  1. Hello hello! Had my vRS 220 for about 3 weeks now and was struggling to find a set of wheels I liked and could afford until I got these from work! 235 x 35 x 19" fill the arches especially with the Superbs wider offset alloys. Family photo hehe! Last shot looks a little lower in the rear because of the other wheels in the boot! And my mk2 vRS fl

  2. WOOP! New wheels are on, their a different offset so they sit nicely in the arches. I went for 235 x 35 x 19" tyres aswell. The rear looks a little lower because the othere wheels are in the boot. The ride difference really hasn't changed much to be fair. I think the superb rode much harder on 19" than the new Octavia. I know some people might not like them but I do, maybe the next bit is to get the roof wrapped in black?

  3. So some of you may know I had a 3.6 Superb mk2 twindoor for a few years! I loved it very much but I did miss my mk2 fl Octavia vRS which was in Sprint Yellow! Fast forward another 3 years and here is my new vRS! It's UK registered but was originally meant to have ended up in Cyprus! Standard equipment includes spare wheel, full leather, columbus navigation included. Additional extras include illuminated door pulls and footwells which was a nice touch in my Superb. It's got smaller 17" euro spec vRS alloys (anyone who wants to wheel swap for a more comfortable ride let me know! I'm keep to find new wheels) It's really lively, I love the cheeky little tyre squeals sometimes when pushing on. I had the chance to drive the 230 manual when we had it as a demo and that was a little more vocal than the 220 I have now. It feels a lot more fun than the 280 I had for a couple of months at work too but then the Superb is much more sensible. Here are some photos of when I picked it up and the first mod when my v5 arrives is to take my L30 LYK plate off retention! Hmm my phone seems to have put some of the photos upside down!?

  4. For many years I have fitted these type of blinds to the rear windows of the various cars I have driven, usually having them supplied and fitted by the dealer from whom I purchased my car - however on this occasion the dealer informed me that this accessory was not an option from SKODA. As always the internet provided a variety of possibilities at varying costs but it was difficult to get a definitive confirmation that these would fit my new MY17 model (the suppliers seem only to suggest availability for "2009 on, 2009 to 2013, pre-face-lift model, etc.". I eventually got an absolute guarantee from Car Shades (part of the same organisation as Vanstyle UK) that their set of 6 shades would fit and THEY DO  ! Their website can be found at www.carshades.co.uk My research has shown that there is quite a differential in pricing from those that supply these shades but I am happy with what I paid for mine. The delivery time was only a few days, the packaging did an excellent job of protecting the contents from damage and upon opening it the shades that greeted me are of very high quality workmanship. Included are the relevant clips needed, a set of illustrated instructions (with an opportunity to gain further info by contacting CS direct for further guidance, which I did - don't talk to me about successfully putting flat pack furniture together!! Having finally got my head around how to fit them the job only actually took just under 10 minutes. Also included in the price is a quality pouch should one wish to remove and store the shades at any time. Should any other Yeti owners be interested I can throughly recommend these to you.

  9. Another vote here for Miele. We've got a Miele condenser and can't fault the engineering or the drying of it. Stuff comes out totally dry and virtually crease free. We hardly ever need to iron anything. A lady should know that an inch or two makes no difference; it's how what you've got's used :p

  10. If you know from your own monitoring that you have an Oil User. Excessive Oil User, You contact Skoda UK Customer Services if you have a Warranty and the Dealership / Employees are not supporting you. Get a Handler, get Approval for an 'Official Oil Consumption Test'. New Oil & Filter in, Dropped Weighed, Distance covered, but not just 300 km (186 miles) or 600 km, request it as 1,000 km (621 miles) as a minimum. Then oil drained and weighed. 857 grams a Litre. Report done. Using 0.5 Litres in 1000 km is not acceptable or anything like it as Skoda well know even if a Owners Manual says 'May use as much as'.

  12. Donald has never and will never build a wall in his life. He may take other peoples money and get other people to build it at 10x what it should cost as is the case for any taxpayer funded project. It's quite funny one of the biggest events in recent history was the bringing down of the Berlin wall now people are supporting and potentially voting to bring about the dividing of more people. And yet you still cannot make this stuff up. They are screwed no matter who gets it.

  16. Welcome, Good on you for helping. A small exception for classic's, we have a dedicated classics classifieds section. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/327-classics-classifieds/ This is only for pre 80's stuff really as it's a service to the heritage of the marque, also because it's not that common to come upon parts and it's bloody hard to find any when you're stuck for one. That's free to use, but please list parts clearly so that they can be found easily. Start a thread, just like this and reply to it as you go. You can join the supporters scheme if you like, that will get you some attachment and extra editing perks amongst other things...

