  1. Home! The little Panda performed very well, I was actually pretty comfortable in it, not as bad as I was thinking it would be. Few pictures for anyone interested 0230 pick up :peek: Chilling in the decent car section at the terminal On the train, the half that has low cars is double decker! We went on the top deck The ticket even has a little Panda picture Arrived in Veurne before anywhere was open The Panos! Quick mooch about the town Quick visit to the seaside and try to spot the UK Finally a standard trip to the supermarket in Calais, the beans were obviously to keep all the cheese cool. Cost less in fuel than I thought, the Panda made it all the way to Veurne then back to Calais before needing we left at half 2 and got home at 4. Chucked the Mrs some chocolates and am now relaxing on the sofa, planning the next one.

  2. So, the car is running really well now for a few weeks (1000 miles ish) - sure it is quicker than it used to be! its damn fast even at 2bar........................................... Anyway, I have changed my mind about track use for this year - I have sold my blue track wheels to a member on here - I cannot risk track use when i need the car for doing 500 miles per week for work. I now intend on getting a new Golf Clubsport, or maybe something daft like a B7 RS4 and using the Fab as a work horse and leaving the new car at home midweek. So, i paid a visit to a local scrapyard yesterday for these...........................................as my seats are ripped and minging! Full set of MK2 VRS seats.

  3. There are a lot of discussions on several forum about the Canton sound system in Skoda. Many people say is crap, many says it is not worth the money, severeal are dissapointet but in some tests it scores pretty well. Yesterday I read in a German forum that the subwoofer only played from 50-100 hz and therefore I found out it was about time to check out what is true. 1. Before you judge, be patient! It takes 40-50 hours for the speakers to do their best 2. The subwoofer is a tiny 16cm woofer, not 2 x 15" subwoofers feed with thousands of watts. 3. Somewhere between 2013 an today the system has got an software upgrade. If you have the "old system" the following will not be true. 4. The system plays a lot better than what you read on the internet! But it doesnt give you 120 dB or earthshaking subbass. I've done some measurements today, just to see what is true and how it really perform. This has been done with a calibrated Behringer ECM-8000 mic connected to a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB soundcard. Bass, mid, treble, subwoofer and surround controls was all set to 0. (I have the Columbus 8" headunit in a 2016 Octavia Sedan.) The fader to front only and the time alignment to "Driver". The mic was placed in the driver seat in ear height. The frequency measurements showed that this is tuned very well. Its pretty flat between 200 and 4000 hz (within +/-3dB) (110 - 5500 +/- 5dB) From 30-200hz there is a broad peak, about +10 dB between 50 and 100 hz. From 4000 - 10000 it rises about 10 dB, 10000 - 20000 hz is flat. So it has a "loudness curve" built in - something you really need in a car. (I think this was not true before the software update) The subwoofer plays down to 30 hz, where it falls steep. - With the subwoofer control set to +6, you get about +3dB from 100hz and down. - With the bass control set to +6, you get about +3dB from 200hz and down. (It looks like the center frequency is 100hz) - With the treble control set to +6 you get about +3dB from 5000hz and up. (It looks like the center frequency is 10000hz) - With the mid control set to +6 you lift a very wide frequency range from about 200 to 5000hz with a maximum of +5 dB between 500 and 2000 hz. My conclusion is: - that this is VERY good and well worth the money. - you should adjust as little as possible on the "EQ" and sub settings. - that if you set your subwoofer to more than +2 you get more distortion, not more bass. - that the sub cabinet has a bad resonance on the top cover at about 50 hz that you will hear pretty well if you play to load with to much sub. - that the rear lights on my sedan rattles if you play (to) load. The ten channel D-class amplifier is feed with a digital signal and is not that easy to replace with something better if you like to upgrade. Two of the channels is feed to the passive subwoofer, and the cheapest and best upgrade you can do is to build a new passive subwoofer with two 8" subwoofers that has as high sensitivity as you can find. Or you can build/buy an active subwoofer that can use stereo high signal input. BEFORE you do that, you should use som money on noise dampening material in the car. THAT is the biggest problem with the Canton sound system in a Skoda Octavia - not the system but the car!

  4. Which of these things are entirely possible if we leave the EU:- Mainland European cars could cost 10% more in the UK Every consignment from and too mainland Europe will require an export and import entry adding tens of pounds cost and time to shipments Travelers will need to join the non-EU passports control line when visiting the remaining EU countries. UK losses the advantages of 53 current Free Trade Agreements and 16 further ones expected to be signed in the next 3 years Financial markets are factoring in GB pound to fall significantly following a Brexit vote as seen by current movements in RoE depending on likelihood of outcome World's leading accountancy firms expect UK GDP to fall between 1 and 9%, Median of around 5% if Brexit occurs. Have to adhere to EU rules to sell goods to the EU countries whilst having no say in those rules. All of them. Or you can just continue to enjoy all the above benefits and influence and VETO within the EU.

