  3. Hey everyone. A friend of mine at work picked up his new to him X5 the other day and asked if I could improve the finish and add a decent amount of protection for him. So I got up bright and early and headed round to his to get this beast looking its best. So Powermaxed TFR was applied at 10:1 and I set about the wheels, first with KKD Brakeaway and then Powermaxed Fallout remover. The barrels of the wheels need a bit of TLC, so at some point in the future we plan on whipping them off and getting some acidic wheel cleaner on them. After a pressure wash rinse the car was washed with G3 Bodywork Prep, clayed with an Angelwax Glide Decon Block using shampoo dilution and Fallout remover as lube. Then the car was rinsed and dried ready to be examined under a bright light source. The car had already been mopped by the BMW garage as it was a real mess according to my mate when he first saw it. So I set about it with Sonax Perfect Finish on a green CG Hexlogic pad on the rotary. A little bit better, but really it needs a couple of day spending on it with a two stage polish. The paint is ridiculously hard! So on to the door. Again, not perfect, but a definite improvement. So I made my way around the car. Then it was on to protection. So I gave the car a thorough wiping down with AW Stripped-Ease and then applied AW Ti-22 to provide a tough, durable sealant. Left that for 15 mins to cure then applied a layer of AW Fifth Element to add some serious gloss and further protection. The wheels were protected with Arte de Shine Repelcoat and tyres dressed with Carchem Rubber Wax. Finally the exhausts were tidied up with Autosol and the door shuts protected with Sonax BSD. All in all, just under 8 hours hard graft. A few afters for you guys. Hope some of you guys find this useful. Thanks for looking everyone!! Neil

  8. My new Bike arrived yesterday (before my new pedals for it did) & just waiting for a bit more light to go play in the forest. A bit wet now but heavier rain and wind forecast for the rest of the week so might as well get some time on it now. I tried it last night after setting it up and i really like the dropper post. I should have had one long before now.

  9. I'll add mine for you "U241170" as mine is Quartz Grey. I looked at loads of pictures of that colour and Business Grey when trying to decide on a colour and came to the conclusion they all looked slightly different - the only answer was to find one is real life.

  10. I've retrofitted all those things. My advice would be to buy a mk3 steering wheel as the mk2 one s awful. Go for a dab Columbus as they are great and integrate with the car very well. Rusty nuts is the man for this as he mentions above

  11. I purchased my 2011 octavia vrs fl 2.0 TSI (64,000 miles) from my local Evans Halshaw in March 2016. Having just had a land rover, I decided to go for the service plan and warranty. When I got home and read through the list of what's not covered I wondered if I'd just thrown money away! I had 9 months of trouble free driving until, just before Christmas, I finished a 100 mile motorway journey and the car went into limp mode and the engine management light came on. I called the number for my recovery plan and the AA came out, couldn't diagnose the fault and so escorted me to EH where I left the car. After Christmas, I got a call to say that piston rings had cracked poss due to a faulty injector and had damaged the engine. Now really bricking it, I asked them to keep in contact about prices for a reconditioned engine and was told not to worry too much. Anyway... I have just received my car back with a brand new factory engine, injectors and turbo all 100% covered by the warranty. This has not cost me a penny, they've even washed the car and found £2.50 under my seat. After reading all of the horror stories online about warranties not being worth the paper they're printed on, I felt I had to post this somewhere to say that, sometimes, they're worth their weight in gold!

  12. Okay - We have a solution in case anyone else gets the same problem! The pipe that spigot on the o/s headlight washer had snapped. It remained up in the air so only lost a little water until it found its level. On the flat you could hear water running briefly and eventually finding its way out from under the S%$t Shield as my mechanic calls it. The water droped just enough to trigger the light but no further. Been hunting for one all day as it looked expensive. Rang breakers everywhere but they only sell with a bumper. In the end I phoned the dealer and it was only £29 pls VAT and here tommorow. Very easy to see if have a pit and only needed the shield off. Not the dreaded bumper again! I have attached a photo of the bit. The coloured panel unclips if you push the piston out from behind and get somone to grab it. I think it would have been an MOT failure as Xenon washers are in there now. n/s wasnt working as it also needs the pressure to push it out and spray. My mistake was trying to get the washers to activaite when on automatic. You have to have the Zenons turned on in daytime then it tries to clean them every 5 times you clean the windscreen. Thanks for all the advice. Garnett

So I'd pick the Citroen DS Well ahead of it's bagged; air ride, grandchildren. Rear couch for sleeping too while I await rescue . Headlights that turned with the steering. It's that or the HY van.