  18. Hi, Just thought I'd stick up a bit of a project thread about the Fabia Elegance that I'm in the process of bringing back to life. To cut a very long story short, I bought this car for a very cheap price on eBay back at the start of July when a 'make a best offer' that I put in was accepted by the seller. The first time that I've ever bought a car completely blind like that and knowing what I now know about the car I can see why it was so cheap! Here's one of the pictures from the advert: I travelled over 150 miles to collect it, paid and then drove it home. It's a 1.9 TDi, ATD engine code and Elegance spec with a sunroof. It actually drove really nicely and didn't miss a beat on the journey. The heater did get stuck in the hot position though which I now know is pretty common! I also noticed that the traction control button didn't do anything and also that with the ignition switched on there was a distinct lack of ABS, PAS, ASR or Airbag warning lights... Due to the car being an accidental purchase that I didn't expect to buy I didn't really have a plan of what to do with it so my initial thought was to just do a bit of cleaning and polishing and get it sold on for a bit of extra money. However, after much deliberation I decided to keep it and get it nicely sorted as a winter runaround which will enable me to sell my current daily (Audi 8L S3) and get the car I really want which is a Mk1 Octavia 4x4 (another story!) Back to the Fabia. After a VCDS scan which revealed a fair amount of fault codes I discovered that the reason none of the above mentioned warning lights weren't working was because the LED's had been cut out of the cluster, in a very bodgey attempt at disguising the faults! Fortunately 'Wino' from this forum came to the rescue and repaired the cluster very cheaply for me so all the lights were then on. I've now fixed all of them for the sum of nothing. The ABS/ASR fault was a faulty sensor which I already had, the airbag light was a poor connection on the steering wheel and the PAS light has gone out since I've repaired the alternator wiring and charged the battery. Such a shame the cluster was bodged instead of just repairing the faults! In addition to this work I have carried out a full service, fitted mudguards all round, acquired and fitted a parcel shelf, fitted discs and pads all round, new wipers and number plates as well as rubber mats and a rubber boot liner. Jobs left to do are to polish the headlights (they're a bit yellow), replace the O/S/F door lock with one that matches the rest of the locks and fit the DAB aerial and head unit that I've currently got in the S3 so I can listen to Planet Rock ????????Oh and wire in an additional hidden 12V socket so I can have a phone charger without using the one in the centre console. Finally - the heater. I traced this to the very common fault of the motor that controls the heater flap (V68) going faulty. This really isn't hard to do, it just necessitates taking some stuff off! Managed to get hold of a second hand motor which seems to have fixed the problem which I'm pleased about...a new one was over £130 from VW! I'll get some more pictures up soon once it's completed. Thanks for reading Tom

  19. And then we go proper old skool. These are sets 390 and 391. A 1913 Cadillac and 1926 Renault. These date from 1975. I noticed after I took the pictures that the Cadillac has some front suspension bits missing and a bit of one the wheel arches on the Renault. These must have fallen back in the box but I do have them. You'll also notice the Renault has a computer screen built into its bonnet. Despite spreading the entire contents of the box over the floor I couldn't find the right piece so it has a piece of space Lego in its place. So it's a 1926 car with satnav but that's the beauty of Lego isn't it?

  20. I totally agree with you. My 6 was ten years old. It had a wonderful ride/handling balance and sensitive steering in exactly the way you describe. The Skoda is quiet, comfortable, well built, well finished and quite incredibly spacious but is way behind the Mazda in the driving experience. Very disappointing when considering the age gap between the cars. Nevertheless, I wanted something bigger than Mazda and this was the only car I could find at the right price that suited my needs. It is here to stay.

  21. We have the Bosch one, if you get it you have to set the drying setting higher or else it's poor. It's the reason it has so many poor reviews as people don't understand how to use it properly. It's a great machine, not noisy and doesn't pump out loads of heat. My Mrs is very happy with it.

  22. I have a White Knight tumble dryer. It has been resoundingly abused for about 8yr and hasn't missed a beat. It doesn't reverse spin so it does indeed tie larger items into knots but so so badly I'd replace it. It can also do amazing things. If you put a duvet cover in it without buttoning it shut it can put all the clothes inside the duvet cover then tie it in a ball. How the F does it do that? Magic I say.