  9. Over the past year or so me and my mate started going on a couple trips into Europe in the car/van. We are a bit geeky in that we like to go and see what other countries transport systems are like, the first trip was to Wuppertal to see the train then a few months back we went to Antwerp to see their trams. The trips are pretty simple, we drive there (via the train or ferry) and normally stay for two nights, try some random foods, have a few beers, then drive home. We do tend to enjoy the slightly stranger things, we like going round the houses instead of the usual tourist places, we like to see whats different in their McDonalds compared to ours and most of all, we LOVE the bakeries and patisseries. In Germany they have a place called BackWerk which is a little bit like Greggs but self service and nicer food, in Antwerp we discovered a chain called Panos, everything we tried was lush. So, we were having a drink the other night and decided to see where the nearest BackWerk was, turns out the nearest one isnt that much closer than Wuppertal, so then we looked for the nearest Panos and found one in Veurne in Belgium. At this point we though it was a good idea to go there for a morning basically, to buy pastries then come home Just to add to the stupidness we decided we were going to go on the 420 mile trip in my Fiat Panda. The past trips were done in a MK Golf GTi (munched the miles with ease) and a Vivaro van (loads of space for 3 of us and actually quite enjoyable, just a pain to park in cities) Tomorrow is the day, booked on the first train out at 0545 and then coming back at 2 to try and avoid rush hour. I went to the Ace cafe last week in the Panda, got backache from the seats after a hour and headache from the noise after half hour, I'm sensing it's going to be a long trip, it's also my first time driving in Europe so that'll make it even more fun. Wish us luck!

  13. For your circumstances I'd say get a 1.9SDI. Awesome fuel economy, a bulletproof engine that will chug along all day and easily do 200K miles. I'd get the Elegance spec which has heated seats and mirrors. By no means the quickest Fabia but it'll do motorway speeds however you'll need to plan overtakes.

  15. Hey guys. I've decided to just go ahead with the middle box removal for £40. On closer inspection of the back box, you guys are right, It doesn't appear damaged. Think the rust makes it look worse than it actually is. Will look at getting custom catback in the near future when I have more funds. Cheers all :-)

  21. Thanks for the replies lads, i think the commercial spec is only available in ireland(cheap VRT i suppose) I work at mechanic/restoration work and needed a van that could pull a car transporter, be big enough to fit two mountain bikes inside for the weekend, be comfortable for long journeys and be fast. We already have a transit as a workhorse so wanted something a bit smaller but capable of doing the above. Originally it was between a transit connect and new caddy. Then caddy won as could get 150hp as opposed to 115hp in the connect(and connect was only 1.6 so not much pulling power) I actually went to buy a new caddy and when i test drove it i was disgusted with it. There still like an ass and cart in my opinion. Was very disappointed and wasn't sure what to buy then. Then by chance i found the yeti sherpa's, could get 150hp 4x4 with a towing capacity of 2100kg so thats how i ended up driving a skoda :-) Overall i'm happy with it, even dough its 150hp its not as fast as i would like. Will have to look at remapping it when i get everything broke in. Pros: Comfortable Heated seats are great(never had these on anything before and don't know how i done without them) Heated Windscreen is great too, would recommend this to anyone buying one(plus by ordering it i got climate control free as there's no place for the button on the standard panel) Xenons are very good(even though i've upgraded every other bulb on it now to LED's :-) 13 pin electrics on towbar also handy for the future. Great grip in the wet Google maps is great when you do get the smartlink connected Cons: Not as much punch as i would like when you floor the throttle. Its very german in the way it drives, wont let me drift at all :-( Does anyone know if i turn off esp does this only make it front wheel drive?? Smartlink is not as good/user friendly as it could be, think this is new technology so may get better in a year or so. Sound system upgrade is now the money, 450 euros and def could have gotten betted speakers for that money. Mods: Led bulb's everywhere(will post pics soon) LED Lightbar hidden behind grille 12 air compressor for breakdown work 12 to 230v inverter Dashcam hardwired

  23. I have H2GO on mine. Prep was clean glass during wash and dry. Then wipe down with IPA. G3 clay mitt. Dry and IPA again. Finally 2 coats of H2GO done 30 minutes apart. One horizontally the other vertically. There is a clear difference now. The water is totally different need wipers at 35mph and below but no streaks or smeers. 35mph and above water beads off Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7

