  1. Well, thanks to Nuriyan (Justin) who is one of the selfless individuals listed elsewhere on this site who offer coding help, my car now has an Aussie accent & a nice big MPH display. So another massive thank you to Justin who is both a gentleman & a scholar!

  5. I went from a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TDi to my Superb 'S' (so lowest spec possible) and obviously it's a lot quieter - but I would say that my general impression is it's a quiet car anyway, even with a 1.6 TDi chugging away in front of me. Can't really compare to modern large cars, last big car I had was an 'X' reg Peugeot 406 estate. Definitely quieter than our 1.4 TDi Polo, but not much isn't...!

  6. This is disappointingly tame. Where is the supercharged Kawasaki ZX-12 with a custom exhaust made from bean cans, NOS and wheels off a mini; or a Maserati he's picked up for £500? Tell him to take a hike until he comes back with some real disaster-porn. His fans are waiting!

  9. It was the start of a whole debacle. They sent him a 2.0 a month or so later. But it was the wrong colour. Lol. Anyway, this was a 2014 car. He now has a nice S3 SE Technology on order same as mine. Will crack me up if it's incorrect.

  11. I've opted for the towbar for bicycle rack. Even I didn't fancy putting the bikes on the roof for exactly this reason.

  12. The mode won't matter. You'd have the same power in all modes. Differences will be the same as pre-map i.e Throttle response, sound actuator volume, DSG in different mode etc.

  13. @BillyJim First, apologies: I don't have "almost 400 Gb's" of music. I have 300 Gb's. I had 400 when I had my 128 and 256 gig SD's full. But, I had the same 10,000 file problem as you. I had to keep deleting music until I got the file count on each card down below the 10K file limit. But, a 5Mb mp3 file and a 400Mb flac file both count as one. (The trouble with huge flac compilation files: I can't pick out tracks. I can't seem to work out how to add track markers.) WAV files are lossless and big, but don't hold metadata, like album art, so I used Apple lossless m4a files, instead. They don't take up as much space, but space is not the problem on these large SD's, file count is. My 128 SD card has 114 gigs on it, my 256 SD card has 132 gigs on it, I have a CD in the drive and a 32 gig USB stick in the slot. Plus, a 64 gig SD card of classical music which never seems to find a home and spends its time in a SD card wallet I bought and is now full of unused SD cards. The Columbus Jukebox is full, too. So, on the drive back from Hull, "we" listened to Radio 4. Women's Hour.

  16. Handed the keys back today to the client of this beauty, KTM Adventure, following a full decon, safe wash & protection. Protection came in the form of ACF50 on the hard to reach & exposed areas, as well as underseat, with the tank, plastics & screen receiving a ceramic coating. Needless to say, the client found the finish "awesome" & he managed to get it home before the heavens opened!

  22. I checked it once, this so-called "green score", soon after getting the car and having just done a non-stop journey of a little over 100 miles. I can't remember the exact score but it was near the top in the high nineties and the entire leaf was green. It gave me a maximum 100 score for doing 90 mph but knocked it down considerably for doing a constant 50 mph in roadworks. Almost the entire journey was on ACC with DSG. That was also the first and last time I could ever be asked to look up the "green score". As for "drive green"...

  25. I don't think there'd be a massive change with just a cat back exhaust and filter. The exhaust probably won't be much less restrictive than standard, so personally I wouldn't get it mapped again.

  26. Yes, that's the part number I would try to get, for a 2007 Mk1 Fabia. I don't know which brand to recommend, sorry. Let me know if you want help getting it to you.

  27. Reminds me of The Fast Show sketch where the South African beautician (Arabella Weir) says something outrageously rude to someone but adds the rider "no offince" at the end, so that's alright then. Alternatively you could just ignore vexatious reportage. I would.

Need a short ride to check the belt drive is correctly set up so that on Monday I can have a bit of a ride out and maybe use my new Garmin 345 LM sat nav. 38. Get it checked at your local Skoda dealer. You may have a partially collapsed hydraulic tappet caused by dirt blocking the oilway on the tappet. Easy fix but must be looked at.

  39. To start of with i will say Track tyres, bigger brakes, coil overs, poly bushes, roll cage, upgraded anti roll bars. That should sort the handling and stoping.

  40. If towing is that important then surely you would check before buying and ask for the towing weights etc? If the dealer then fails to provide the right information and tells you it can tow then turns out you can't then you would have a case against them. But to just buy a car then ask after the fact if it can tow seems a bit backwards. While looking for new cars towing was a factor that I was looking into as I knew I would be wanting to tow at some point.

  42. Not that it will matter massively, but assuming you have a MK20 system, your bleeding sequence is back to front - see here http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk1/chassis/brakes_hydraulics_regulator_servo/bleed_brake_system_vehicles_with_or_without_abs_or_abs/edl_mark_20_and_mark_60/bleeding_brake_system_with_brake_filling_and_bleeding_device_for_vehicles_with_mark_20/ If it is an MK60 system, then you have the correct front to rear order, but you have reversed the o/s and n/s order - see here http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk1/chassis/brakes_hydraulics_regulator_servo/bleed_brake_system_vehicles_with_or_without_abs_or_abs/edl_mark_20_and_mark_60/bleeding_brake_system_with_brake_filling_and_bleeding_device_for_vehicles_with_abs_mark_60/ You only really need to run the pump if you have either run the system dry, or you have inadvertently bled a bubble into the pump. VCDS can run the pump if you need to do it.

  43. For improved cornering, Bilsteins B6 all round are best, monotubes so handling is much improved, comfort is preserved. But if the suspension knocks about then you also need a full set of wishbones and anti roll bar links, on Ebay for GBP250-300, make sure it fits your particular year of Superb, best kits are made by Delphi as they made the original suspension set. For my car, 2006 Superb, Delphi TC1900KIT fits. Rear suspension can also be replaced relatively easily, you need new bushes. Do not know where to get them fitted, I am still hesitating to touch stock suspension wishbones as full geometry setup can be pricey and more importantly, not many places know how to do adjust correctly for Passat/Superb (raised toe).

  44. Exactly - and clearly over reading is proferable to under reading as owners would be complaining in numbers as they got tickets whilst thinking they were adhering to the limit. I must say that when I first got my Yeti the KPH display was a constant irritation to me, however, I no longer notice it. It is daft that if there is no type approved reason for it being fixed on KPH and it's a simple software setting that Skoda have never changed this throughout the production run of the Yeti, but we are where we are. As for people who seem 'challenged' by an analogue speedo without 30, 50 & 70 digits (but clearly marked calibration) - are you sure you should be driving?
