  3. Quite. Imagine having that particular fault in the same scenario with a dealer who doesn't care about the customer. You'd have to start arguing about when it was discovered, how it happened, why it happened, Consumer Rights Act, etc. As it stands, it's a fault which may or may not have been noticeable at the time of sale, may or may not have happened after the sale to the customer, is being addressed by the dealer with no problems at all, a courtesy car has been arranged in the interim, and as far as I can see the whole issue should be just put down to a dealer doing the right thing.

  7. It's not broken. It's a small, light, efficient, petrol engine. All these factors will tend to reduce engine braking, especially compared to diesels, which have a much greater braking effect. It's supposed to be charging the battery much harder during engine braking, but presumably this doesn't make a noticeable difference. I have noticed that at about 5000 rpm my gear recommendation asks me to change up, which means I probably need to brake a bit harder. I think you would only need to worry about it if you were towing a heavy load down a long steep hill. Edit: You can check that the fuel consumption is zero in the maxidot display.

  8. I originally wrapped the 2 grille lines using 3D film but after a while the sun seems to fade it & noticed little holes within the film from either stone chips or maybe pressure washer? I actually wrapped the whole 2 lines on the grille not just the pin stripe line within the grille (I did the whole bit) but I suppose if you are going to wrap the pin stripes on the grille, then there would be less chance for any damage! but if you do the whole 2 bits of the grille then personally its better to spray them as I did after removing the 3D film. I can't remember what pictures are 3D film or paint but if you want a fresh picture showing the painted 2 lines on my grille, let me know & I'll get a few shots for you. My main point for doing the grille with green & red was to make it tie in with the colours on the vRS badge already on the grille, the grille to me in its standard form was just to plain but each to their own & now I have Skoda-Performance front grille

  9. Then it's entirely likely that the dealer wouldn't have heard it either. As long as they are dealing with the fault properly then it's not worth losing sleep over.

  10. Good evening :) Tody was an exciting day as I have put a deposit on this little monster! I drove one on Sunday (driven a few before and know someone with a red 63 plate S model) and decided to go for one. I initially wanted the colour edition as there is a good deal going ATM but the branch manager couldn't get on the group stock network yesterday so I left it and went back after work today to see what they had. As it was they had this Monte Carlo in the showroom and all the extra toys it has including the small leather pack and chrome door handles which make all the touch points much more premium feeling I decided to go for this one in white so the car in the pictures is officially mine now, although in some respects it's a shame it's not an MY17 with the new lights and DAB radio and I'm on the fence with the PID as I haven't used one yet, would rather have the phone holder as I think my big iPhone 6S Plus might be better than the PID but I'm getting it free so I'm not overly fussed, I want the trip computer, gauges, phone and media more than the nav though so I'm looking forward to having music options rather than a broken device my Grandmother reliably informs me is called a tape player. I should be collecting it Friday all being well ready to give it a proper detail and protection over the weekend. Simply put they knocked a fair few £££ off and with the £1000 deposit contribution and £500 fuel card it was worth it and I won't have to wait (I hate waiting!). Plans so far are simple LED DRL's Paint callipers red and drums black Order rubber mats and boot mat Order mudflaps for at least the back (maybe front as well) Order boot side carpet from Germany Possibilities to come include Variable boot floor Cruise control if possible Maybe wrap the roof black Otherwise just use it for the next 3.5 years. It will be a nice upgrade from my £95 2002 Fiat Punto lol, have been using that a few months since I sold my last 'decent' car, my Volvo C30 T5. With now being in Uni it makes sense to have something cheap but nicer than the Fiat which is pretty foul. I am surprised how well the 60ps Citigo drives compared to how I remember my 230ps Volvo going!! Looking forward to getting to know the car and I'm not the only Skoda owner in the family either, my mother has a 14 plate Fabia TDi and my brother a 51 plate Fabia SDi so I'll be around and about. Cheers :D

  12. Hi all, Just thought I'd better jump in this forum from the MK2 one and start a thread. I currently drive a 2011 VRS hatch CR170 DSG, bloody great car! Then this happened...... !!! So yeah....... crazy week!! Short of it is I'm off to the dealers tomorrow morning to spec up my new VRS230 DSG, probably an estate this time, the extra space will be handy but depends if they can do something about the £1200 price hike! So I'm currently here with the spec: Moon White Metallic Panoramic Electric Sunroof (PH8) £1,150 Dynamic chassis control (DCC) (PFH) £850 Adaptive cruise control (PSB) £565 Canton sound system (RA3) £500 Tow bar with adaptor (PK1) £550 Heated windscreen (PH5) £300 Temporary space saver spare wheel (PJC) £100 Umbrella (for electric seats / CANTON) (QE7) £0 Heated washer nozzles in front (9T1) £50 Crew Protection Assistant (7W1) £150 Rear side airbags (PE4) £285 5 Year / 100k Extended Warranty £515 Anything else REALLY worth having? Any of the lighting, lane assist, blind spot monitoring or such things worth what they're asking for them? Any ideas on the current build time at the moment? Thanks!

