  2. Ross-Tech is US based. VAG-COM was originally in English and was first translated to German as Mr. Uwe Ross, the creator of VAG-COM/VCDS and owner of Ross-Tech speaks both English and German. Today, VCDS is translated to 14 different languages as shown on our home page. As to the knock-offs, they are usually locked to one particular release of our software. Until recently, the thieves were not able to make a device that could get past one version. As with all things, if there is a will and enough time, the thieves will find a way. We fight it everyday and do our best to protect our hard work. But those who choose to buy from the thieves promote their efforts instead of ours. I guess it is the way of the world. On the subject of potential damage.. sure, if you just go willy nilly messing with stuff, you could end up causing some real headaches. Our tech team has dealt with such cases. Biggest single issue is running long diagnostic sessions and letting the battery run down. Most damage has been when that has occurred. How hard is it to connect a decent battery charger and keep things topped up? Other disasters came from people pushing far beyond what we have documented. You can do that. But, you do it at your own risk. In the latest version of VCDS (17.8), owing to so many requests for coding on the newest models on which we are still in the process of collecting information, we have turned on a feature called "Experimental Coding." That feature makes suggestions of what we think may be in the module and we warn users, use it at your own risk. We further ask that if things are confirmed, you let us know. But to those worried, some one in this thread talked about "drinking the Kool-Aid". Right, what they mean is they are learning all that is needed. At the start, go slow. You are planning to keep your ride for a long time. So, make a couple of safe changes and work into the more ambitious things as you build your knowledge and your confidence. Have fun along the way. For that is what Mr. Ross desired all would have using his diagnostic tool. See ya around the forums!

  3. I have done it on 2 rear doors and it can be a pain,After removing the door card I tried one by trying to bash it out with a hammer and chisel and it was a right pain to do and made a mess ! the easiest way is to have a small dremil drill with a blade/disc in it that will cut plastic and you cut an opening in the side of the plastic casing to reveal the edge of a gear wheel, you then have a small screwdriver to turn the cog one way buy about 1/2 inch and also have a piece of small rod to hold the cog in position/tension and then turn the cog another 1/2 inch and you keep going until the lock mechanism comes out of deadlock (see pics) ! cheers Stuart

He was the one that was with Paul Willis VW UK CEO giving evidence to the Transport Select Committee, and then this week was pleading guilty in the US court to lying to the Authorities doing the VW Emissions Scandal Investigation. 6. Top idea. I see you are relatively local to me - I'll forward my address for collection. There are 8 of us including baggage!!! Unfortunately have no one that could do that for me as the car is company one and therefore insurance limited.

  9. So for 50yr we've treated NK like a the dirty mouthy kid at the end of the street which is to basically ignore them no matter how wild their claims or threats were. Basically because everyone knew that if they gave them a bit of chocolate they'd **** off for a while until they got hungry again. But I suppose no one considered what would happy when the gobby ****e from one street met the gobby ****e from another. It's like a sketch from a bugs bunny cartoon. I'll kill you oh yeah! Yeah! Well I'll blow you up Oh yeah! Yeah! We'll I'll.... 13. I appreciate that modifications are all subjective, that they come in fads, and that I've made minor modifications to cars I've owned myself in the past that others would see as tacky - big mudflaps, debadging, those cheap ebay flimsy plastic "M3" spoilers etc. I've lived through the Max Power era and seen all sorts of weird and wacky bodykits, but I don't understand some of the current fads: - No front numberplate / numberplate in the windscreen. I appreciate that in publicity shots, cars won't have a front plate. I even get Alfa Romeo or Evo-style side mounting, to allow air in to an intercooler. But I don't get the trend of ripping the front numberplate off and placing it in the windscreen. It just looks like it has fallen off and needs to be put on again. - Words all over the windscreen. I once read about a car dealer who got done for taking a test drive with the price and feature list stickers on the windscreen of a car they were selling. Now people are doing it to their own cars. I appreciate that this is probably an evolution from the old fashioned "Rothmans Rally" sun strips, but how do people see the road for all the stickers? And what do they do at MOT time - peel them off and put them back on again? - Wheels that foul the arches and the "camber" look. Popular in the dub scene. I can appreciate lowering a car a little to get a better stance, but when tyres start rubbing bodywork you've gone too far. When you can't negotiate speed humps, and drive along country roads at a crawl in case of potholes you've taken it too far. The "camber" thing too just looks like your car has been dropped and axle snapped. - Diesel smoke, usually from a Peugeot 306 diesel, open up the fuel lines such that when they accelerate they put out a huge cloud of black smoke. Not particularly sporty.

