  1. Ok so, I've had a 05 plate 140pd TDI Mk2, a 1.4 tsi DSG Mk3 & now a vRS245 Mk3 fl. If you're coming from a Mk2 to a vRS245 Its a no brainer, the difference is so extreme, if it was just from a Mk3 to a Mk3 fl, you've gotta look hard to find a smoother, more finished product. The seats are awesome, the screen is great, with the sat nav being so much better than the O3's. Love the punch of the 245's engine but, its quite refined, possible requirement of a tuning box, depends on how much edginess you like. DCC works great for my family, comfort setting for them time refines the cars to almost limo feel, other settings can be used when feeling enthusiastical Like the looks a lot, the wheels are huge & look even bigger although, mine will be down graded to 18's as I have them & the 65% increase in the cost of 18 to 19" tyres ain't gonna work for me. The 19's really do crash loud & hard when you hit a pot hole, I mean bad enough to make you stop, get out & look at tyre. The seats are something else, comfortable, electric, heated & Alcantra means you don't slide around but, electric adjusted 4 way lumbar support actually means you get out feeling good after 3 or 4 hours behind the wheel I like the 245 a lot, I'm not naive enough to believe I'm gonna get much more than 25mpg avg but, I'm kool with that. I think its gonna be very hard to replace this one at the end of the PCP but, I won't be buying it at the end of the term as I'm gonna "DRIVE IT LIKE I JUST STOLE IT" for the entire 3-1/2 year term

  2. Michael O'Leary / Ryanair seems to have got the grasp of this forthcoming BREXIT thing worked out, they must be learning from Whizz Air. Lets see how the EU makes sure that EU Flight Delay or Cancellation Compensation is handled as supposed to be in the EU. Maybe also see how the EU Commissioners get on with having Germany get a grip of the VW Group and the treatment of customers after all the assurances they gave to fix vehicles.

  3. Evening All, Well I've dropped on a little, 3 years ago saw me sell my beloved and one of the first Mk3 Octavia vRS Estates after only 12 months of ownership due to going in to a company van. After 3 years of various personal cars for the wife and vans for me, I have found myself ordering my first company car (limited choice), to which due to budget restriction from work I went for the following: - FL Octavia SE L - 1.6tdi - Pearl Black - LED Rear Lights (High) - Alios 18" wheels - Canton Sound System I am very glad I went for the LED rear lights, feel it makes he car much more modern, good comparison of the two here with another SE L parked next to mine. Id never seen one in the spec so was keen to see it (hoping it was how I thought), I received my reg from the lease company and it just so happened it was a local reg so thought id have a look at the local dealer and it so happens a car of my exact spec was there. I have post as I have not yet seen the spec (i.e. wheel, lights and colour) so thought id share to help others. Look forward to it being delivered next week. Thanks Rob

  4. Today is our 40th wedding anniversary. Our three 'girls' organised a surprise party last night with family and friends in a function room at a local hotel. Three children, one grandchild, Two houses. Not really sure where forty years has gone

  5. I bought the PedalBox+ from DTUK online. Other posters have mentioned leaving a throttle tuning device plugged in and the dealer not mentioning it. I'm choosing the ostrich approach, myself. I use it on the milder settings. I'm over my boy racer phase. It's one of those things you don't really need, but are glad you have. Like a beer.

  6. Wow, I've never seen that before, I wouldn't bother replacing the socket, just make a long jumper wire and send it round the plug and hide it in the rubber boot, if you ever have to remove the door you can just cut it.

  8. In August we reached 48 years of married life and went out for a decent lunch to celebrate. There was a much larger celebration for our 25th. Now 50 years will really be a celebration. 2 daughters and one grand daughter.

  10. From all of the posts and media articles it looks likely that when the UK leaves the EU we: Won't Be able to fly from the UK to the EU Won't be able to drink beer from the EU Won't be able to afford to go abroad for our holidays Won't be able to afford imported cars from the EU Won't be allowed to export anything to the UK If we are rich enough to travel to an EU country then there will be a 3 day queue at Dover, when on the continent you'll be locked up for speaking English. The Red Cross will parachute food parcels in once a week .............

  11. Good grief - I leave you with nice pictures of cute cats and dogs, go out for one evening and it all kicks off! The only serious beer problem I see is that my cupboard full of Belgium beer is going to reduce in bottles year on year after we leave. As it is, it has been increasing year on year. Going to have to go over quite a few times in the next few months to keep it topped up. BELGIUM BEER guys - this is a reason to stay in the EU above ALL other reasons!!!!!!!

