  5. My guess would be 20Nm with an upper tolerance of +2Nm and a lower tolerance of -0Nm In other words, 20Nm is the ideal torque but anything up to 22Nm is acceptable.

  6. I had a Mk3 TDI VRS for the last 3 years, so already used to the ride :-) Don't have DCC so this is the standard setup. I've actually found the FL to be a slightly nicer ride than my pre-FL VRS. It feels a little better put together and less noisy as far as I can tell.

  7. I have busy bee this morning, and now duly knackered after 4.5 hours cleaning Car wasn't really dirty, so I didn't snowfoam this time, rinse with jetwash, 2BM wash, rinse again and towel dry. Applied Fusso 99 for durability and then topped with Meguirs Quik Wax (as heard good things about it for black cars), glass treated with Hellshine Ghost rider. Wheels treated with Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal.

  12. Brexit William Jefferson Hague, Baron Hague of Richmond warns over Tory infighting: "it is now 15 months since the referendum, and high time that all members of the government were able to express themselves on this subject in the same way as each other, putting forward the same points, as part of an agreed plan. If not, there will be no point Conservatives discussing who is going to be the foreign secretary, chancellor or prime minister in the coming years, because Jeremy Corbyn will be prime minister," Music to my ears

  13. The key is to drive it like a manual. With a manual gearbox you give it a bit of throttle and bring the clutch to biting point before you pull away. In the same way, the DSG works best with some gentle throttle a second or so before you want to move off.

  14. All done and took around 15 minutes with no horror stories! Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 170bp 62 plate. 13mm socket for the clamp and a 10mm for the connectors. Old battery Ccable tie holder that was holding the power cables together. as you can see easily got my hand down and undid the nut by hand after using the socket set and refit by hand with plenty of space the warning I got along with the warning lights and within 20 yards all the warnings went out after a quick trip. Only thing I had to do was reset was the clock. All other functions remained the same, Windows were ok, boot ok and sat nav ok! Battery a dream and most certainly starts with ease. Brilliant service from Tayna and will order from them again. Only thanks to the many on here for the tips given did this go smoothly. Steve

  15. It’s called good customer services, no they are not obliged to do it FOC, but as they have already charged you for the map, by re-flashing the ECU for free after VAG wiped the re-map will leave the customer with a nice experience of them, this will usually lead them into recommending the company to others. It can be very shortsighted to charge them again and potentially lose further custom. How many of us are willing to pay a bit extra for good customer service? (providing the product is equally as good)

  16. Hi all Fitting a module like this will result in the start stop button remembering what state it was in when the ignition was switched off. It doesn't kill the start stop system completely, just remembers what state you prefer the button in. A "plus" version is required for Yeti. It connects via 3 wires to the wiring of the start stop button. Purple/White (car side) = Signal Yellow/Black (car side) = IGN+ Brown (car side) = Ground Fitted and works as described.

  18. Had my new FL VRS 230 for about a month now and averaging 35.1MPG over around a 1000 miles. Did a drive yesterday for work on a mixture of A roads, town and motorway and got 43.7MPG! Granted that was slow cruising, and good luck with traffic, but nice to know the TSI can get some good mileage if the conditions are right. My last car was a VRS TDI, so missing the MPG I used to get from that, but the TSI is just a different beast

  20. I did try and take it off, after I got it stuck but that allen bolt was way too tight. Also I couldn't get the box back out or manoeuvre it after it got stuck on that dowel and between the subframe. Tight fit on these 1.9 tdis.

  21. Hi All. Just joined the forum after picking up my new (to me) Superb Estate over the weekend. It's a 65 plate 190 DSG with 18k on the clock. Still getting used to the way it drives as this is my first auto. Loving the car so far although the throttle response is strange - something I see other members have discovered. I think I'll be investigating the Audi mod at some point. cheers P

  23. This is completely false. Whilst they might be able to see a log of previous diagnostic access there is no reason why the VAG tool would wipe fault codes automatically. Ask them to put it in writing & Im sure they will back track on what they said.

