and show me the data and numbers..... So what they are saying is if I am running vpower fuel on a car then switch to 95 the cars is not going to pick up the knock until over 1200miles and 4 tanks of fuel?? Then when I switch back vpower the knock routine is still going to hold the timing back, when the ecu sw is designed to to reapply timing is a set time, within milliseconds not the time it takes to use 4 tanks of fuel. So what's the point of the ecu having a complex knock control to instantly detect the fuel/combustion quality if the ecu is going to wait until 1200miles later. Fuel is not magical potion, it's the RON that's makes it or brakes it. The lower the RON the more knock the car is going to see "instantly" at which point the ecu pulls timing away to a point which best suites the fuel quality, this all works via real time knock sensor voltage. Optimised power from the 2.0tfsi would be 0CF over the whole power run. The Asda fuel was pulling a routine of -6.5CF off the timing maps at points to run safe. Where the V-power ran a 0CF on all 4 runs allowing the ecu to run its optimised timing advance at a safe level. The Vpower did not add extra power to the engine it just allowed the ecu to run its optimised timing advance. All these briskoda boys need to do is repeat the tests we did....... But they cannot can they? As what happens is they will fill up with vpower while still having 20ltrs of happy shopper fuel in the tank, which then dilutes the vpower, then the next tank the full up with more vpower, and top up the already diluted vpower, so maybe at 96.5 / 97ron? Tank number 3 then tank number 4 it will near enough be running the full vpower ron. So maybe won't see the full potential of the fuel until Its neat. These reason we used small fuel tanks with fuel at 5bar direct into the hpfp feed. I bet you £50 non of them have fully emptied and drained a tank of 95, filled up with vpower, reset there ecu the logged the instant timing corrections back to back at the same time measuring the hp on a dyno........ If the ecu is pulling timing out its running less power.

  36. So, I knocked out a trackday on Sunday in the ST250. Must say, im mightily impressed with it. The previous cars Ive had have been prettyheavily modified and pretty competent on track. Much quicker than this car. BUT I was shocked at how much fun the ST250 was to drive on track. Despite it not having the best handling, traction, braking or straightline performance and being generally much less of a track tool than my previous cars it was just a hoot to drive. I think i might have found the first car that is practically perfect for me out of the box. The turn in is great on the car, the back end is really lively, the steering feels great, traction was pretty good, especially considering it was 5oC outside and bizarrely despite me initially posting about how i missed the power of the previous two cars, not once did i want any more power at Knockhill, obviously ill still be looking at stage 1 though, that goes without saying ;-) A few minor things i noticed which id say would be a worthwhile upgrade. Brakes: I ran stock pads but with Motul RBF600 fluid and i cant say i was impressed with them at all. Defintie room for improvement. Lower engine mount: Coming out of the hairpin resulted in a bit of wheel hop a fair few times so it would be nice to get rid of that. LSD: At the John Weir Chicane i think the car would have really benefited alot from an LSD and out of the hairpin. Not an urgent requirement, but definitely something i will be considering. Got a few videos before my battery ran out in the camera As for Knockhill. I really enjoyed the circuit. Very uneven and bump, but the elevation changes and blind corners make for a really exciting trackday. Tricky circuit in the cold and damp though as grip wasnt especially good.. Definitely one of my favourite tracks. Not sure about the organisation though as they split the sessions into "equal" groups, yet my bone stock ST250 was in a class with 911s, Caymens, caged/slick clad track cars. Im pretty sure that people were just doing what ever group session they wanted lol. Got a go in some pretty impressive machinery there as well from some of the local regulars. Great day out and only £55 for a full day!!

  37. I'll give them a quick call tomorrow. Yes we have legal cover. The problem is as soon as you speak to the insurance company the 'accident' is logged on the system. I've just been through this when a lorry side-swiped me on a roundabout last month. I hope these scrapes don't come along in three's. The tree survived, or at least it's still standing!

  42. I have just returned from a short trip to France, where I drove quite a lot of motorway miles. It dawned on me that the attitude of motorway drivers in the UK and France are fundamentally different. In the UK the majority of drivers on motorways operate on the "this is my lane" principle, so if you are in lane 2 at 70 mph overtaking an HGV, more often than not someone will come up behind you, sit close to your tail (often while lane 3 is empty) and wait until you pull in after overtaking the HGV, then proceed to floor the throttle and steam past still in lane 2......because that is "his lane". Utter stupidity in the extreme. If France most drivers actually observe the "keep left (right in France) unless overtaking" rule. And you should see how much better the motorways flow......because everyone always (quite obsessively) pulls into lane 1 or 2 after overtaking, lane 3 is nearly always free, and it is possible to cruise at high speed without impediment.

  47. I agree with more or less everything you've said in this thread. Anybody who doesn't understand that Skoda's are great cars is just plain stupid. Skoda make high quality cars for a good price. What isn't to like about that? In the Czech Rep they are raved about. It's just snobby Daily Fail reading morons who think otherwise. I hope they are happy in their pooorly specced and slow 6 year old BMW 116i's. The tactic I used was telling my friend I had bought a new car, but not telling him what it was, then turning up in it at night and taking him for an all-out blitz around the Devon country roads here, he was blown away by the Fabia vRS's power and handling! One other thing i'd like to point out, how on Earth is the Fiesta ST a 5-star car and the Fabia vRS a 2? That is absolute bull***t. The Fiesta ST is a great car, no doubt, but 3 better than the vRS? I can tell you now for a fact the Fabia vRS is quicker. Somebody is lining the pockets of the media to rave about cars that are yes, good, but not tons better than the competition. Until that stops happening the old stigma and snotty-woman opinions on what is the most competitve and best value car manufacturer in Europe today, will never go away. Don't buy the Daily Mail. Only toilet roll that leaves more **** on than what you had in the first place. I may have just gone on a rant here... so sorry about that. Skoda is the future though, im sure of it!!!