  15. Hi all, Had this a few months now, trading in my previous '09 Roomster (one of the best cars I've owned - if only it had better seats!) for this, having spotted it at the dealership whilst getting the Roomster serviced (terrible timing, I know) and initially dismissed it on the assumption it the 'v6' badge indicated it was the older 2.5 v6 diesel. It's a 2011 Superb v6 3.6 4x4 in Elegance trim (as they all were over here) with a few nice features - I'm sure some of these were standard but hey.. Heated leather electric seats Xenons Powered boot (that's a tailgate y'all ) Flappy padels Parking assist Front and read parking sensors (a must on the superb in my view!) probably some other stuff I've forgotten about And of course that lovely v6 under the bonnet! It's done quite a lot of miles hence a good price. It seems as though it's been meticulously serviced with both DSG and Haldex fluid changes ahead of schedule and looked after pretty well inside but when I first saw the car, it was horribly stone chipped all across the front so I assume lots of motorway miles. An initial chat with one of the staff at the dealership revealed they were planning to get the paintwork issues addressed. What that resulted in was a front end re-spray with the bonnet and front bumper being sprayed and the wings blended in, included in the purchase price. There was also a small spot of bubbly paint in the gap between the offside wing and drivers door which was resolved too. Anyway, an initial post to get the ball rolling and admit that yes, I am going to see if I can fix some of the uglier issues. And maybe some other tweaks too. Seems appropriate to post today as hopefully James from Remy Roc will be here in an hour to see if we can fix some paintwork issues... Cheers, Steve

  16. 100-0 should be around 34m for a 2.0TDI with 16" tyres. 2 different sources with that and another with 34.2 for the superb. ADAC found 35.3 for the RS. Are you sure you're pressing the pedal *all the way down*? You should be almost triggering ABS even on a dry road, though to be honest I have found no reason to criticise the brakes on the Octy whatsoever. The bumps: if the wheels are not straight and you hear it, it gets easier to understand. It's also possible there's something hitting the springs - have you checked all of the wheel wells and made sure there are no branches or so stuck? - Bret

  17. Looks great. Same as my wife's in fact. The black wheel/roof combo on these really looks good imo. The CE is a good spec as well and for me the current sweet spot in the Fabia line up. The lights with the LED and projectors really smarten up the front as well over the basic halogen units.

  18. M&S credit card, that is our petrol buying card as well as other things, as you said that you are flying away on holiday, my wife always used M&S for foreign currency as you get a better deal as an account holder, our nearest M&S is 5 miles away and is mainly just an edge of town food place with limited choice.

  19. The paint just looks badly marred/swirled (in my non expert opinion). It'll just machine polish out. I wouldn't bother taking it back. They'll just make a bigger arse of it anyway if that's the state they originally left it.

  20. Thanks SwissRob. Just took the kids for a spin. At 3 and 6, it's basically a spaceship with so much leg room that they can't even touch the seats in front in car seats, with their legs stretched out I accidentally discovered that it has gesture control. On paper - utter gimmick. In reality, being able to dismissively wave a hand at rubbish radio stations is brilliant Be gone Little Mix! Away with you Bieber!

  22. Never rains.... Ford is already under the microscope of the Australian Authorities over the Auto Box failures and treatment or dishonesty of dealers and Ford Australia towards owners. Innocent until found guilty obviously, and then further investigations happen in other countries. I wonder what will happen in the US, if anything.

  24. I always switch off start/stop, by default on start up. When I know I'm going to b stopped for a while, I switch it back on. However, don't forget to treat the DSG as a manual - it is not ur regular "automatic". This one has a clutch. Just like a real manual, u can't just stomp on the gas - u need to b in gear first. Same deal with the DSG, start/stop or not. U need to give it a sec or two before taking off. If ur waiting 5 secs though, then u have issues.

  25. poor boys - white diamond polish whilst this is not a true polish in the diminishing abrasive compound sense, and has fillers it still does a very impressive job by hand at making your paint look good. got some nice reflections in the paint last night - even got my golf in shot too

  29. I would agree with that to an extent. I never had them before and ordered them on my SIII. Don't get me wrong, they do make a difference and I'd probably miss them on a hot day now but I am surprised that they are not even cooler. There are three settings and I never really notice much difference in cooling beyond the first setting. It s a 'nice-to-have' but not a 'must-have' IMO. Nice spec though already with the L&K and the one option I love is the heated wheel with paddles. Half the price of the cooled seats and well worth. I'd be careful going above 18" wheels as ride will suffer. 18" are the optimal for the SII in terms of aesthetics IMO.

