  6. Yes, it's true, I have just forked out my £20 for another 2 years Freedom membership For those who aren't 'green', this is fantastic value for money You get to feel good about yourself by contributing towards the upkeep of such a wonderful source of information, which often proves invaluable when problems arise, and can often save you that amount several times over Think of it in terms of a low division football match - it would probably cost you almost that much to see 90 minutes of a dreary game in the pouring rain Or the equivalent of a few packets of fags I'm not sending anyone on a guilt trip, but generally speaking, if you run a car, and that's the reason most people come on here, it's a very small cost for 2 years of awesome entertainment Anyway, please accept my apologies, but I'm in for another 2 years

  9. Hi fella. Gtechniq C2v3 is the ideal product for topping EXO, CSBlack, CSLite, etc... Simply wash with Gtechniq Gwash car shampoo, then either: Dry with the Gtechniq Diamond weave microfibre drying towel, spray two or three squirts of C2v3 onto the cloth and wipe over a panel, turn over the cloth or use another dry one to buff off. or Sheet off excess water using an open end hose and gently let the water run off the car. Then using a good pile microfibre cloth spray the squirts of C2v3 (diluted 1:1 or 2:1 with water for this purpose to use as a drying aid) onto the cloth and wipe over a panel, turn over the cloth or use another dry one to buff off. I've used Gtechniq for years and C2v3 is great for topping other Gtechniq coatings or used as a stand alone sealant. Don't forget to register with Gtechniq for a good 7.5% on all orders no matter how big or small. Create an account and message Rob for 7.5% off http://www.gtechniq.com Allow a couple of days for the team to process the registration before placing your order. They should send you an e-mail to confirm though.

  10. Bought some of this new AG product @ £9.99 over two weeks ago and applied it as directed. It still looks great after all the messy weather we've had since then. Anyone else tried it yet - and with what results?

  12. Depends on time and place, but normally a bit more speed doesn't get you there faster. I was off up to Lincoln yesterday. No real rush, but doing the limit. There was some bloke in an accord leap frogging, so I eased off and let him past. He then did an overtake on a blind crest, which resulted in him getting a bit close to a car coming the other way. 15 miles later and several more overtakes on his part, we got into Lincoln and I was behind him at a set of lights. Kinda shows it doesn't make any difference.

  14. C2v3 as advised above and some decent microfibres for application and removal is all you should need - although this is almost an optional step, such is the quality of protection already applied. The usual advice of regular 2-bucket safe washing, with a decent free rinsing pure shampoo (Gwash or similar) and a quality drying towel should keep the coating clean. cheers Chris

  17. Autoglym is great stuff. It tends to just get looked over for things with more bells and whistles but it does the job and leaves a great finish. The wheel cleaner is acid based though so as Karl says just be careful with it and you'll be fine.

  18. If you have an accident and god forbid can't get out of the car or need hospital treatment then expect your insurance not to pay up and the lease company recover their costs through the courts. You will be looking at a £25k debt. Your credit future will be screwed, you may have fines and points for no insurance. It is really worth it for a car that has adequate performance and isn't really a sports car. Lee

  21. Now that is just plain silly. Most Scots no more hate the English than the English hate Europeans. THis is all really very simple. Scotland and England signed a treaty just over 300 years ago. We rubbed along pretty well when both seemed to want the same things. Now it seems our populations desire different things. It's not a matter of hating anyone. THink of it like this, most of us spend many years living with mum and dad (or variations on that theme). Eventually most of us decide we want to do our own thing and off we go. It doesn't mean there is hatred involved. Not a perfect analogy but your post was frankly rather silly and ill conceived.

  23. FYI - an uprated rear anti roll bar will make a huge difference to the body roll. Easily fitted and reversible if you ever need to sell the car. Might be an idea to get this fitted at the same time as the springs.

  26. Thankyou for replying bigJohn. Firstly I would agree with you on the early mondeo's with ref to case hardening on pump and injectors. On the three mk3 mondeo's that I had I never experienced the pump issues on my first I did have an injector issue with coding which was rectified. I've had to replace all the dmf on all five of the mondeo's that I've had. they were expensive to begin with but they did come down in price. The 1.6 I wouldn't touch simply just not enough power or torque to cope with daily use and the turbo issues is another story. The mk4 and 4.5 use the tried and tested 2.0hdi engine and they are brilliant. The problem I have when choosing a vehicle is I'm 6ft 3 and need leg room for me and the customers behind me and there are very few cars that can do both to date only the mondeo and superb do it well. Toyota love the concept just not enough room.

  27. golf has different axle loads to a vrs so although the springs might physically fit they won't necessarily have the correct rating. eibach do a "pro" and "sportline" option for the vRS - pro is a mild drop, sportline a bit more.

  28. Better take it off indeed- but NEGATIVE terminal. That's general rule. Idea: if you take off only "+", you still have possibility to make short circuit when accidently touching with spanner "+" terminal on battery and vehicle body alias "-".

  29. The Skoda's are notoriously known for being on stilts from the factory. The interesting thing is that on all the marketing materials and official photos, the car is often lowered what looks to be around 40mm. And theres even photos from car fairs that show the suspension being compressed by tie downs. So obviously its not the designers and marketing department that wants the high car

  32. Earlier this week, my partner told me that the Octavia was not running properly. She had been out for the evening, and it had been fine on the way there, but when she came to drive home it was lacking power and the engine warning light was coming on intermittently. I started it up the next day, and it was pretty obvious it was running on only three cylinders. I did not have time to look at it until today, but in the interim I had my fingers crossed that it was a simple fix. I had some new coil packs in the garage, so I thought they would be a good place to start. I removed the first coil pack and replaced it with a new one. When I then started the car, it appeared to be running perfectly. I could not believe it could be so quick to fix, so I swapped the coil pack back to check. The problem symptoms duly reappeared. So I refitted the new coil pack, and took the car for a test drive. All good. I cannot quite believe my luck how my first diagnosis was correct, and how the first coil pack I replaced was the faulty one.