  24. With so much doom and gloom someone needs to be positive. On the cyclist and driver education I do think this should be done and the sooner the better. For the cyclist it could be a case of anyone going to buy a new bike should be able to provide a certificate in their name. No certificate, no bike. It won't cover everyone but it's a start.

  27. Bad and even worst news. The death toll is expected to go below 80 now and not in the 150+ region some on here had said with the D notice conspiracy and Lily Allen as a mouthpiece. Still bad news but not as bad as it could have been The worst news is that the police have 8 fraud cases and 4 thefts from the flats after the fire. Some people are just so low and hopefully will be punished to the fullest along with anyone found responsible from the inquest. http://metro.co.uk/2017/09/19/eight-people-who-lied-to-claim-money-after-grenfell-tower-are-facing-fraud-charges-6938947/ Hopefully those displaced will soon all be rehoused without too much disruption and the money raised on their behalf finds it way to them.

  28. @camelspyyder @P6bJOHN - Even that's nothing on the "Old Days"; there are recorded instances of Tazio Nuvolari being plastered into a riding position so that he could run in GPs back in the 1930s.

  30. I had the Audi throttle mod done on mine (280 Hatch) at the National Meeting at RAF Cosford by Gizmo and have to say that for me it has changed the feel enough for me not to warrant the purchase of a throttle response box, that may change as i get more used to it as time goes on; however for the moment it feels fine.

  31. VCDS is probably the most supported and easiest to use. VCP is harder to use but also allows flashing firmware files and has many extra functions. ODIS is dealer level, much harder to use and no support unless you pay VAG. I use VCDS the most and it's probably the best starting point.

  32. Mine are very much the same OP, I think it's just the quality of the leather for the wear/creasing there and poor quality cloth/stitching for the centre bit. My BMW had Black Dakota Leather (hardly BMWs finest) but even at 90k the wear was pretty good. My leather (pleather?) in the VRS is starting to show wear signs at 30k.

  34. Agree with this basically like a cycling proficiency test I did whilst at school but with additional emphasis on road safety. I would also like all car drivers to have done the same too and then maybe we get a bit of mutual respect going instead of cars versus cyclist way things are going at the moment. A bike register in conjunction with a cycling certificate would be good, any non-registered or bikes not registered to the rider and the bikes would be confiscated which should help reduce bike thefts too.

  35. Donald Trump Jr & Kellyann Cowan have given up their Secret Service Security protection, so that is nice, now instead of those escorting them overtly it will just be the Covert team having to track their every move, so no change there then. Then there will be still The Donalds private covert team tracking his favourite son as usual as well as his official personal protection.

  39. Tootle is a web service where dealers bid for your car. I shouldn't think they would trust you to settle the finance, but should be able to do that for you. Isn't it worth just contacting your dealer and asking how much they will give you for the current car "as is" and if too low then asking how much difference the repair will make? Thinking about it I would have thought the financial hit on part-exing a one year old car on a PCP may be massive and will potentially make the scratch impact on value pale into insignificance. I don't know all the details of course and I wish you the best of luck with it all.

  40. Simple. Cyclists(Cyclepests) have to undergo similar training to CBT for bikes, and display this on rear of bike+ carrying a certificate on person( in case they are riding a non certificated cycle). Any non conforming get stopped and asked to produce certificate. Non certificate and cycle gets impounded. Any infringement of traffic laws ,and cycle gets impounded.

  44. The odd thing is it won't lag every time, just every now and then. It's as though the box is not expecting you to accelerate and is holding the next higher gear so when you do accelerate it has to discard the higher gear and engage a lower one instead. If this is what happens I'm amazed that it does it so quickly, although it does seem to be a long time when you are wanting to accelerate!

