  4. Time for an update here, although I actually did the work a few weekends back. Car had a bad oil leak and was ready to have the painted manifold fitted also. I also wanted to install additional gauges in the way of oil temp and pressure and have previously used a combined SPA digital gauge so put one on order last month. The oil leak seemed to be coming from the oil filter take off probably because when I built up the spare engine I used a cheap pattern part gasket from GSF. I sourced a genuine Skoda part which had rubberised beading on both sides of the metal so looked like it was going to do a better job from the start. I also had a leak from the turbo oil return pipe where it bolts into the sump. So to get at the oil filter take off meant stripping of the front of the engine so an ideal time to change the manifold too. First off was get the car up on ramps which is quicker than faffing about with axle stands. Just needs the front bumper removed though. I also took the opportunity to tidy up the brackets and paint work of the FMIC. Once I'd got access to the oil filter take off and having drained the oil, I set about installing the sensor for the oil pressure gauge by removing the 10mm plug in the spare port. The pressure sensor has a 1/8 bsp fitting so a 10mm to 1/8 bsp fitting was screwed in first. Followed by the sensor Then it was just a question of spanner the filter take-off off the block, fit the new gasket and put it back together. No need to drain the coolant system as the oil cooler pack can be moved out of the way to access lower bolts. Then fit a new filter, clean up the oil splattered mess underneath the car and job's a good'um. New gasket was fitted to the turbo oil return pipe too. As for oil temp probe, I used an easy solution of fitting a 14mm brass sump plug that is tapped for a 1/8 nsp thread and fitted the oil temp probe down there - didn't take a photo at the time but will get one next I'm under the car. Wiring looms for both have been routed up to the bulkhead ready to be passed to the inside of the car; a job for another weekend. With that all done, on went the painted manifold and throttle body. All looks pretty now! After a few hundred miles over the following two weeks there is unfortunately a bit of an oil leak which I can now pin down to the seal between the block and the sump so that's got to come off next and as I'm not keen on the longevity of sealant particularly if applied in excess, I have bought a sheet of nitrile rubber to make a proper gasket for the sump, cost about £6 off ebay. I will report back on this in due course.

  5. It dont depend on wheel design. And you dont have to assume anything. ET is wheel offset, and that is just what you need to know - and ARE telling you how the wheel is designed. ET51 means that the centerline of the rim is 51mm offset from the hub mounting surface. Positive ET means that more of the wheel is on the inside of the hub. If you use a rim that is 1" wider than stock, you need an ET that is 13 lower than stock if you want the inside of the rim to be in the same place

We're now starting to get a glimmer of Labour policy.More public spending More power to the unions Higher taxation Less defence spending Unlimited immigration I have yet to meet anyone that has considered voting labour next time out and this includes people who have always voted labour. And bear in mind there were an awful lot of labour voters that voted leave.

  12. All unionised sectors where the gravy train is heading for the buffers as unsustainable for wages & pensions. They've been cushioned from the financial reality since 2008 which the private sector has had to go through. Sorry but people who have been squeezed for years are running out of patience for strikes and wage/pension demands whilst they struggle or face redundancy. It's why as soon as the junior doctor strikes moved from just being about patient safety to being about contract terms, wages & pensions they lost public support having yet more hospital appointments and surgeries cancelled. Same also applies to the rail and communications workers unions. The public just don't support you and have had enough of being inconvenienced.

  17. Agree with FluffyEyeball, 3/4 of a litre of 10k miles would be acceptable but to loose that much in 2 weeks there must be a problem. Get it booked into the dealer as even if they don't initially find any problems you have an investigation logged in the service history whilst the car is still in warrenty. Any problems after December (which isnt that far away) & you have proof the condition existed whilst still Under warrenty. If there are no visible signs of leakage on the sump, turbo & engine its most likely the oïl is being burnt. You don't say if you have a diesel or petrol but if its the diesel the DPF will block out most of the visible smoke. If you have a diesel I would be extra careful as oïl build-up in the exhaust can cause problems with the DPF in left too long.

  18. The tyres have been on 13 months now. 11.5K miles with the fronts on 6-6.5mm and the rears 7-7.5mm. Aiming to rotate them this w/e. No complaints at all and very pleased with my choice. Still waiting for some serious snow to test them on but we'll probably get another mild winter...

  20. Maybe I need to get in touch with the dealer and cancel my order! They certainly are about debate but more importantly they're also about debating in a grown up manner whilst not contravening the Forum Rules. For people who aren't aware, here's a few snippets:- Hopefully this gentle reminder is all that's needed to ensure that no other intervention is needed?

  21. Just because if there is no visible leak and it is loosing oil, it would suggest it's possibly internal; sometimes with that you can get oil mixed in the coolant. If it's under warranty though i'd get it looked at by the dealer before the warranty runs out. Some oil consumption is normal, but a notable amount over less than a week is definately not normal, especially if you've had no problems with it so far.

  22. I went in to the dealers a few weeks ago with the idea of ordering a new SEL Executive hatch with 1.4 ACT and DSG. to replace my 2009 Mk 11 Elegance CR 170 DSG hatch. I was offered a test drive in a TDI 190 DSG hatch just out of the showroom. I was so impressed that I decided to buy that car instead of waiting around for a new one to be delivered. I was offered a good deal. So at the end of last week I collected this Mk111 Superb L&K, TDI 190 DSG, in Black Magic Pearl with a brown leather interior and with Phoenix Anthracite 19 inch wheels. Its also got Sunblinds, Rear window wiper, Heated washer nozzles, Rear view parking camera, Sunroof, Spare wheel, DSG paddles, Smart light assist, Rear backrest release. In addition I had it fitted with front and rear mudflaps and a waste bin and had the exterior and interior sealed with the same protection I had on my old car.

  38. Hi guys , Have owned Diesels since 1980 and have covered 3.5 Million /Miles/KM's and my "Snowman" is first auto. The guy who taught me, was a "Road Train operator, 2 Milk Trailers", who did the Milk Run Longreach Qld to Mt.Isa & Return over 2 1/2 days. John had 2 Rules that he drummed into me: 1. Always allow your Diesel to warmup before driving off. 2. Never allow your Diesel to labour, if it gets close change to a lower gear. Have done 60,000 km in my "snowman" has been faultless except for "Diesel Gate" friends who driven my are also impressed.

  43. Yes it performs as if it were fitted from the factory but you will need to program it up with VCDS. If you do buy the switched charging cable at a later date you don't have to remove the bumper but you will need access to the module and wiring in the boot to mount the relay, plug the connector in and fit the ground connection I bought my kit from PF Jones and it did come with the optional bit without me paying extra or asking for it so I have a feeling you may get it anyway depending on where you buy it from.

  44. Picked up my 2.0TDI, 150PS, L&K Superb in Magnetic Brown (fabulous colour in the sunshine), with brown leather, last Wednesday and really enjoying it. It had been in the dealer's showroom as their display model so came with a few bits and bobs; and at a good price! One thing I can't figure out is that the 'Virtual Pedal' doesn't work, though it says in the brochure that the L&K comes with it as standard. I checked the VIN and the car was built at the end of May 2016. So, has there been an update to the L&K spec since May? Sold my Roomster 3 with 172k miles on the clock. Hopefully the Superb will be as good and reliable as the Roomster was.