  33. We have owned the Monte Carlo now for nearly 2 years. Unfortunately a few months ago I discolated my knee so not driven the car for a while, so my wife has been driving the car for short journeys. This is my first full week back driving so been out for a long drive today and I forgotten what a great car this is. It's comfortable and light pedals help with the recovering knee, it's just a fun car to be in. Not one thing I hate about the car, just love it.

  35. There are a host of facelift models for sale either through Autotrader or through Skoda dealers for about £10 - £11K. if you buy through a Skoda dealer you will get a guarantee. Unless you definitely need 4 wheel drive I would go for a 2 wheel drive version - better MPG and less to go wrong. Similarly unless you really want a diesel I would go with the petrol versions - no VW 'cheat' problems to deal with and it looks like diesels are going to be caned in the near future because of NOx emissions. The Yeti is a car driven by all ages so no worries there. If you are a young driver the 1.2 Tsi is in a low insurance group so cheaper to insure than many and you should get about 40+ MPG - depending on how you drive of course! Incidentally if you thinking about 4 wheel drive because you are worried about winter snows etc. then you would be better off investing in a set of winter tyres on steel rims. A 2 wheel drive on winter tyres is a better bet than 4 wheel drive on summer tyres.

  37. Doh sorry, just noticed, on a phone. Best have your plugs out and checked. Failing plugs cause Coils to fail prematurely. You might not get all misfire codes if not enough in a cycle, ie car under load because you lift the throttle.

  40. To be blunt, I think the reason opinions will differ is the first two points are too subjective and the 3rd point is going to require someone to have done some vey careful tracking of their fuel because the maxi dot will not be accurate enough to measure this in my view. I've switched to 18" --> 17" for the winter. I don't think the ride was firm with the 18s on, I think it absorbs the broken up roads in the Peaks a little quieter. I'm not sure it's quieter, probably not as I'm running winter/mud/snow tyres with the tread that entails. Not gonna talk about 3 - I have the v6. I don't want to know! If you really want to make the switch, I personally wouldn't bother sticking to Skoda wheels - there are a lot of VAG group wheels for sale on eBay. I went for Dezent for winter wheels - the finish seems to be very good and resilient. Cheers, Steve P.S. I also think the stereo is a little tinny but not so bad as you're suggesting. Playing with the basic EQ has improved things a little there to my ears...

  41. My only Citigo woe so far is the lack of electric mirrors on the MC. You get them on the SE-L which costs less?? Otherwise the heated seats would have been nice as I do miss them a little from the previous 2 cars but I'd have had to wait for an SE-L, and spec black wheels and tints, then remember to turn the start/stop off every time I used the car, and the MC has the nice body kit so still happy

  43. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/seat-leon-st-cupra-300-4drive-review/35775 Full review posted today on PH. Seems that there will be a manual 2wd version afterall. Can't help thinking though that SEAT will not have an easy task shifting these - the interior (and the overall image) isn't as good as VW products and the price differential for a 4wd Cupra ST is is only £800 quid according to PH...

  45. Sorry I can't help with the specific question about the seats other than to say I have seen a few Sportlines at this stage in Ireland and all had manual adjustment on the passenger seat. That doesn't mean it isn't an option of course and I know how difficult it can be to drag that info out of a dealer! Fair play to you guys for going with a petrol Superb! Diesel power is definitely overrated in this country and there are far too many people that have been misled by the thinking that diesel is always best. Crazy how many people doing sub 10k kms a year are in diesel cars. It will be so nice to see something a bit different on the road especially the 280. I know I have a diesel myself but I do 40k+ a year so makes sense for me but if I was doing normal mileage I'd definitely be considering a petrol.

  47. Don't define the value of the car by what the insurance search engine robot spits out as fair value. Something's only worth what the seller is prepared to let it go for, or what the buyer is prepared to stump up for it. I bought (a few years ago now) a 1 year old 1.4TSi Elegance hatch with 14k miles on the clock and paid £14,450 for it. I'm not a good negotiator and paid the sticker price, but most similar cars at that time were being advertised for £16k. I could have bought an Avensis for slightly less, but I didn't like it. I could have bought a Fabia for a lot less, but the boot was tiny. Was my car worth £14.5k? It was to me, and 3 years on I'm still more than happy with it. After all, it's a £21k car according to list price, and a new one could be had through a broker for £17.5k, so £14.5k after 1 year seems reasonable. In the meanwhile prices went down (the mk3 became less new) and some time later my brother-in-law bought an almost identical car that was 1 year old at the time for £12.5k, when most similar vehicles were being advertised for £14k. Do I care? Do I think I wasted £2k? No, I chose from what was available at the time. Since diesel-gate the prices for these cars went up a bit again. Such is life. Regarding insurance payouts, they will pay 'market value' and that will be determined at the time of the claim. My wife once wrote off a 7yr old Clio (not worth anything, so not hard to do) and we eventually got £2.5k from the insurers after an initial offer of £1k. All we had to do was find a few examples on Autotrader, get a CAP valuation from our local friendly car dealer (or Ford's website if you want) and e-mail the evidence. Job done. And remember that the insurance payout should be for replacement cost, so franchised dealer prices for a car still in warranty would be a valid yardstick (although it will be comparable prices for the age/mileage it is at the time of the claim, not the age/mileage it was when you bought it).

Got Zenith Anthracites on for my winter wheels in case you're wondering.