  24. As the other said, you'll still see a massive improvement even at low speeds. Basically the water tension on untreated glass allows it to film up and give that blurry 'wet' look all over the screen and making it impossible to see through, as the water clings to the microscopic pits in the glass. With a repellent the water is forced to bead up away from the glass. It's the same difference between paintwork with protection or without - the latter just gets uniformly wet, the former beads and sheets. As such, even at low speeds you'll always be able to see through the glass clearly. The lower speeds simply mean you need to wipe, as there will be beading but not so much sheeting. For example: You soon get used to it and take it for granted, but our hire car (Mondeo) was a big shock last week. You couldn't see through the wet windscreen at all, just a blurry haze. First thing I did was clay the glass and give it a spritz of RainX (front and rear) and BSD (sides). Sorted! I wouldn't have a car without water repellent now, it's too frustrating. Having a decent repellent adds a huge safety margin when driving in wet conditions, and means you can always see out of the glass even in torrential rain or when parked up for a while. As I alluded, you can save time and cash by using a decent repellent front and back (I only used old RainX for the hire car because it was a hire car), and then using something like C2v3/BSD/whatever on the sides. Due to no wiper action the sides will last ages regardless.

  25. The red was starting to come through a lot better but I still haven't witnessed in full darkness. Typical summer months! The throttle tweak is a lot more subtle IMO and you perhaps don't notice at first, but the travel to activate is a lot less. I only have to touch it now when moving off rather than put in some effort to actually get it to engage. Had visions of putting it into the neighbours car when I reversed off Micloi's drive!

  33. Could it just be that someone's heard about using balance pipes -- like for multiple carbs, or individual throttle bodies -- and perhaps had a (maybe not so) bright idea about it perhaps improving performance on a single-carb system?

  34. I'm not advocating the use of excessive speed here but I was at traffic lights behind a seat leon fr today who when the lights turned green appeared to floor his throttle. As was a dual carriageway I pushed my TDI elegance a bit and easily kept with the leon. What I learned was that the dsg really does help hammer through the gears without lifting off throttle. Almost like riding a motorbike with quickshift (but without the speed)

  35. Most people living in cities around the world already do this. Owning a car, paying for a parking permit/space + upkeep when you can bus or tube makes it a non starter to own a car.

  36. There is no central undertray that I'm aware of, however there is reflective heat shielding around the drive shafts and along the exhaust centre section. There is a black, plastic undertray under the engine bay, which is really just designed to stop stuff flying up into the engine bay and give a small layer of protection to the sump. There are about £58 to replace from memory.

  38. Silver and metallic can look darker if the paint is loaded on too quickly the metallics bunch up, and as above the angle can affect the outcome, silver is a hard colour to match hence if you only painted a wing the rest of the side would look different.

  39. I had the ambient lighting set to white and red Coops. Red looks great at night. Glad micloi got you sorted. Unfortunately I had to work so couldn't join the party. Has the throttle tweak made a difference do you think? I'll arrange a future date with micloi when we get back from holiday. Very much want to get the throttle done.

  41. Now have registration - HG16. Ordered a space saver spare wheel as an afterthought along with door sill strips and tail gate strip but I forgot to get written confirmation. When it came to paying deposit the space saver wheel had been overlooked so car arrived at the dealer with the puncture repair and tyre inflation kit. Had a quiet chat with dealer and have got a space saver spare wheel and kit for the factory supplied price. Meaden's of Sway is back on my Christmas card list.

  44. Having worked with/for both Volkswagen and Skoda for 24 year's I can tell you now it is extremely rare to see wheels removed on a service. It's basically as little as possible for as much as they can get. As for software enhancements software updates during a minor oil change. ..no chance , he simply does not have the time. .. He has 30 minutes to find your car and your keys in the car park put a seat cover on and a floor cover and a steering wheel cover. Drive your car into the garage put the vehicle on the ramp. Find your service book. Stamp it. Print a service sheet. Collect the parts from the parts department. Check lights and levels. Drain the oil and replace the filter. Put the oil in. Do a vehicle health check. Road test (highly unlikely for them to do this at all. ). Park the car back outside for a valeter to wash it. This technician needs to sell as many hour's he can a day. So he needs to do 16 or 18 oil change services a day to remain efficient. Stay away from dealerships and most fast fit's is my advice or be prepared to drop the soap! These places have sales forecasts and shareholder's and target's to hit every month. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
