  1. +1 PDR if it can be accessed. £60-100 probably. My last wife destroyed the back door panel and rear wing of my 6 week-old Mondeo, whilst driving forwards out of my in-laws drive. That was annoying.

  8. Call me old fashioned but I still check the tyre pressures (actually do the P.O.W.E.R. checks) every time I'm going on a long journey and/or every month or so. Whenever you change the tyre pressures (remember that even checking them can release a small amount of air) you must reset the TPMS to prevent false warnings.

  9. Really sorry to here that some mindless moron has damaged your car. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a safe place, like you I park as far away from the mindless masses as I can, but some **** will still come and park right next to you even though the car park is empty. I love driving and my cars, I look after them because for most of us they are a huge investment, I also tend to keep my car long term, but there are some real ass---les out here who just don't care. Not sure my nerves can take another new car purchase, I'm afraid worrying about the car being damaged takes the joy out of a new car for me these days.

  10. My roadside assistance doesn't cover me without a spare wheel in the car. Worth checking before dismissing the spare wheel option and relying on someone else to provide one.

  11. You need a custom remap, ideally done with the tuner working directly on the car. It is possible to remap the car remotely using a tuning box but it's much faster with the tuner in the car. I used to be a totally convinced that a remap had to be done on a rolling road, but I've seen several truly superb maps done on cars that were just driven, then adjusted, then driven and adjusted again until the tuner couldn't perceive any further benefit from looking at the logged data from the ECU. I used to get a lot of work done by Kenny McKinstry near Banbridge but that was on a Metro 6R4 and there are probably tuners with significantly more VAG experience elsewhere in the North. Or you could get the car on a ferry and bring it to GB for a couple of days. There are some excellent tuners in the North West if you come across to Liverpool or Anglesey.

  13. It counts as criminal damage (because of the individuals reaction to you), so you can go to the Police and make a formal complaint, who will in turn go to the Taxi operator who then have to provide details as part of the evidence for prosecution. As long as the Police pick it up - and you can force them too - then they will do the rest, especially if there is further supporting evidence from Store CCTV. You will then get at least something back via the Courts, and the person could end up with a Criminal Record. You may need to push it though. If you have Motor Legal cover then let them do the leg work. Write EVERYTHING down as soon as possible including date, time, location, description, Taxi registration, what you and anyone else saw, their details, weather (it matters), what you did and the reactions to that. Do it within 24 hours to keep it admissible as evidence. That can form part of the pack. Once you go over 24 hours things can be challenged.

  14. Really sorry , I know you must be fuming , I got a 30 minute old car doors bashed in a similar manner in 1996 . I now park in the furthest away parking spot as the spaces nearest the door are worst for this or people throwing doors open in a rush

  17. It appears his boyfriend found him if THIS can be believed. 53 year old males don't just die in their sleep from heart failure. There's something the post mortem will reveal. I hope he hasn't accidentally overdosed; what a waste of talent.

  18. Wonky - rum4mo - xman Looking at Wonky's post #38 - I have no hesitation in saying I got it wrong. :( So unreserved apologies all round! Having never seen the layout illustrated before, I wrongly made the assumption that the 'retaining collar' was removable thus exposing the innards like most racks in my motor trade days were assembled - clearly I have to eat humble pie. I think I will now have to emigrate to escape the shame of it all!!!!

  21. Sadly some did pay for Steering Racks or other parts because they were lead to believe that was required and they were out of Warranty or not covered by warranty. Now the point of this thread is Warranty Parts replaced expire when the Original Manufactures Warranty expires, even when the Parts fitted are not fit for purpose. The difference is those that Paid or another Warranty Provider paid for OEM parts get a 2 year Warranty on the parts.

  22. Maybe I'm wrong as usual, but I was reading "xman"'s postings as him being very aware that what he was discussing was a track rod/steering rod - and that part of that assembly, as used by VAG on these cars, is a ball joint/swivel end which is a sealed unit for the purposes of this discussion - ie you can not open up or service the swiveling end of the rod. Also, I'd suspect that any regreasing that can be done in service, is just a fudge to be applied only to "move a car on". Yes, I am old enough to have refurbished track rod inner ball joints, ie new nylon cup and spring, retighten, drill and secure with a pin hammered in.

  23. 'Faulty Manufacturing, Materials, or use / fitting', resulted in a TPI on the parts that the VW Group knew they sourced and Skoda fitted, so Warranty Replacement took place, months and months of Owners being told, 'They all do that', The lady that works in the offices has a Fabia that does that, etc. That was while people reported issues when putting cars in for 'Skoda Main Dealer Servicing etc.' So wear and tear and lack of servicing is not an issue, other than Servicing being a Look See and ignore, even after the TPI was issued.

  24. xman, you are not reading and understanding what people are telling you In post 19, you yourself stated "Bit difficult as they appear to be sealed ball joints." This indicates clearly that you are looking at the outer end - WHEREAS, we are all talking about the inner end which can be dismantled and re greased or replaced. This part is within the steering rack boot.

  26. Oh wait, you're right, FNK is Skodas own box, the 1.2 will use a VW box for cross-platform compatibility with all the Polo based cars.

  27. Pray tell, how do you lubricate that ball joint and why do Skoda UK replace them, no questions asked?

  33. Great for those that work on multiple cars but I was just looking for a cheap way to test my skoda. Got as far as buying a tyre valve for £2 and will get a spare cap online for £4.25. Bit of tinkering and should do the job.

  35. No dancing lights? I'd be asking for one hell of a Freeby from the dealer I'd purchased it from. Demonstrate the zero dancing lights before you give it to them, you cannot disable this by yourself so they cannot fein 'no fault found' to you when you get it back. Make sure you test it on collection so you deep know they did something! How long have you had your car? By not activating your lights correctly during PDI, your car has possibly been non roadworthy (when headlights are required anyway) all along and therefore possibly your insurance along with it! Pure incompetence, who knows what else might not be activated! As compensation, a free FULL service (all filters and oils + inspection) or cash back would be what I'd be after. It was sold dangerous, you deserve compensation.

  36. take it to a proper painter, give him the paint code, disassemble the grill and remove the badge. when its painted reassemble and fit new genuine badge. personally i think its worth the time and expense to do the job properly rather than rattle can or plastidip. it cost me an hours time,£40 for the professional paint job and about £12.99 for the new style genuine badge

  42. Hey guys, just a quick update that Arnold Clark have decided to pay nearly all the cost of the replacement, including flywheel, with a £300 contribution from me. So for once, I may actually say something good about them as they've been pretty good with the whole thing, no arguing and the manager I've been dealing with has been a star. So hopefully that should be the end of it, now to decide to keep to the car or get rid...

  45. Hi Newbies This part of the forum is basically just for saying hello... and you can let us a know a bit about yourself and your car if you so wish. If you have a specific query, we would be grateful if you could post it in the relevant section… For example, you need advice on a battery for your Octavia?... then post it in the Octavia mk1, mk2 or mk3 section…whichever model applies to yours. You want to know what polish is best for your car's colour?… then post in the Styling and Car Care section etc etc... I promise you will get more views/replies that way, and also save us Mods a job moving it for you One final tip… If you need to know the answer to a question, chances are its been asked before, so try the search bar in the top right of the screen (Sometimes best to use general terms rather than be too specific for better results) Thanks, and Welcome to Briskoda