  25. I'm not sold on selling tbh Redboy as I do have a few other means of raising the capital - one notably from a friend/investor whom I've done work with before. Obviously he wants a cut though. Even if I got 19/20 I won't lose that much as I bought outright for a cracking price so it would be just a matter of cutting it loose with no complications. I own a number of cars and for every day fun and practicality its an awesome car. Even my wife says to keep it! - this may well be a deciding factor

  27. Very slow mover caught me at the end of a straight and stuck behind it for a few miles to the next one. Car behind had just caught us up and joined in on my misery followed moments later by the rear most car. Last car in the line kept well back and didn't tailgate or do a thing to the one behind me. I overtook the thing holding us up, rear most car waited for one behind me to follow suit, but he didn't so he indicated and pulled out to overtake both, then Mr Nissan did this! The black Lexus was quite miffed and sat behind him for a bit and the Nissan seemed to be brake checking him and then just slowing right down and speeding up, Lexus made no attempt to pass him until the next long straight a couple of miles later and the Nissan floored it and tried to block him getting back in, then tailgated the black Lexus into the next town flashing his lights and indicating coming up to a service station the Lexus guy just slammed on and turned in with the Nissan following right behind him. I was so so tempted to turn around and crack out the popcorn for the ensuing battle which was about to take place, but I was on my way home from work and cba.

  36. Just thought I'd resurrect this thread in case my experience is of any use to anyone. Have an 09 DSG VRS diesel. Flywheel rattle noted on an MOT last year at 69,000 miles. Subsequent symptoms noted by myself over the last 5000 miles included: - Increasing vibration at idle, particularly in neutral and park. Would "shudder" every now and then as if a large lorry was driving past! - More of a noticeable clank on low speed downshifts from 2-1 in particular. - A quiet transient thunk when depressing the accelerator in 1/2/3. Only audible when very quiet. - Jerky / shuddery movement when slowing gradually to a stop. I realised I'd just got into the habit of releasing the brake as I came to a stop to mitigate this without realising! Dealer wanted £500 to diagnose by stripping out box to confirm flywheel actually faulty. Because the symptoms fit with what I'd read I just got them to change it. Quotes very variable: - Main dealer best £1200, worst £1400 (one told me they can't change the DMF and would need to replace the entire gearbox, won't be bothering them again!) - Local VAG specialist £1000 Having now had it replaced it's like having a new car; - All symptoms above now gone - Amazing how much quieter the car is now at idle! I reckon I just caught mine in time TBH. Glad I did.

  37. I find the ride to soft as well even in sport mode selected in DCC and mine is on 19's and also find it noisy but this is probably down to the P7's with 21k still have 5mm of tread. Will change them for Contis or P Zeros, more than likely though winters also on 19s, will being going on soon so be interesting to compare noise levels. Be interesting to see if the Sportline has any noticeable changes in the ride? Think when the Superb is due for replacement will go back to A6 and have heart rule rather than my head as the Superb was the sensible choice.

  42. Woot! Just drove my quattro for the first time Got into third gear briefly. Speedo reads zero all the time. Steering still noisy. It got a bit damp in the rain and has no passenger window at the moment. But the best bit is it beeps the horn randomly. Must be the slip ring I modified on the new wheel. Not the best when you're trying to be incognito in a car that's not road legal. But funny

  43. Main dealer for our red one. Was only 2 years old at the time, and ebay for my SE in May this year. I was the only person who phoned and spoke to the guy. People never seem to do this anymore. Can't understand it. You can learn a lot by talking to the owner. I ended up talking to him for over an hour finding out that he looked at 7 before buying this one and it was the best by miles. He was an armoury engineer on the Tornadoes at RAF Lossiemouth, in his 50's and the genuine type of guy you feel confident buying from. He was only selling cos he was doing too many miles in it travelling from the north of Scotland to his home in Hartlepool every couple of weeks. He said the car is actually too good and being an SE in this condition, rare, to be putting so much miles on and he had bought an older Golf for these big journeys. He described the car 100% accurately and phoned me when it was nearly ending but I was watching anyway. He was delighted when I won it saying that he knew I was genuine too as I already had one and clearly knew all about them. Great deal all round and the car is fantastic. Not mint, but as good as I think you'll get. Nice subtle mods, low ish mileage and drives as new.

  48. 8/9/16... New Battery! I noticed that it was a little sluggish turning over on the initial cold starts in the morning, Probably a combination of leaving the car stood last Week while I serviced/Detailed it etc, Also the car is on its original Varta Battery which is now 8 Years old. Just about to start a row of 6 Late shifts at work and Winter is fast approaching so didn't want to risk it. Called down to South Yorkshire Batteries in Sheffield this morning, Did a test on my Battery and charging system and the Battery came up Recharge although the Alternator was working fine. He said probably a dead cell and due to its age it wanted replacing which was what I thought anyway. I could have purchased a New Battery online but payed a little more for the new Battery from South Yorkshire Batteries as we used them on a regular basis when I was in the Motor Trade and like to support local businesses. Fitted the Battery at home myself, Took about 10 Mins in total. New Battery, Went for the top spec, 096 Varta Silver E44, 780 CCA, 77AH... Old original Battery, Lower spec Varta, 570 CCA, 70AH... Job done...