  45. I haven't been able to get the Audi mod done yet. I content myself with selecting 'sport' when I think I will need to be a bit quicker or to have a bit of extra urge. It certainly seems to help the car pick up its skirts and run.

  46. Ok so, I've had a 05 plate 140pd TDI Mk2, a 1.4 tsi DSG Mk3 & now a vRS245 Mk3 fl. If you're coming from a Mk2 to a vRS245 Its a no brainer, the difference is so extreme, if it was just from a Mk3 to a Mk3 fl, you've gotta look hard to find a smoother, more finished product. The seats are awesome, the screen is great, with the sat nav being so much better than the O3's. Love the punch of the 245's engine but, its quite refined, possible requirement of a tuning box, depends on how much edginess you like. DCC works great for my family, comfort setting for them time refines the cars to almost limo feel, other settings can be used when feeling enthusiastical Like the looks a lot, the wheels are huge & look even bigger although, mine will be down graded to 18's as I have them & the 65% increase in the cost of 18 to 19" tyres ain't gonna work for me. The 19's really do crash loud & hard when you hit a pot hole, I mean bad enough to make you stop, get out & look at tyre. The seats are something else, comfortable, electric, heated & Alcantra means you don't slide around but, electric adjusted 4 way lumbar support actually means you get out feeling good after 3 or 4 hours behind the wheel I like the 245 a lot, I'm not naive enough to believe I'm gonna get much more than 25mpg avg but, I'm kool with that. I think its gonna be very hard to replace this one at the end of the PCP but, I won't be buying it at the end of the term as I'm gonna "DRIVE IT LIKE I JUST STOLE IT" for the entire 3-1/2 year term

  47. I was up in the loft sorting something last weekend and found my old Lego bag. I couldn't resist bringing it down and emptying it out on the carpet like I did all those years ago. I had a few of the old Technic kits 35 years ago or so, I couldn't find the instruction booklets, but I'm sure they are up there somewhere. Anyway I was able to download the instructions for the tractor kit 8859. I think that was the last kit that I was given as a present, I was a lucky lad! I did a bit last weekend and finished the tractor off tonight.

  48. I have read up on the remap vs tuning box debate for Gen3 TSI engines, and both have their pro's and cons. Remaps can fine-tune all engine management parameters (fuel, ignition, boost maps & more). Programmed correctly they can extract huge performance gains whilst operating within safety margins. APR, Revo and others advertise around 320bhp / 370lb/ft from a base stage 1 map. These are largely achieved by running a sustained 23-25 PSI boost map, up 8-10 PSI from stock. Remaps can trigger the TD1 flag which makes them detectable to dealers. Tuning boxes access and modify fewer parameters, so must work within wider safety margins and rely upon the engines built-in protection mechanisms. Typically these boxes will run 19-20 PSI max boost, up 4-5 PSI from stock. Most seem good for 285bhp / 330lb/ft. This is about 10% down on a good remap, but you can install, tweak & remove it yourself. There also remains a sizeable resale value should you decide to part company with it or sell the car, plus use is untraceable once removed. Reliability Checking the Golf forums reveals the most common failure for GTI 7 (Gen3 TSI) engines to be turbo failure. Turbos can fail on stock cars, but tuning seems to significantly increase the risk. APR tunes seem most affected, but this is probably because they are the most widely used (and perhaps use the highest boost maps). It is very difficult to find cases of Gen3 tuning-box failures, even though their use is widespread. I attribute this to them running lower boost, and thus not stressing the weakest component as much. Too high boost held for extended periods is what accelerates turbo death. Personally, I would choose a high quality box (DTUK or JB1) over a high-power remap for current TSI engines. A great alternative could be a low-boost remap, which provides similar or just a smidgen more power than a tuning box. Order of Power / boost for TSI engines - low to high Tuning box (Shark/DTUK/JB1) APR Low Torque Map Revo APR Map (highest reported turbo failures)