  13. Clutch failure, piston rings, steering rack etc are not minor things. A gearbox mount is pretty minor in comparison. 20 mins to change one probably easier than doing an oil and filter change. Yes it is covered under warranty, but they could have turned around and said it was your fault for hitting something and causing damage. They didn't and have agreed to sort it including a courtesy car so i do not see what the big deal is. Threatening to hand back the car seems a bit extreme to me but each to their own.
    1 point
  14. Yes, easier by far, however the pressure plate rubbing the gearbox casing has to be caused by excessive crank endfloat which has probably also caused the crank seal failure. So we're dealing with a more complex issue here. I assume the thrust washers are built into one of the main bearings rather than separate which rather suggests the engine has been oil-starved at some point.

  17. Unless you are getting a variable boot floor, and keep it at the highest level, then a full size wheel (same size as your regular wheels) won't fit. if you want a genuine steel spare, as you're getting a 280, you need a special space saver that will clear the 280's larger brakes. Other models get away with a 16" wheel that is a reasonably meaty size. The special one for the 280 is a larger diameter, comparatively skinny space saver.

  23. Try 3c8 035 730 a, b, c, d, e. The a is equivalent to the one rustynuts highlighted. d or e are best as they offer premium fuctions with rsap (in case you end up with a phone that supports it). However all work with whats called hfp which is what you need now. If there is no suffix letter its equivalent to what you have now so dont be tempted there!

  29. It's Sunday so as promised it is update time First order of business is to fit the carpets to the rear I removed the parcel shelf, variable floor and mounts and the foam floor and carpet underneath to get started. This is what the carpets look like IMG_6563 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Fitting is very straightforward, pull the trim off start to line up, once the lining up is done peel off the adhesive and stick down hard. Bash the trim back in but be careful to align the centre tab on the bit that sticks down over the arch as if you don't line it up it'll just bash the socket behind it back and stay loose, took me a couple of goes to line that up right on the left hand side but the right side went straight back in! After that if you have the variable floor you must locate the holes in the boot and I used a knife to cut through the carpet so the bolts can go through. On mine the central adhesive strip was placed right over the central bolt for the boot floor but it will go though quite easily. With a bit of effort it is easy to get all 4 sticky pads stuck down for a nice tight fit. Here's a 50/50. On the right is how the boot looked when I picked the car up and the left is how they should always have been built IMO IMG_6564 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Up close IMG_6565 by SashaGrace, on Flickr And both sides complete IMG_6566 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Boot floor in place IMG_6567 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Carpet match is great! IMG_6568 by SashaGrace, on Flickr IMG_6569 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Floor down IMG_6570 by SashaGrace, on Flickr IMG_6571 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Next step was fitting these IMG_6572 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Remove the old IMG_6573 by SashaGrace, on Flickr And replace with the new, much better on the front now! IMG_6574 by SashaGrace, on Flickr IMG_6575 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Am waiting on rear ones and looking to find some way of doing something with the side repeaters as they bother me the most being orange! Next was fitting these IMG_6576 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Nice genuine Skoda ones all lined up properly Lastly was the auto light conversion, start by removing the old light switch IMG_6559 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Remove the dash side trim and place the control box in there, cable tie to the metal support and run the cable to the switch through the hole. IMG_6560 by SashaGrace, on Flickr IMG_6561 by SashaGrace, on Flickr Route the sensor up to the dash somewhere and stick it down IMG_6562 by SashaGrace, on Flickr I got it here because it is unobtrusive and honestly doesn't catch the eye when you sit inside. Last thing to do is test it and that's easy! Place a tissue or something over the sensor to make it dark and go for it The convenience function (lights come on for 20 seconds when the car is locked/unlocked in the dark) are activated which is a nice touch. Please excuse the background chatter, my sniffing and me standing there like a tit pressing the lock button for ages until I realised the drivers door was open! As you can see the lights on the switch are red as it is meant for an up! but that doesn't bother me that much, the fact it's chrome and not black is much more relevant to me tbh And another test Then the comfort access at night and showing the lights do go off when commanded lol, the only issue I have found is when the lights come on and the door is opened it does throw a few pings to say the lights are on but it shuts up in the end Hope that shows all that clearly I'm very happy with those mods tbh, really complete the car for me. I am not happy with the PID as it simply doesn't play music from my phone, have re synced them, cleaned the PID mounts, reset the PID, reset the phone, tried 3 different phones and it doesn't play music properly. It skips and goes off and sometimes doesn't play at all, the track ID is never working properly and none of the PID controls work to change track. Also the puncture warning has come on twice since I picked it up so tomorrow will be ringing the dealer to sort those, I think my PID is the one from the display cabinet tbh as they looked a bit sheepish when I asked for it the other day so I will be ensuring a new one is ordered to fix the issue. I have bought the map updates on Fresh with the coupon so thanks for the heads up! Will update with how the lights work in the real world and the PID issue when I can and tomorrow as I'm on the phone to them anyway I'll be ordering some rear arch liners This mod list keeps growing haha Hope you've all had a great weekend!