  15. Just looking at it isn't enough. It's quite a common problem for the connection at the strut turret to be bad. Best to take it off, clean it all and replace it tightening it firmly. It's worth doing is as a mattter of course even if it's the solenoid wire that's causing the issue.

  16. NO! The Rapid does not have the modules for remote window closing. It works on my much cheaper Ibiza but not on Rapids or Toledos.

  17. Yeah, we tried that from the Swing's menu, always resets on next engine start. Thanks for the warning about the Carista app, but I think he's only gonna go for the raising/lowering of the Windows from the key fob, so er.... please tell me those are still good ?

  19. Hi All, Once again thanks for all your replies. The bullet has been bitten & we've bought a 62 plate 2.0tdi SE Plus with 45k on the clock. Everything we wanted apart from no DAB, but I'll get an Alpine EZI DAB system fitted & its white! I need to get over that bit!! But the deal seemed ok, they are fitting 4 new tyres, new cambelt, full service, MOT, mud flaps & 6 months tax + I am swapping my spare wheel kit & rubber mats out of our old Yeti. Collect it in a couple of weeks.

  20. I thought I'd scratches on the inside of my screen and it turned out to be glue. Hard glue, and about where you said it was. Worth trying part of it with your finger nail.

  21. I think you may benefit from a brand new set of glow plugs. Glow plugs age and don't glow red hot in as short a time as a new one. The fact you cycled them them a few times and this cured the smoke sort of points to this. Of course you could have an underlying issue which the glow plugs maybe masking such as a leaky injector seals or a dodgy injector dripping a bit of diesel into the cylinders causing a puff of smoke

  23. Update: Finally got round to testing the voltages on the headlight motors. One was showing 4.5 volts (the dead one) and the other side 9volts. I then looked at the headlight connector to see if any wires were broken, turns out the connector had come unclipped and was just hovering in place. Don't know how the other bulbs kept working other than the levelling motor but anyway all working properly again now

  24. If it was generic map - without rolling road - then it's simple connect & upload - so don't understand why would you have to pay "promotional" £100?

  25. Bet you are loving it a lot Chris - I've had the same model / colour with the 2litre tsi motor for just over 3 weeks now and just love driving it ... better in many respects than all of the Beemers I've previously owned !

  27. How long does the warranty last? Mine makes awful clatter just when you don't want it to, doesn't start every time its meant to (1st thing in the morning), Makes a moaning sound when I do certain things, drinks far more than expected, very hard to steer - seems to have a will of its own! At 60k do you think they will take her back? I'd swop her for 2 30k models, but that may double the problem

  30. Water pump, there is a whole thread on here about it, usually VRS TDI's. Such has been the failure level that Skoda have been discounting out of warranty cars, 50% off is common but I have heard of 70% being given as well. BTW, get the cam belt replaced at the same time, its like 1/2 an hours extra labour so, a no brainer

  33. To suffer hardness with good cheer,In sternest school of warfare bred,Our youth should learn; let steed and spearMake him one day the Parthian's dread;Cold skies, keen perils, brace his life.Methinks I see from rampired townSome battling tyrant's matron wife,Some maiden, look in terror down,—“Ah, my dear lord, untrain'd in war!O tempt not the infuriate moodOf that fell lion I see! from farHe plunges through a tide of blood!“What joy, for fatherland to die!Death's darts e'en flying feet o'ertake,Nor spare a recreant chivalry,A back that cowers, or loins that quake.True Virtue never knows defeat:Her robes she keeps unsullied still,Nor takes, nor quits, her curule seatTo please a people's veering will.True Virtue opens heaven to worth:She makes the way she does not find:The vulgar crowd, the humid earth,Her soaring pinion leaves behind.Seal'd lips have blessings sure to come:Who drags Eleusis' rite today,That man shall never share my home,Or join my voyage: roofs give wayAnd boats are wreck'd: true men and thievesNeglected Justice oft confounds:.............................................

  35. I would install the chrome ring as the middle and the black as the top ring, a chrome ring will not bed in as quickly as a plain ring and the cylinder will leak compression badly otherwise. I'm not saying that's the case, it's just what I would logically do.

  37. Picked the new car up this a.m. Very good, apart from not having the leather upholstery, the spec and functionality is far higher than my Superb Elegance. I am even getting to like the Pacific Blue colour. Didn't know that it would have stop/go technology and it even fits on the drive with a bit to spare!!

  38. Is it because they're too flexible? (Not being able to tell that from the pictures) I've got the Skoda ones on mine which as stiff plastic; don't stop muck down the sides and back, but do reduce it enough to make a difference when cleaning