  17. Hi DC I can forgive them that as the brochure at least details the kit that you are going to actually get on your car, whats to say that the specification of the LH Drive cars that are being shown will be what you'll get in the UK, we already know that cars for the Irish market although RH Drive have different specifications and names to the UK ones. This is an important car for Skoda however you wouldn't think so by the way its being launched. I'm not buying one, so not my battle however I feel sorry for those that are and want to know exactly what they are getting, I mean why would you need a "Scout" version and I would be really upset to order an SE L or Edition and then find out a couple of weeks afterwards that there is going to be a Sportline version. I just think that they could have done this better.

  19. Sorry but no again. Around 1 - 1.2 bar when the system is cold, yes. The amount the water expands is relative to the amount of water in the system and the temperature of the water. You could work it out at any set temperature if you knew the volume and were clever enough. The amount the pressure rises also depends on the size of the expansion vessel which is taking up the expansion. In short. Its normal for a system pressure to rise to 2 bar when hot. Theres no indication of an air lock due to that.

  23. I don't envy you mate! Just to give you an idea of how i'm rerouting things, This is the washer bottle water pipe and then plug These 3 will be run from the back of the engine to their plug locations, to keep them hidden, Check out my horrible chassis notch done by havair, I'm having it redone before it comes back on the road and the inside of the legs will be painted too All the power cabels that run to the junction box will be run together to keep things neat My way of keeping things organised haha Splitting the loom into sections, this decision is based on where the plugs run to on the car Still waiting on the turbo, having some pins made up for my adaptor and the guy who was supposed to be making them has been off.

  24. Little update... The car has almost been stripped of its life... And now nearly standard leaving the smooth bumper and grill left to do. Everything has just about sold of the little beast and it will be sadly missed. I've had some awesome times in the car and some of you was there to join me. Ant

  26. It came with the 19" Extremes as above. The wheels in the previous picture are my 18" winter wheels, I actually haven't a clue what make they are, they were a lucky eBay find. They had just been fully refurbished and came complete with nearly new Vredestein winter tyres for less than the new price of the tyres alone!

  27. Phil, mixture of Zinc plated and painted. When i I restored the 306 GTI6 I used all Zinc plates ones, but they don't last too long in the exposed areas, hence the painted finish on some just to finish it off better and give them more protection than untreated ones. Plus us I like it lol

  29. Right, First off I'm sorry I haven't been n the forum to update you, life's been full or a lot of things at the minute and I just haven't had a spare 5 minutes the think lately, so I apologize that this update has come so late but it's here now and you can all calm down. So I was going down a single lane tarmac road covered in mud, the road had a steep bank on the left and a ditch on the right and it was a slight blind left hand corner. A car came the other way and tried to pull off towards the ditch, I skidded on the mud, scraped along the bank and hit him (VW Fox) in the rear of the drivers door down to the back of his car pushing him over towards the ditch. Damage caused to his: Door creased, rear panel creased, wheel and tyre knackered, probable suspension damage. Damage to mine: Bumper, wing, bonnet, fog light, suspension/steering damage. Both cars were still "derivable" but not safe so were both driven slowly to my workplace and his home which were nearby. Insurance was contacted, car was picked up 2 days later and a courtesy car delivered. Courtesy car was picked up half a week later when the garage phoned to say mine was declared a cat D. So if anyone wants a bargain of a car and sees the Monte up for sale (DE62 FNF) then grab it, as it runs perfectly, drives very well and will have just had an estimated £4000 spent on the front end. The insurance company actually said it was very clean and well looked after for its age and mileage so there's a plus. But if any of you do end up with this car or know the person that does get it then please get in tough with me as I have the service history, owners manual and also the second key somewhere. But anyway, that's the end of that chapter, Green Giant is next and it's already an interesting one...