  30. Just found a full standard set up in the garage that came off of mine, forgot all about it. Fk me I'm getting old. Probably need different rear springs as it's off an estate, but it's better than nowt. Forgot Brimma had left the original suspension in the boot when I bought it. Free bump anyway!.

  31. Leave it alone, there is no issue with NOx in Lincolnshire, and you'll very likely end up with a worse car if you let them do it.
    1 point
  32. You should have the towing eye and the wheel nut from the "tools". I agree on the tyre front. Most fitting centres will not do a permanent repair on tyres plugged with sealant either. Some dealers are doing a spare "kit" for £160 which is the foam wheel well insert, wheel/tyre and tools. So if you work on 50% mark up, Skoda is saving £80 per car not supplying a spare. Seems like unnecessary penny pinching, but it will also get the weight down for the mpg testing which I'm very sure is high on the VW group list at the moment!
    1 point
  33. You don't get a puncture kit now, the sealant is pre loaded into the tyres. So now no way at all to deal with a relatively minor tyre failure Whilst you wait for your manual you can look at the online one: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/mini-apps/owners-manuals/pages/superb.aspx

  37. I might be in the minority but I think that looks a little tame from the front for a TVR. It might be that the safety laws are forcing a reduction in madness. The proof will be in the sound, not much sounds like a TVR but again I be the bloody regs will have ruined that too. There isn't much that sounds better than an old Griffith 500 I wonder if anyone can program the sound generator in my 3 series to sound like that?

  38. @Headinawayoffski Engine is a 1.2 htp Yes thanks for that, it helped a lot! Just an update, so did the 120 mile journey and made it there and back okish... Had 3 occasions, 2 on way there and 1 on way back. Of the 'limp' mode thing I mentioned a while ago on this post. But now it's clearer what's happening, before I go to a garage would be good if anyone has any ideas of the cause. So all 3 times I was driving about 60/70 (motorway and dual carriage ways). And I would be going a consistent speed at about 3000 revs for at least 10+ minutes. Then I would start slowing the car down and changing down gears. But the car would just lose power and start juddering. So each time I had to bring the car to a complete stop. Turn the engine off and back on. Then the car was fine? It's happened before but last time it happened it didn't then happen again for 2+ weeks. So seems that there is an issue when the cars been going a constant speed / rev range for a period of time and then is required to change the speed / revs any ideas? Also oil didn't seem to be an issue yesterday, but haven't checked it this morn so will update once I have thanks

  40. You can put the 215's on a wider rim, & then not all 215's have bulging walls, depends what tyres you are fitting, Federal or what ever. As to looks, hardly matters if sprinting or hillclimbing really, just take a spare pair of wheels/tyres and a jack, you have space for 1 of them in the spare wheel well anyway if you are leaving the spare at home.
    1 point
  41. 215 better 'off the line' I know folk reduce tyre pressure too for sprints etc.. but I dont like the look of bulging tyre walls with 215's. ive got 215 uniroyals all round but I like the look of 205 better. try my tyres for bargaining with a local supplier.

  45. Yes both are a Option, and with my AMG package the dash is in leather, with open cell wood, and so on... the Superb is 2 classes below that, but also costs half as much And the Diesel engine on the Merc while you do hear it from the outside, inside it sound better then the Petrol (did drive both). Same goes for the Arteon, it is just a lot better insulated and inside you don't hear it no were near as in the Superb. And i don't care how it sound from the outside, because i sit in the Car Oh and most Petrol engines now days also sound horrible from the outside... you hear a weird "tk tk tk tk tk tk".... like a Ducati where you think its falling apart :P