  30. The VRS TDI DSG is often not at the revs that I want it at. In D it changes up too early. In S it changes up too late. So my DSG is in M a lot of the time.

  31. if you look at the actions of this government, then you will see that the Green Lobby don't have their ear. They had to be taken to court to publish the Clean Air white paper. Green taxes on our energy bills have been removed. The emissions based car tax regime has been removed. Solar subsides have been slashed. Hinckley Point nuclear power station being built will massive government guarentees etc. and I think Brexit will only make it worse, due to most of the current regulations being part of EU regulations, not UK ones. But the point of my original post, is that basing a decision between diesel and petrol on the possibility of a future tax which nobody knows any detail of is futile. What may happen instead is that government taxes all non hybrid / electric engines or do something else. And given the size of the diesel car / van / hgv fleet any increase in taxes will have to take time. The van / hgv fleet don't have real alternatives at the moment. I don't think much will happen until the cost / range / recharge time of hybrids and ev improves as well as the surrounding infrastructure. Once that happens then it will be a real push against both petrol and diesels. In the mean time there will be a push to probably remove older diesels say Euro 4 or less.

  35. Funny how times have changed isn't if? When we were kids there were 4 of us and we managed with a Morris Minor now you need a charabanc! On the motorbike thing I feel a bit uneasy on my S1000R at times because I'd like to see my grand daughter grow up but you can't hide from death so why worry? ZX6 is a nice bike though but I like to sit up and see a bit of the world though, think I'd look at something like a Street triple these days.

  36. Superb Sportline in Brilliant Silver with 18" Zenith rims. Looking pretty good! Not my car though, got it from my dealer over the night for some test driving. Brand spanking new, it was driven 16 km when I hopped in :-) Ride is comfy and silent enough. Much softer than my vRS, but also quieter. I know what you mean with potholes being poison! I managed to hit a smallish one at 80-90 km/h and BAM! that was a loud one. All in all a very pleasant car. Still not sure about 19" rims though...

  39. Overtakes shouldn't be done with engine under 4k rpm on a petrol engine, seen too many videos with accidents/incidents involving gear/rpm mismanagement Anyway, note that in the wet the 220 may struggle. Can you spec progressive steering and sport suspension? I'd say they are must for sporty driving. And no, DCC in sports mode still has horrible roll.

  45. Finally took the plunge and joined the queue. I ordered yesterday, for a delivery in October(ish). I went for the 1.4 (150) Petrol engine, my first petrol car for about 10 years but probably much more suitable for my purposes. I test drove the manual version and was impressed by how much kick it had. I've gone for DSG for my order. Ordered in edition spec with a couple of optional extras. Let's see how the Skoda lottery treats me. Can't wait to get behind the wheel, anyway!

  47. I should have updated this ages ago.... To do list: Service! Bought the car with the thought 'I don't do many miles'. Now I have a car I like driving I've accidentally done ~10,000 miles already Replace rear boot rubber seal Replace parking bulbs with Osram LEDs Replacement windscreen? It's picked up a very small crack in the offside corner to go with some chips. Briskoda stickers! Update the maps and columbus firmware Better braking Wind deflectors Boot lining and heavy duty rubber mats New summer wheels - Team Dynamics? Detailing - DONE! Winter wheels - DONE! New bonnet lip trim Updated badges More to come no doubt. I'm just going to show it up here as things go along and we'll see how it goes. I've been a bit slack at updating this post already, having got slightly distracted by @BossFox's very long Yeti thread(s)! Cheers, Steve

  48. Problem solved!!! Bought some ramps for £10 off of ebay. Ramped up at the weekend just to take a look before taking it to the VAG specialist and just as many people have suggested, there was a broken wire coming out of the connector into the alternator! There was just enough wire poking out of the connector to get a mini junction box on there and reconnect the wire. Only one of them had snapped. Taped her up (within an inch of it's life!) to stop anything breaking again, started her up, left it 10 minutes, and NO asr light! So a massive thank you to everyone who helped me out on this, especially Fatty5000 who initially scanned it to get the error codes. Here's the link that I followed to repair it, in case anyone else in a similar position http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=209472. Back to problem free motoring and the pleasure of cancelling the repair by the VAG specialist on tuesday! Cheers guys!
