  1. I'm sure everyone who has had dealings with Lee Harrison during his time at the late Preston Motors would like to wish him a speedy and full recovery to full fitness. Sadly in my opinion there are too many salesman who once they have got your order can't be bothered to answer any questions you may have, luckily Lee isn't one of them and he's always more than helpful to answer even the most trivial question.

  2. I'm not the first by any means, and hopefully mine will be ok after the oil pumps changed. Tonight's update, side indicators wired in, got manual original heaters working woohoo, all abs sensors wired up and connected, abs light is now no longer on the dash, one down many more lights to go lol, bulkhead panel and rubber trim in engine bay fitted, Ecu clipped into place and a brake servo repair kit fitted as a end was split, that is all.

  3. Fully roadworthy with Slovak (former Czechoslovakia) registration plates, MOT and emissions test. These 1100mb's were the first Skodas to have a rear-mounted engine, fully independent suspension all-round, monocoque body, synchromesh gearbox and were a very modern car back in the 60s even by Western standards.

  4. What you haven't checked or mentioned is over how many miles trip 2 was over. It resets itself after 2000 miles so it's possible that part way through your journey it reset and for that part of the journey you got higher figures than the whole of trip 1. Phil

  7. My mileage covered is down to just 2K a year and my age and recent hospital visits have been a contributing factor in my rethink. I could not see the sense in having a car sitting on the drive losing shed loads of money in depreciation and being no more than an expensive shopping trolley  . So when this car came up for sale at a local dealer, with one lady owner from new, full history I seized the opportunity. It now means I have a Rover 75 Connoisseur 2.5 litre V6 petrol which is more expensive to run but I will only be paying for it as and when I use it. I have accounted for tax and Insurance ( Ins at my age is minimal and similar to the Fabia). I have owned the 75 before in diesel form but this KV6 engine is manic in comparison. It's a pipe and slippers car, like riding on a magic carpet while sitting in your big leather arm chair. The KV6 engine is, contrary to the beliefs of some, a good reliable engine and does not suffer from the HGF so common on the 1.8 K series. Mine is on a 53 plate 81,000 miles and has had all the essential expensive works done. Belts/ water pump, Thermostat, and new inlet manifold. I have had it on a Rover T4 diagnostic test and everything works as it should, including the VIS motors. The upshot being I got what I thought was a good price for my Fabia, was able to put a wedge in the bank and have a perfectly nice car for when I need one. So that's it guys. I really have enjoyed all the news, views and banter on here, a great site,... Oh!!!...and if anyone is looking for a Fabia 1.2 Tsi Dsg with only 18500 on the clock, it's in a garage in Grimsby "2good2trade" at UNDER 6K which is a bargain having had a full service history and gearbox oil change done with absolutely no issues during my ownership. 2good2trade are an 'offshoot' of John Roe Toyota. ( That's how come they got my Rover in as the Lady traded it in against a £28K Lexus !!) Harry

  19. Like having a cambelt with no guard so that a problem with the auxiliary drive belt (due to poor pulley design) wipes out the cambelt as well? Having just about everything electrical fail on the engine at one time or another? (1.9 dci engine). P**s poor design, p**s poor build quality and p**s poor service in my experience. I'm not going to risk that again, ever.

Blackline was a great bet....bargain new price and still holding their value well (I guess by inherrently being v good spec late model Mk2 TDI vRS and still in relative demand)...i did well on mine selling it after 12 months. Just do not expect the experience with the Mk3 to be the same. Had I known then what I know now I wouldnt have bought a mk3.

  23. So, picked up the car today - very nice and happy! Dealer says no, don't need to alter the lights as they have a flat beam horizontally. Just been outside to check as it's dark now, and yes, they do. France here we come! .. err once I buy some breathalizers, and warning triangles, and hi-viz vests, and 6 different types of fire extinguisher... oh and not forgetting the GB (Great Buffoons) sticker, false moustaches, onions on strings, Edith Piaf Greatest Hits CD..... Oh poop! My car is too small. Anyone got a New Model Skoda Superb L&K they fancy swapping for a brand new Fabia?? No? Meanies!

  39. Peak Torque on that Graph is about 1000rpm too late. Stock vRS clutch will take around 300ft/lbs but will cling on for dear life well above that if the torque comes in late (ie big turbocharger) Stock SMIC is no good above 160-170bhp, have seen 100+ inlet air temps on mildly tuned cars.

  41. I purchased a 60 plate CAVE VRS and it suffered the dreaded oil consumption thing (already had a CAVE engine replacement in 2011), I got it from a skoda dealer which given me 12 months Skoda approved warranty and after 2 oil consumption tests which consisted of 2x 180 mile journeys it still failed so mine went in for an engine replacement and now im running the CTHE. I didn't pay a penny towards any of this as skoda customer services taken into account I had the car only 2 months and jotted everything down as soon as I got the car so they paid for everything even the labour charges. You only live once, go for it.

  45. I am picking it up on the 17th June, 4 days before the National so I can take it along for people to see... done or not. What the situation is then will determine the course off action after the National. Which I am not going to speculate on. Currently I get an update every few months and requests for pictures results in nothing. I have to go up there myself with my camera. I feel I need to take a more "pro active" role in what is going on. In September it'll be three years.

  47. Latest update: Finally got round to installing the chinese cheapo dash cam Took me a while to figure out which fuses to use with my piggy back connectors, but managed to find 2 empty slots, one for ignition live, and one for perm live (as it records and saves the last few seconds when you switch the ignition off. Quality is pretty good, having watched it back on my mac in HD, so can't grumble for £16 Another bonus is the HU has video in so I can watch live, or recorded clips in the car Here is a pic of it mounted (its tiny!) And here its live on my HU Big thanks to the guys in the Octy II forum for answering my million questions Cheers Damo

  49. I did the job today; it probably took me about 1 hour per side. Here is the procedure on a 2005 Octavia 2.0 TDi. Remove the road wheel. Remove the brake calliper (15mm & 13mm spanners). Disconnect the ABS sensor connector and loom. You need to be careful not to snap-off the release clip. Sometimes pushing the connector on more can help when trying to lift the clip. If you are not familiar with the plugs then look online for a guide otherwise there is a high probability that you will break it! Remove the brake calliper carrier mounting bolts (M14 splined tool). These bolts are very tight so make sure that the tool is FULLY inserted before applying any force. If you are doing the job on axle stands then you will need to be cunning with how you loosen them. I had a long M14 spline bit (see photo) which allowed me to attach a ratchet at one end on a long extension and fit a large adjustable spanner across the flats of the bit. I pre-load the ratchet using a trolley jack under the handle to apply the force. I then used a small lump hammer to hit the handle of the adjustable until the bolt finally 'gave'. The carrier and pads can be left on the disc. Unscrew the T30 disc retaining bolt. Remove the disc from the hub. If the disc is seized to the hub then heat the disc in the area of the road wheel bolt holes using a blow torch. A tap with a lump hammer behind the disc should then release it. If necessary hacksaw through the old disc shield at one end of its narrowest section and bend the narrow section out of the way. Remove the corroded disc shield using a T30 bit. Make sure that they are fully inserted before applying any force. Cut a 55mm section out of the new shield (see photo), de-burr and paint the cut edges. Slide the new shield in place and reassemble. This procedure avoids having to undo the hub bolt which requires an M18 splined bit which needs to be replaced when refitting. I am unsure as to the purpose of the disc shields but the manufacturer would not have bothered to add weight and cost to the car had their engineers not believed there was good reason.