  33. Hi - I have a Westphalia Towbar and Control Box fitted to my car. I diod the towbar myself and the garage put in the electronics and coded the car (and checked my instalation). I have no issues with light assist at all. When a lightboard in plugged in, the automatic speed sign recognition does the neccesary corrections for the country i am in and the car shows the trailer on the Maxidot. There is a green repeater when the igntion is on on the dash. If anyone needs one, I do have a brand new Westphalia Control box (I am a Freedom Member). I bought it from France on ebay with everything but the vcable that goes from the box to the trailer socket. Westphalia did not have any to sell me so I ended up buying a second complete kit. That means i have a spare if anyone needs it!

  34. Neil, I think you certainly managed to achieve your mate's criteria of improving the look and adding great protection, great results there with some great products!! When we put our detailing heads on we always strive for perfection but I bet your pal was over the moon with the results, certainly within the day!! I'm assuming too he's not a detailer so would view it with s different eye. I'm certainly not wanting to take away your great results and I feel for you regarding intensive labour; the lower half of the car being a back breaker, especially if you're tall like me! If all my Christmas Days came at once I'd be wishing for a scissor lift for sure!! Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the AW products, keep up the amazing work!! regards David

  35. Read the water ingress thread sticky at the top of the page from start to finish all of these cars let in water, dry out the car thoroughly, there will be a lot of water in there and if the car is 11-12 years old and the fix was never done or done poorly then the car has been wet for a long time so the wiring/multiplugs will have corrosion as jimbof says above, do a proper job or it will be an ongoing nightmare.

  36. Yes mate, I think during the summer, on a black car, Ti-22 could prove difficult to apply! But for spring and winter prep details it's perfect. I will do the Superb with it later in the year and let you guys know. It's getting to the lower panels that's the issue. A car jacking system in a unit would be a saviour for my back! Haha. Alas, I don't have that luxury. Yes mate, time-wise 5 hours is fine, but the vibration from the DA would be a different kettle of fish!

  38. Hi All - so i used to do a dedicated thread for my weekend detailing routine.... but lack of time and detailing ended that! Sometimes interesting, sometimes some new products in there, sometimes good to start product discussion, etc So i thought to re-start these.... see if it is of interest. Diving right in - i had taken delivery of a few products on Saturday, purchased in the iShine payday sale. Plus a new wheel brush to test out and the Z4 roof needed the rubber seals treating - looking very dry. So both the .:R36 and Z4 sorted on the day, but slightly differing routines due to time allocated. I had the Z4 all day, but the R36 was out taking the kids to swimming, shopping etc. Products of interest: - Waxaddict Subzero Wax - Waxaddict Slick rims tyres dressing A typical foam, rinse and 3BM wash routine, but to elaborate on detailing products used:- Z4 - ValetPro Citrus pre-wash applied to the whole car and left to dwell - Rinsed then foamed with AD foam lance using Bilt Hamber Auto foam, and left to dwell - Badges, door shuts, boot lip and fuel filler all APC'd and detailing brush to agitate. - Car then rinced of foam and APC. - Alloys with dooka wheel shampoo, various brushes and wheel mitt, then rinsed - Tyres APC'd and scrubbed with stiff wheel brush - Wash with Britemax Cleanmax Shampoo and i6 Auto wash mitt - Rinsed with filtered water supply - Towel dried with CYR twisted pile towels; and the remainder blown dry with pet drier. - Exhausts polished with Meguiars NXT metal polish. - Door shuts, exhausts and alloys, wipedown with Sonax BSD. - Tyres with Waxaddict Slickrims dressing - Interior wipedown and clean with Dr Leather wipes. Stubborn stains with AD Leather Cleanse. - Roof opened up and parked mid-way for clean and nourish of all rubbers and seals. - Roof fully-opened and all exposed plastics cleaned with EZ Sleek, and UV protectant to finish. - Paintwork then treated to Waxaddict Subzero wax and buffed. .:R36 - ValetPro Citrus pre-wash applied to the whole car and left to dwell - Rinsed and a decent amount of the main grit and grime seen to fall off. - Foamed with AD foam lance using Bilt Hamber Auto foam, and left to dwell - Badges, door shuts, boot lip and fuel filler all APC'd and detailing brush to agitate. - Car then rinced of foam and APC.... leaving almost a halo of grime and dirt on the driveway! - Alloys with dooka wheel shampoo, various brushes and wheel mitt, then rinsed - Tyres APC'd and scrubbed with stiff wheel brush - Wash with Britemax Cleanmax Shampoo and i6 Auto wash mitt - Rinsed with filtered water supply - Car then sealed with KKD Purity-X via foam lance 15ml to 1L dilution. - Rinsed again with filtered water supply - Towel dry with CYR twisted pile towels; and the remainder blown dry with pet drier. - Door shuts, exhausts and alloys, wipedown with Sonax BSD. - Door rubbers treated with Gummi pflege - Tyres with Slickrims dressing - Finished just as darkness fell - so interior to do another day. So a few comments on products used..... KKD Purity-x.... a really awesome product for winter detailing i find. I only had the .:R36 from about 2.30pm on Sunday - so time and daylight was limited. As i recall, 5ml to 500ml is a good guideline for dilution in foam lance. I use 15ml to 1L. Using foam lance.... cover the car in the resultant weak looking foam, leave for 5-10 mins to fizz and activate with a rinse to follow. Auto Rae-Chem Wheel brush Looks like an EZ detail brush copy; but purchased this one via ebay at £9.75 delivered. So about half price on the main EZ item.... initial impressions ok, we shall see how long it lasts. Waxaddict Slick rims Tyre dressing I've certainly enjoyed testing a few WA products in recent times; normally very good performers and cost effective too. Shame that the Halford's "deal" appears to have been dropped as this was a real big selling point for me!!! Anyway - my currentl tyre dressing performs well.... but its greasy, messy and starting to annoy me a bit. This product is very different..... and a pleasant change. A little product goes a long way... i wasted a load of product as i over applied. If you try it out - you will see that its easy done as well! once under control and applied correctly it needs to cure and dry for the final finish. A wipedown before fully dried results in the matt finish. The mix includes some SiO2 tech - so will allegedly boost longevity of the finish. I will monitor this for sure.... Waxaddict Subzero really interested me as i'm a real waxwhore when it comes to detailing as you all kow by now! But at these temps.... around 2 to 4degC, it's a tricky time of year to use wax and ensure it cures correctly. The wax itself contains a balanced mix of polymer and organic wax blended with fast drying oils to aid curing times. Allegedly - "will cure within 8 minutes at 0-5C and leaves superb gloss, ultra strong water beading and tough durability." It certainly needs to be applied thin, which was achieved using the AP wax puck and soft 80mm black pad. Smells nice - menthol. Left too long intentially on test panel >10 mins - what an absolute pig to buff. I then found a 5min cure time easy to work with. So really 1 or 2 panels at a time i would say..... and very nice results. Some over night rain.... and beads look very healthy indeed.... see photos below when uploaded.... <<<Pics to follow.... uploading.>>> Thanks for reading guys.... and constructive feedback or comment welcome. Cheers, Ste.

  39. Original mudflaps? In that case you use the bolts/screws already on the car, so you could check yourself if need be. Three bolts/screws on the back side of the wheel arch.

  40. Sorry to hear about the busted finger, hope it mends soon! So for anyone without mud flaps the arch liners would be a simple fit without any trimming or modification required? Could you post a list of all the part numbers that you used or is this already documented elsewhere?

  41. Yeah I would give it a chance, aki78 has said on a couple of occasions they need wearing in for the colour to settle, I wouldn't be surprised if that extends to flickering. I know mine look better after about 10 hours of use.

  42. 66 Reg Superb 190 4x4 DSG SE L Executive estate. It's the second one I've had. We'll sort of as my previous one was the facelifted mark 2 but same spec. This car is a dream to drive compared to the mark 2. It's so much more refined. The ACC is amazing and when driving in the fog the front facing radar saw cars ahead before I did! I've tested it from 60 mph to a complete stop also (while covering the brakes of course!!) and it performed flawlessly and then moved off again when the car ahead did. I tow a caravan with mine so have had the integrated towbar factory fitted. Better than the palarvour I went through last time with an after market fit . The auto zoom on the map is a new feature for this model which is nice. My only query is why there isn't a green light on the dash to show if your head lights are on. I run mine on Auto mode all the time. Experimenting with the driving modes at the moment. Currently using the Eco mode which has a nice coasting function on it. No idea of figured yet though for fuel consumption. All in all I absolutely love the car. Beautiful to look at. The best yet and a dream to drive.
